Part 7: Why Not
Hello my friendsss!
In this part the girls are preparing for their sleepover! Something unexpected happens, hope you like it and we hope you had a great weekend!

As I continued walking to class, I kept thinking about how Aadhi was going to the school sleepover too. I didn’t know what to do. Should I just go and deal with the awkwardness between us? Or should I not go and watch Lakshi enjoy an experience I didn’t get. I sat down at my desk still thinking about it. Aadhi walked in, and he acted like he didn’t even know me, so I continued to do the same. We were very silent, and I definitely got a lot more work done than I usually did when I talked to Aadhi. The silence wasn’t awkward though… it felt like it was something we both needed. After a long, quiet and peaceful class, I walked alone to my other classes and the day progressed very slowly.

At home the family was sitting at the dining table and we were all feuding over a very important matter. “Why can’t we go to the sleepover?!”, my sister yelled. She was very frustrated. “Come on Niru, you always say yes. What’s wrong with you this time?” Niru shook his head. “It could be dangerous”, he said. “Dangerous?! Really?! It’s a sleepover! And it’s not like a party where people get drunk, it’s at school, the most civil place where a student should be!”, Lakshi said. “Abi, why don’t you help me convince him?”, Lakshi asked expectantly. “Because Abi understands how dangerous a sleepover like that can be”, Niru said assuringly. That’s when I thought about it. I didn’t want to miss out on the fascinating experiences ahead just because of a loser. I wasn’t going to let Aadhi ruin the opportunities that came out for me. I wasn’t going to let myself miss out on the fun times just like I did at our old school. “Niru, I think you should let us go”, I said. Niru looked dismayed, because I was usually on his side. On the other hand, a huge smile sprouted across Lakshi’s face. “Ha!”, she said cheerfully. “Even Abi says so, come on Niru!”, Lakshi pleaded. Niru looked at me. “Abi, how could you agree to this?”, he asked in a disappointed tone. “I think we should take the opportunities that come to us Niru, I want things to change, not be the same as last year.”, I said to him. Then he started to think. “Are the girls separated from the boys?”, Niru asked. Lakshi and I looked at each other. Lakshi rolled her eyes. “You gotta be kidding me! Another stupid question?! I thought you said you were going to stop asking stupid questions!”, Lakshi said. “How is that a stupid question?”, Niru asked. “You think we would be asking you to go if we weren’t separated from the boys?”, I asked him. “Good point”, he said. “Can I come to the sleepover?”, Krish asked innocently. “The sleepover isn’t for short, fat cry babies.”, Lakshi said. Krish sat down in the chair beside Niru. “She called me fat!”, Krish complained to Niru. “Lakshi…”, Niru said. “Hey, you taught me not to lie.”, Lakshi said to Niru with a huge smirk on her face. That was typical Lakshi, always had an answer to everything. “Just let the girls go and enjoy themselves. We didn’t have sleepovers at school back in the days, they’re lucky they do”, grandma said to Niru. Our grandma was very affectionate and charitable. She always helped us convince Niru to let us enjoy our lives. “Fine”, Niru finally agreed. “YAYYYYYYY!”, my sister yelled excitedy. She quickly hugged Niru, grandma, glared at me and Krish and ran upstairs to pack her bag. I looked at grandma and Niru and smiled. “Thank you”, I said, and they both smiled at me. I hugged them both and then Niru said, “I trust you, watch over her and yourself too.”, I nodded. “Can I help you pack at least?”, Krish said. I felt bad for him because he had to wait at least five more years until his sleepover. I usually would’ve said no to him, but this time, I had to say yes. I nodded at him, and then he held my hand. I turned around and grandma was smiling at me. All she wanted was for her family to be happy, and clearly we were. Krish and I walked upstairs and Krish was talking on and on about his day at school.

It was finally Friday and the sleepover was tonight. Ashwin told Lakshi to come to school early because he needed help setting up for the sleepover, since apparently he was part of student council. I haven’t got the chance to meet Ashwin yet, and Lakshi hasn’t meeted Aadhi yet. There’s no need for her to meet Aadhi, she would murder him if I told her how he ditched me. I really wanted to meet Ashwin though because if he convinced my sister to get to school early, he must’ve done something amazing. I asked my sister this morning, “Are you actually going to school early for the partner you always complain about?”, I asked her curiously. “I owe him… like big time”, she said rolling her eyes, and then she walked away. I didn’t really get what she meant by that. We got to school and I went up to my locker. I asked Lakshi if I could meet Ashwin, but she said no because she didn’t want him to know that she had a twin.I frowned at her. I quickly got my books and since we got there early, I decided I should go down to the library, which was on the first floor. When I got downstairs, I saw my new friends Maya and Sayohn. Maya was new this year too, so I met her at this presentation we liked to call, the newbie’s presentation. That’s where Lakshi, Maya and I became very good friends. “Hey!”, I said to her. “Hey Abi!”, she said. She seemed very happy to see me. Beside her was her partner Sayohn. I met him when I met Maya, and he is one of Aadhi’s friends too, so we became friends and went with the flow. “Hey Sayohn”, I said and he replied with a “hey” too. “Abi, are you going to the sleepover today?”, Sayohn asked. “Yeah I am”, I replied. “Is Aadhi coming?”, he asked. “How was I supposed to know?”, I thought. “Uhh… I don’t know… we haven’t talked lately.” I said. “What? He’s your partner.”, Maya said. “Ya… long story…”, I replied. Maya knowing me well, then changed the topic to make me feel less uncomfortable. “Well we’re going too! We should hang altogether!”, she said enthusiastically. “Yeah, for sure!”, I said smiling at her. “Okay, come by six p.m!”, she said. “Okay”, I replied, I was walking backwards saying goodbye until someone spilled juice on my white lace top. I looked at my shirt and I was shocked. I looked at Maya and Sayohn. Maya had her hands over her face and Sayohn looked shocked too. “Are you blind?!”, I yelled as I turned around. It was Aadhi. “Are you kidding me?!”, I thought, I was surprised to see his face. He probably did it on purpose. My face started to heat up, I was extremely angry. Aadhi felt bad for me at the beginning and tried to say sorry. “S…. s…”, I looked at him and he was trying to hold in his laugh. Then he bursted. I was so embarrassed, I felt a lump in my throat. I wanted to laugh too… but I was so embarrassed. Maya ran to me with tissues. “Here”, she said, handing me the tissues and helping me get rid of the stains. “Shut up Aadhi, you jerk”, she said to him. I glared at him. “Thanks”, I said to Maya, and then I ran to the bathroom. Maya followed me, because she was a good friend. She must’ve been expecting to see me cry, because when she came in and saw me laughing my head off, she was shocked. “Oh my god, that was hilarious! My face would have been priceless!” I said, still laughing. She looked at me, then she sat beside me. “You’re pretty amazing, to look at that in a good way”, she said to me as she smiled. I smiled back at her and said, “Thanks for being there for me”. “Anything for you bestie”, she said. When she said that, I felt comfortable. I finally made a friend, a bestie actually. A friend who I can trust, and that’s all I really wanted. “He couldn’t even say sorry.”, she said. “Aadhi and I are kind of in a mess right now… so I should probably keep expecting surprises like this.” I continued laughing, and this time, she joined me.
****************************************************************************************************************************
At the end of the day Lakshi and I went home. I had to go home and make sure I packed night sacks, my teddy bear, my pyjamas, my slippers, and my toothbrush. Maya even said she will bring a tent for the three of us, so it should be fun… at least I was hoping it would be. As Niru drove us home, I told him and Lakshi about the juice disaster, but I didn’t reveal who did it. I was very embarrassed, but I couldn’t stop laughing, and they couldn’t stop laughing either.
