For the last few days, Ekta Kapoor has been promoting her upcoming reality show Lock Upp which features Kangana Ranaut. The show is expected to be based on celebs who will be locked up under the supervision of Kangana. While details about the show have largely been kept under wraps, there’ll be 16 contestants who will be locked up in jail.
The trailer and the posters of the show are creating a lot of buzz but some are also comparing it with Bigg Boss. At a press conference in Delhi, Ekta was asked the same question but she begged to differ. When ETimes TV asked her about comparisons with Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss, Ekta said, “All captive realities all over the world get compared with each other and this is a captive reality. It’s like saying did you ever get scared because one soap opera got compared with the other. There’ll be 10 shows, we will see them as same stories. But they have all worked on their own differences.”
She further added, “There is going to be constant comparison. People will say stuff. But captive reality and original captive reality will also have its differences. Aap dekhiye kitna alag hoga.”
Karan Bedi, CEO of MX Player, also talked about the show and shared, “It’s a pretty unique concept. As Ekta pointed out, captive realities are not new. There’s been a lot of psychological research on capturing captive in a house vs being captive with a clear power dynamic. Some of the power dynamics will show up. This is the show where users can actually be a part of the experience.”
Lock Upp is all set to premiere on February 27.
