It Ends With Us – Prologue

“She’d never wanted to marry after she’d seen her father leave her Ma, blaming her for not being able to continue the lineage of his family. He hadn’t remarried, but their marriage was broken and bitter – something she was sure was destined for her too. Because her mother was so much wiser and if she couldn’t sustain a marriage, how could she sustain one?”

She leaned against the bedpost, wondering about the way his family had brought the proposal for their marriage. Life was weird and destined. She’d never thought she would have to decide for a marriage, especially with Vansh Raisinghania. They hadn’t been on good terms when they’d first met – back when she’d just begun working, and she’d almost been grateful when the project had ended.

Rather, she’d been very upset when the two of them had met again – three years after – for a project with their international clients across the country. When the timeline of the project had neared, they had been on mutual terms, but she’d never expected him to express a wish of marrying her.

Vansh: I’m not going to force my decision on you, Riddhima. But just listen to me for once. I know we haven’t been on the best of terms, but I will berate myself everyday if I lose the girl I like for my past self – a person I no longer am.

Riddhima: Why do you want to marry me, Vansh? With all that which has existed between us in the past, I don’t think we’d ever be on good terms – A marriage is out of question.

Vansh: I admire who you are, Riddhima. I know I’ve been an idiot in the past, but things have changed ever since. I can’t promise you the sky and the stars and neither would I because I want to be with you for a lifetime. My Dadi had once said to me that you like because and you love despite. (exhaling harshly) I may not love you yet, but I like you despite. And that is exactly why I want to marry you.

Riddhima: How do I believe you? How do I know you haven’t used these exact words to woo some other girl too?

Vansh: I know it’s difficult for you, but I don’t have anything besides my words and my honesty to prove myself to you.

The door cracked open minutes later and Riddhima’s younger sister walked inside with a tray in hand. Vansh paused momentarily and smiled at her. As she served the tea to Riddhima, the cup slipped from her hand, but Vansh forwarded his hand, letting the tea fall on his hand. She looked at him blankly, clueless as to why he burnt his hand for her.

Raima: I’m so sorry. I’ll… I’ll just get some ice-cubes from the kitchen.

Vansh: No, I’m fine. (shaking his hand) It’s just… I’ll be fine, don’t worry.

However, Riddhima continued staring at him – slowly, beginning to see under his skin. How many people in life burnt themselves in order to save others? She knew, it was just a cup of tea that had slipped, but in the precision of that moment, he hadn’t had time to think. His action was instantaneous and maybe that was why, several hours later, just before he was going to leave, she agreed to marry him.

Hi guys! So, I contemplated writing this story several times for several days. First, because I’m already running on a time crunch and second, because I do not know how a story of this kind would be perceived here. Yet, I took the chance to write it because I’ve always loved writing simpler, emotional stories better. This one, in particular, would be majorly about how love in a marriage can help someone get over their insecurities and fears, but like I said, I’m not sure of the audience.

Also, this story would only be about RiAnsh with them settling in a different city post-marriage. This is mostly meant to be finished by the end of February since it is a story majorly based on love and romance. Although, before I begin or write any further, I’d like to know your opinions on whether you’d want to read it or no. As always, thank you for reading!
