“Indian Telivsion more commonly known as ITV is an entertainment hub in Asia. It mainly showcases the life of the female lead in her Sasural(In-law’s house) and their struggle in their martial life.” – me, Samaila and many more
The need to change their techniques to make hit shows and movies.-also me and many more
“1 thing that has been in common is that the heroine is someone who is traditional, sanskari and a sati-savitri woman who has high moral values and most of the time is on the Villain’s hit-list. Along with that, the male lead has to be Rich, powerful, strong and a person who has some pain from the past. I wouldn’t say that the couples don’t have chemistry but most of the time it’s seen that they have trust issues between them……And this concept has been perfectly seen it Ekta Kapoor’s Kumkum Bhagya and Naagin series. This concept has been to many more shows such as Sony Sab fames Aladdin-Naam Toh Suna Hoga, Colors’s Current show Udaariyan, Zee’s Meet, Sony TV’s Ishq Par Zor Nahin, and Starplus’s hit Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and etc. All of these shows start with an amazing plot and storyline but somehow it ends up like every Hindi Serial.”
1.They have to stop telling medieval lifestyle as contemporary
2. They should tell success stories
3. They should stop insulting basic family values
4. They should stop to portray mother as God
5. The most missing point is lack of legitimete justice based on current modern rules of laws
6. All love stories are a version of (but not of them are modern) Sita-Ram epics. This is another basic stupidity
7. The stupidy of males leads to a generalization such that males of India are uni-cell brained who do not have the ability to think even at the most primitive level
8. Females of India are shameless ,offensive and disgusting and killers. Thier life goal is to get married. They do it at any cost
9. Stories reflecting real life giving hopes for future is needed”- STRYwrt(What ‘works’ for Indian Telivision and why it needs to change)
Re-read the last paragraph STRYwrt. Think, in terms of responsibility. It’s a ‘which came first, the chicken or the egg?’ type of question. Rather than the viewers needing to change their tastes (they already are SHOUTING their preferences!…the information is already out there!!)… perhaps it is the people who have the money to actually make the changes require being held responsible. They have the power and the money to make the changes. This is the media after all. They are the ones in charge currently…not the viewers. This writer has done a very good job …and I am sure the writer is truly eager to learn and understand and is positively motivated. I have read comments from the writer and the writer appears to be sensible and kind hearted. So… like any feel good article which allows the viewer/reader FEEL like they are being heard… they walk away beleiving that they matter, they are being heard… change will come. All false. This writer is being trained to work for the current system to remain in place, likely without their own understanding. -Akituster
what we audience(mainly teenagers and Gen-Z people) want is that the female lead starts becoming independent, strong, and Brave enough such that they will not stop trying to prove that they are not weak and to put themselves infront of everyone else. However, a few writers and producers have tried to present us nice and refreshing stories such as “Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai”, “Dreamgirl”, “Kulfi Kumar Bajewala”, “Jijaji chhat per hai/Jijaji chhat par koii hai”, “Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai” and “Naati Pinky ki lambi love story” but, these shows unfortunately Didn’t last long. I know that like me many more are sick and tired of this repeating storyline, so I am giving you all some suggestions.

Hey… I just came across this post by chance and I wanna say I agree with you… But ITV like everything else is a business and they produce what seems to be the demand. Like u said there have been some very different stories on ITV like Un Dinon ki baat hai (haven’t watched it… But heard it is good), Dahleez, Beyhadh, Manmarziyan and some others that I can’t remember. Dahleez was a beautiful show with a very different backdrop and yet a simple love story at its heart. It ran for a period of just a few months. Manmarziyan started off strong showing a young woman who wants to have new experiences in life and showed a good bond between two girls but in a few months the show lost its essence and went the ITV way with one friend marrying the other’s seemingly evil fiancee to protect her friend and the women fighting. It didn’t go on for long even then. The same can be said for so many other shows. Most of the shoes with different content fail miserably in the trp race even when they are popular online. The leading channel shows when they see trp going down tweak the story to the well tested formula u talked about. A vamp… A great heroine and a man who seems to trust all the wrong people. Thanks to this I have completely stopped watching ITV.
So why do these shows that we are tired and are the subject of memes most of the time getting such trps? That is a question only the audience can answer. Naagin, Sasural Sinar ka saathiya were all high on the trp chart most of their run… So some part of the audience most love them and this part is the one which seems to determine trp. Unless these viewers change their choices I don’t think we can expect anything different. Another thing is the length of our shows. They explore the arc they were meant to in a few months and then either drag or go the ITV way to keep running.
You’re right, and same as you I have quit watching Hindi shows due to which I have started watching k-dramas and Pakistani dramas which have presentable content.
P.S I suggest you to watch True Beauty(Korean)
I watch Pak dramas and Turkish drama from time to time. Diyar-e-dil, Yeh Dil Mera, Yaqeen ka safar, Aunn Zara, Chupke chupke and suno chanda are my favs. I love that the number of episodes are limited and stay true to the plot most of the times
I came across this article by accident, but this is a great article, it addresses all of my thoughts and ideas on itv. Even though I’m relatively new to itv, I’ve realized most of the shows I’ve watched so far have the same pattern. I would like to see the changes you’ve discussed here happened, but I think viewers are split into two: some like things the way they are and others want a change.
I’m happy to see that I could help you
This is absolutely right, this reflects my thoughts
Now its time to change 🙂🙌
Even BARRISTER BABU had good storyline , atleast they didn’t show female lead as a weak girl ,she achieved her dreams and after that she got married
Barrister Babu did have a good storyline but the last few episodes just took a turn.
Yaa agree, look alike track was not nice😑
This article says 💯 truth. Many people want changes but still there are majority of people who are grasped into typical ITV content and that’s why KKB’s concept is still running. Even the most sensible show of ITV, Kuch rang pyar ke aise bhi did not have a great comeback thru it’s 3rd season. It was spoilt and made as a typical ITV show where villain troubles heroine to marry the hero. It was so sick and because of the same that season was wrapped off soon. And this is the same story of many sensible shows. Shaadi Mubarak was a great start but it totally got out of track. Both production houses and the audience’s mindset should have a change.
Yesssss
I so agree with the arguments made in the article. The shows on ITV start with a very promising prelude (atleast a few of them do) but then somewhere along the way they just miss the bus. The shows which do appeal to us young audience just run for a short period of time due to low TRPs and this is where the main evil lay, I would say. 👿👿
We are however getting blindsided to a very important fact here- We are not the only ones who watch TV. A major chunk of audience also includes the older generation or people who do not share the same impressions of the world as us or people who do not find it easy to use new technologies as us etc etc. Though we have switched to OTT, some of the audience do not even know about it and some find it easy to switch on a TV at the right time for a particular show than scrolling through an OTT platform even if they do not like content here (ITV) and some do not have any problem with the content put out.
So as @Xxxxx pointed out in the end of the day ITV is also a business, you can’t run a show that does not fetch you good TRPs just because it appeals to a segment of the audience- who by the way has already given up on ITV and switched to other platforms 🤷♀️🤷♀️ (Me being a part of this squad too🙈🙈) .
All I can say is it would be nice having shows which we could connect with too or maybe once in a blue moon come up with finite series which could actually talk about something other than just romance and saas-bahu prblms. But you can’t keep everyone happy so maybe one day…. *HOPE*
I agree with you
