Since a while now there has been a controversy which has wrapped singing reality show Indian Idol in it’s wrap. What goes behind the curtain is a suspense which will never reveal and people keep assuming as per their opinions. There have been many who have supported the show and many who have spoken against.
Ace Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu has been around for a really long time and continues to be celebrated for his vocals. In a recent interview, he got talking about reality shows, the music industry, and a lot more from his understanding. While he feels that shows like Indian Idol do offer a great platform, he also mentioned that musicians must be responsible to offer work to the contestants who deserve the same.
While talking to Hindustan Times, he spoke about how the industry has changed over the years and while talking about the role of shows like Indian Idol in nurturing talent, he said, ”Jitna gossip hoga, utna TRP badhega, samjha karo. Badi baat nahi hai (The more the gossip, the better will be the TRP. Please understand. It is no big deal).”
He added, ”Not just Indian Idol, every show brings such talent to a public platform. Maybe they do not get a chance in the industry, they may get a chance to get some work and money. It is the responsibility of producers, music directors to offer work to them. Many singers are there, they are talented but someone needs to give them work. These shows work to bring the talent to the limelight, and industry people need to offer them work.”
Ask him what are the troubles that singers face and he says that politics is everywhere, even in their industry, however, he never indulged in it and kept to his own work, trying his best to ensure that whatever work he gets, he does his best. As for how are singers treated and whether that has changed, the singer said that he has always been treated with respect, however, things around him have changed and the respect for singers has gone down. Having said that, he added that people behave badly with them and how the same song is being sung by many singers and one of them are then chosen, which he feels is a disrespect to singers.
