Shattered Dreams
♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦
Please do not break your heart over the withering of a dream you once held, that never became yours!
After all, the shattered dream could have very well been a nightmare and not a dream at all, you wouldn’t really know because you didn’t have it yet!
Let the sparks fade, let the flame dim and die, you’ll never know it wasn’t poison.

Vansh’s POV
Golden rays of the morntide come as invitations to the day. Through the frame of the window comes the vibrant glow of a new day. I rubbed my bleary eyes and walked towards the window.
I reached out toward the curtain and drew it aside in one strong motion. The light flooded in followed by fresh air, bathing me in its warm golds, revealing the colours it had brought to the world beyond my window pane.
There was a pearly glow in the sky. The dawn chorus of melodic birdsong drifted in. The sound of chirping birds brings a calmness to mind, a soothing melody, a natural lullaby.
Since the time I landed in India, I wake up everyday and witness this beautiful morning in front of me. This scene is just enough to bring a smile on my face.
There can be nothing more pleasant to the senses than the sunrise. Witnessing the beautiful sunrise, I headed towards the bathroom and came out wearing a black t-shirt paired with black cargo pants.
Descending the stairs, I made my way towards the dining area where mom and dad were already seated having their morning tea and Ahaan was busy scrolling his phone.
Wishing them a cheerful good morning, I took my seat beside Ahaan. Minutes later Ishani and Sia joined us and we all started having our breakfast.
.
.
Sitting in the living room, I and Ahaan were talking about random stuffs when I heard the horn of car.
Who can it be?
Dad went to office along with Angre and they would not return home before noon. Sia and mom went to hospital for Sia’s check up and Ishani had gone for shopping few minutes ago.
I asked Mrs. D’souza to open the door. I could hear the clicking sound of heels.
Glancing at the entrance, I saw Ishani making her way inside the house along with Ahaana. She went few minutes ago then how come her shopping finished so soon. Usually she takes 3-4 hours for that.
Ahaana. Oh no!
“Hey Vansh!”said Ahaana waving her hand. Thank god she didn’t ask for a handshake.
“Hi” I gave her a tight smile.
“What happened Ishani? All fine?” I asked Ishani completely ignoring Ahaan’a presence.
“Yes bhai, all fine. Actually I got an important work to do so cancelled the plan of shopping” saying this Ishani marched towards her room. Now why is this Ahaana not going with her.
Well, I think I must head towards a safer place.
“How are you Vansh?” she asked as I was about to stand up.
“I’m fine, thank you” I gave her a polite response.
“Ahaana, can you please help me out with these files” came Ishani’s voice as she entered the room with some files in her hand.
“Yes. Why not?” said Ahaana.
This is the best opportunity to flee away.
I stood up and was about to go when Ahaana held my hand and spoke,
“It’s been so long since we talked with each other. What about a coffee at CCD?”
“Thank you, but I’m a busy person you see. I’m not interested in any coffee at CCD. Between I already know you” I said withdrawing my hands from her hold as I made my way towards my room.
.
.
“Ahaan.” I called his name out loud.
Now where the hell is this boy, always leaves me alone whenever needed.
Few minutes ago, Mr. Sinha, the head coach called me and informed that there were some matches coming up and our team need to be well-prepared for them. And from that time I’m finding this boy so that we could do some practice, but he is nowhere to be found.
“Ahaan” I called him again as I came across the living room.
“Did you call me?” Ahaana asked appearing out of nowhere. Now when did I call her.
Oh! Ahaan and Ahaana. This boy needs to change his name.
“No I called my brother, A h a a n” I said stressing each letter of Ahaan’s name.
There he comes with a football in his hand. I went towards him.
“You need to change your name man” I told Ahaan as I took the football from his hand and made my way towards the garden.
“Ok then let me think of a new name. What about Rajat or Kunal….” he continued to take various names and I could not help myself from smiling at his talks.
Heading towards the garden, I could see the green grass dancing here and there due to the breeze. Though the grass looks normal, one step forward reveals the clear water it holds.
The day had been beautiful and the sky was like a dome of plasma-blue after the rain. The clouds looked like airy anvils drifting under the gleaming disc of sun. Cool breeze fills the surrounding with the smell of petrichor.
Playing football is such pleasant weather will not only calm my mind but it will make me feel energetic.
Keeping the football on ground, I started to dribble it here and there in order to defense it from Ahaan.
After minutes of dribbling the ball, I was about to kick the football but the very next moment my feet slipped and in no time I saw myself on the ground.
As I fell down, a sudden pain shot across my left leg. I tried to get up but my left leg wasn’t supporting my body.
Ahaan came rushing towards me and supported me. My leg was paining very badly. I felt my lower leg getting swollen.
“I need to see a doctor” I said closing my eyes trying to distract myself from seeing my leg.
Ahaan immediately rushed me towards the car and started driving. I could hear him talking with someone over the phone but could not pay attention to his words due to the sharp stabbing pain in my leg.
With each passing second, the pain was getting more intense.
After about 15 minutes, we reached the hospital and I was immediately rushed towards the orthopedic section of hospital.
Looking me under immense pain, the doctor gave me an injection and the pain gradually reduced.
I saw my mom and dad entering my ward with concern on their face.
After examining my leg properly, the doctor went towards dad and spoke something which was inaudible to me. I could see dad’s expression changing and mom’s eyes sparkling with tears but she was holding it back.
The doctor then came towards me.
“What happened doctor?” I asked noticing the change in his expressions.
“Mr. Vansh, you have broken your tibia” said the doctor with seriousness in his voice.
I could feel my heart pounding like a drum in my chest. To say I wasn’t scared, would be a big lie.
“Tibia-fibula fractures are usually a result of a fall or hard blow to the leg that puts too much force on the bone.
While you were playing football, you fell down due to which there was a sudden twist of the leg, as a result of which the tibia of your left leg got fractured” he further added.
“How much time would it take to heal?” I asked the doctor scared.
“You need to undergo a surgery in which an intramedullary nail is used fix the broken tibia. And once the surgery is done, no walking on the foot is permitted until 6 weeks after that.”
“And play. After how much time can I start playing football” I asked almost choking on my words.
“I’m sorry to say but I guess you need to quit football” he said and I felt my heart
After shaking my head side to side, I looked toward my doctor once more.
“What?” I asked again unsure of the words the doctor spoke.
“Yes Mr. Vansh, you need to quit football” said the doctor leaving behind a trail of broken dreams.
A lone tear escaped my eyes followed by many more.
‘You need to quit football.’ These words kept ringing in my ears as tears spilt over and flowed down my face like a river escaping a dam.
I feel like a bird with broken wings.
My dreams are all shattered.
I felt splintered.
I felt dejected.
I felt broken.

Author’s POV
Dreams are like glass, they often get shattered.
But this doesn’t means that you should loose hope. Instead you must pick one of that broken piece and dream a new dream with it.
Everything in our life happens for a reason. Sometimes those reasons leave us broken, sometimes as fresh as a daisy. Sometimes we don’t like certain things that happen in our life, sometimes we are happy with it.
Some good things fall apart so better things can come together.
The same is going to happen with Vansh.
His life took a wrong turn to get him to a right place.
The place which he deserved.
The place where he belonged to.
The place which was waiting for him.
The place which would change his life completely.
This turning point will mark the beginning of a journey which would mend his shattered dreams.
Dance on broken glass, build castles with shattered dreams and wear your tears like precious pearls.
Proud.
Strong.
Unshakable.
