Nikki Sharma became a household name with her stint in the show Sasural Simar Ka with her character as Roshni Bharadwaj. The show wrapped up in 2018, and was last seen as the protagonist in Brahmarakshas 2: Phir Jaag Utha Shaitan. The actress is now all set to make her way back to TV with Sonali and Amir Jaffar’s next.
In an interview with Etimes, she says, “After my last show, I wanted to take up a nice project. I did try for other roles, too, but this one seemed the best. I am playing a Rajasthani girl in the show and currently taking diction classes for it. The story is based on punar janam and I believe in destiny and reincarnation. I think that’s the reason I am excited about it. Even Brahmrakshas was about punar janam and destiny. I feel drawn towards such shows, especially when they have an element of mystery. The show is expected to go on floors in 10 days.”
What further piqued her interest in the project was the similarity with the character. She shares, “I connect a lot with the character. Our journey has been quite similar in many ways. I, too, have been raised by a single mother. Just like my character, I started working at a young age. In fact, I couldn’t complete my education because I had to support my mother, who has done a beautiful job at raising me single-handedly.”
However, the actress reveals that she was a bit apprehensive about being able to pull off the character. She shares, “I wasn’t ready to audition for the show because I wasn’t sure of getting the diction right. I told the makers that even my Hindi has an accent (laughs!). However, they were adamant and insisted that I gave the audition, which turned out fine. They told me that they would help me with the diction, as they felt that I fit the part. They have been supportive and saw something I didn’t see in myself. It was their trust in me that helped me get rid of the apprehension. I won’t deny that I still am a bit apprehensive because it is a big responsibility. There will be so many people (from Rajasthan) watching the show, so it is pressuring to think what if I don’t live up to their expectations. But I am working hard to get everything right for the character assigned to me. I have been watching Diya Aur Baati Hum and Balika Vadhu for a better understanding of my character and feel of the show.”
