CHAPTER 35 PART 2
20 MINUTES LATER, OUTSIDE A ROOM IN THE HOTEL
Sanskaar tapped his foot impatiently, waiting outside in the hallway for Swara. He knocked on the door again, For what seemed like the 100th time in the past 5 minutes.
Sanskaar (irritated) : Swara Gadodia! I have been waiting here for the past half an hour and you’re still not ready. What the hell are you doing inside? Bahar aane ka plan hai ki nahi?
Swara (exasperated) : Oye, Mr Exaggerator! It has not been half an hour. Not even 15 minutes. Tum na chup hi raho. I will come when I’m ready. Disturb mat kar. I need to think.
Sanskaar (incredulously) : You need to think? What are you, a five year old kid who doesn’t know how to wear clothes?
Swara (really exasperated) : Sanskaar! What the hell is your problem? Shut up…
Sanskaar (looking upwards with a helpless expression) : Bhagwan ji! Why are women like this? We, poor men are always waiting on them.. And they can’t even get ready soon. Why did you make them like that?

Swara (from inside) : Sanskaar! I heard that.
Sanskaar ( cocky) : So? It’s the truth. What should I do?
Swara : Mr Maheshwari! If you cannot keep quiet and wait, then you might as well go downstairs. Because I’m not going to hurry up for you. So byee… Go down. I will meet you inside the hall.
Sanskaar (heaving a sigh of relief) : At least you’re not the type of woman who wants to be waited on, hands and feet. Swara, Are you sure?
Swara : Yes baba! This is the best option, for both you and me. You don’t have to wait in vain and I don’t have to listen to your bak-bak. Ab jao!

Sanskaar (gleefully) : Best fiancee ever!
Swara (chuckling) : I know. How did you get so lucky?
Sanskaar (muttering, to himself, smiling) : How did I indeed?
Swara : Did you tell something?
Sanskaar : Nahi toh! Ok.. I’ll be downstairs. You come as soon as you’re ready. By the way, Swara? You do know that it’s formal wear right? And Mr Sharma, Our host would prefer Indian.. I forgot to tell you.. But what did you bring?
Swara : Sanskaar! I am not going to change now. I can’t help it now. Why did you not tell me earlier?
Sanskaar : So you’re wearing western?

Swara : Whatever I’m wearing is of no concern to you.. Now leave.. Boo… Go downstairs Mr Maheshwari and await my arrival. AND REMEMBER THE CHALLENGE DOESN’T START UNTIL I COME THERE.
Sanskaar (chuckling) : As you wish, Madam… I’ll be downstairs Swara. If you need anything, Tell me and I’ll come upstairs. Bye. See you soon…

10 MINUTES LATER, IN THE BANQUET HALL
Sanskaar stood near a pillar waiting for Swara. The hall was decorated magnificently, though a little too garish for his taste. He recalled Swara’s design during their engagement party and smiled. His Swara was so talented. She could do anything. As he stood smiling, staring at absolutely nothing, He felt a pat on his shoulder. He turned to see Aarav there.
Sanskaar (genuinely happy) : Aarav bhai! You here? Yaar, Why do you never tell me when you’re returning to India? What sort of a friend does that? And how is my darling sister? How is Antara?
Aarav (hugging Sanskaar) : Bhai! I wanted to surprise you. That’s why. And Antara is fine. She is still in London. She has some meetings to attend. And anyways, she can’t travel in this condition…
Sanskaar stared at him surprised.
Sanskaar : You mean….

Aarav nodded.
Sanskaar (excited) : Bhai! That’s awesome… I’m going to be a mama! So damn cool… Congratulations!
Aarav (laughing) : Thanks bhai! But I had to come. After all, It’s my best friends wedding. Speaking of which, Where is my bhabhi to be?
Sanskaar sighed frustrated.

Sanskaar : Don’t ask. Aarav! You yourself tell. Do all women have to be chronically late? Can’t they ever get ready on time? Seriously bhai… These women na….
Aarav (chuckling and interrupting) : Sanskaar! Don’t ever let Swara bhabhi hear this. You’ll be flayed alive.
Sanskaar (his eyes flashing irritatedly) : Swara? Don’t get me started on her… She is so slow. I have been waiting for so long… And yet…
Aarav (looking behind him) : She’s here.

Sanskaar : She’s NOT here. Aarav bhai! What’s wrong with you?
Aarav : No Bhai! (making Sanskaar turn around and watch the stairs) LOOK! Swara’s here.
Sanskaar turned behind and his jaw dropped.
Swara stood still at the top of the stairs, wearing a midnight blue sari with a sleeveless complimentary silver blouse. Around her neck was the pearl and diamond necklace that he had given to her on their engagement. Silver bangles and diamond earrings complimented her figure even more. She had done her hair in an elaborate side plait that accentuated her figure while making her seem elegant and virginal at the same time. A small bindi and eyes lined with kajal and mascara completed her look.
Both Aarav and Sanskaar stared at her. But while Aarav saw a slightly beautiful woman who he liked even though they had met only once, SANSKAAR SAW A DIVINE ANGEL.
Sanskaar (taking a step forward, whispering) : Gorgeous!
Aarav smiled amused to see his best friend like this. He had never seen Sanskaar so out of control and love-struck before.
Aarav : Bhai! You both match each other.

And they did. Sanskaar had worn a formal tux. But instead of the standard white shirt, He had opted for a midnight blue one instead. His hair was styled in such a way that he seemed roguish and yet suave at the same time. In all, HE WAS LOOKING LIKE A TOTAL HOTTIE…
Swara stood at the top searching for Sanskaar presumably. Finally her eyes met his and she sighed with relief. She began to walk down, their eyes never leaving each other. Time has stood still for both of them.

Swara finally descended and came and stood in front of Sanskaar, her eyes still locked with his. She winked at him.
Swara : Kyun Mr Maheshwari? How do I look?
Sanskaar (unthinkingly) : Like my angel!
Swara smiled widely and he smiled back. They had forgotten about everyone else until….Aarav coughed. They came to their senses and Swara smiled in greeting.
Swara : Aarav! Nice to meet you again.
Aarav (laughing) : Swara bhabhi! No more formalties between us. You are going to be my best friend’s wife. More so, My wife’s sister in law. That makes us family na? And also, My child’s mami. So…

Swara (excited) : Wait… Mami? Is Antara…. (At Aarav’s nod, squealing) OH MY GOD!! Congratulations. How is she? She didn’t come here… Did she?
Aarav explained about Antara while Sanskaar stood staring at Swara, completely mesmerized with her smile. He too smiled goofily. That was HIS SWARA. Swara, who got so excited for someone else’s happiness. His Swara, who became sad for someone’s pain. Yes, HE WAS A FOOL IN LOVE…
And he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Suddenly, A hand was waving in front of his eyes. He blinked, returning back to his senses to see a puzzled Swara looking at him.

Sanskaar : Kya? Aise kya dekh rahe ho?
Swara : Oh hello? Where are you lost? Kab se, I’ve been calling you… Sanskaar, Mr Maheshwari and what not… But you’ve been in your own world.
Sanskaar (turning pink slightly) : Well…. (cocky again) What can I do? It’s so boring here. MY world is so much better… (looking around) Now where did Aarav go?
Swara : To meet someone. (demanding) And what do you mean boring? I am boring now?
Sanskaar nodded. Swara scowled at him.
Swara : Toh phir, Enjoy alone. I’m going.
She turned and walked a step before Sanskaar caught her hand and twirled her in such a way that she fell on him and he caught her waist, their noses inches from each other.
Swara (looking around) : Sanskaar! Leave me… Everyone’s looking.
Sanskaar : So?

He gazed at her with an instensity that compelled her to look at him.
Sanskaar (in a slow, lazy voice) : Aise kaise? You’re mine… Now and forever… I won’t leave you so easily…
Swara smiled. That was the most romantic thing Sanskaar had ever told her. Even if he didn’t love her, He did care about her. A LOT…. She would be satisfied with that for now…
Sanskaar (interrupting her thought process) : Aur vaise, IF I let you go now, How am I going to see your face when you lose today?
He winked at her and finally set her straight on her toes. She smirked at him.
Swara : Mr Maheshwari…. Let’s see, Shall we?
Sanskaar (smirking back at her) : Ofcourse, Miss Gadodia! Come first, We will go greet our host, Mr Sharma! He is one of my biggest clients and supporters.
Swara nodded and walked to where their host was. A pleasant round man awaited their sight. He smiled jovially at Swara while Sanskaar made the necessary intorductions.
Mr Sharma : OHH! This is your fiancee, Mr Sanskaar?? How nice to finally put a face to the name… I have to inroduce you both. Please come.
Sanskaar (protesting) : Arre.. No Mr Sharma! That’s not necessary…..
Swara (getting a brainwave) : Arre, What do you mean not necessary? Aap introduce kijiye, Mr Sharma! Sanskaar is just being silly.

Mr Sharma nodded delighted while Sanskaar glared daggers at a triumphant Swara!
Mr Sharma (in the mike) : ladies and gentlemen! please everyone! please, attention everyone! (everyone turned towards them) as you all know, sharma industries has been in a partnership with the maheshwari company for five years now… and the ceo, mr sanskaar maheshwari is now one of my most cherished friends and business partner. so it gives me great pleasure to formally introduce his wife to be, his fiancee, swara gadodia!

Swara and Sanskaar stepped forward and greeted everyone. Someone pushed them forward, asking the new couple to dance. Sanskaar held a hand towards Swara, and she smiled and took it. They walked to the middle, Their usual spot. Sanskaar smiled and began twirling her around as a slow waltz began.

They ended their dance with Sanskaar lifting Swara by the waist and rotating around. He stopped and as he set Swara down, She clutched him, one hand shuffling his hair and another, around his neck. They breathed heavily as they still clinged on to each other, resting their foreheads against each other. Swara smiled slightly as she hugged him for her life’s worth!
Everyone stood spellbound at their dance and chemistry. An applause broke out finally breaking Swara and Sanskaar’s wave of passion and desire.
Sanskaar (growling slightly) : I need you now. I have to touch you, Swara! I’ll die if I can’t…
Swara : Shhh! Don’t talk like that… I need you too… Sanskaar! I need you too….
Sanskaar : Then come…
They somehow avoided their audience as much as they could and soon slipped into a deserted corridor! Sanskaar pinned Swara against the wall and kissed her fiercely. She kissed him back equally passionately and fiercely. This was not about love. nor passion. NOT DESIRE….
This was pure, unadulterated need for each other… This was Sanskaar and Swara! MR MAHESWARI AND MISS GADODIA!
Swara (whispering) : Sanskaar!

Sanskaar : Shhh… No Swara! No words….
He pressed his mouth on hers and they continued kissing. His hands entwined with hers as they forgot where they were and what they were. The only thing that mattered at that time was themselves, being with each other. Having each other.
Finally, they broke apart for air…. And stood staring at each other, eyes filled with desire.
Swara, turned sideways, a little shy at having been so wanton. She kept one hand on the wall Sanskaar came in front of her and held her hand so slightly, it felt like a caress. Swara closed her eyes, shuddering with desire. Sanskaar’s other hand touched the back of her neck. Swara straightened slightly, eyes still closed and gave a moan. A single finger came down her neck and touched her blouse dori… And came further down her bare back and further down until it touched the small of her back. He closed his eyes too… His entire hand went around her waist and he pulled her close to him, his chin on her shoulder amd her head leaning against his shoulder.
Swara (thinking) : I love you… I love you….
Sanskaar (thinking) : I love you… I love you….

Sanskaar’s phone rang breaking their haze of desire. Swara and Sanskaar came apart and smiled blushingly. Sanskaar picked up the phone and spoke to Aarav while Swara excused herself to go to the washroom.

IN THE WASHROOM
Swara, first checked that she was alone. Then looked into the mirror and squealed.
Swara : OH MY GOD!!! What the hell was that? What just happened? Did I behave like a complete wanton infront of him? Swara, What were you thinking?
She recalled their kiss and blushed crimson.
Swara : I love the man so damn much… I can’t keep this a secret much longer. I have to tell him… Yes Swara, You have to tell him… I’ll go mad otherwise…
She washed her hands and straightened her hair which was mussed due to his hands.
Swara (smiling) : Vaise, My Mr Maheshwari is a really good kisser… (blushing again) What all you are thinking Swara… Ab chal! Go fast…
She went back to the hall and looked for Sanskaar!

Sanskaar (From behind her) : Shall we start?
Swara (turning around) : Start what?
Sanskaar : Arre! Our challenge…
Swara’s mouth fell open.
Swara : You want to have this challenge after… (she blushed)
Sanskaar ( smiling reassuringly) : Don’t worry Swara! I am only yours. No girl can take me… But this was a challenge issued by you. I am honour bound to take it….. Male ego, you know?
Swara (rolling her eyes) : Fine.. Mr Maheshwari…. We will have this challenge… But remember, If I see you touching any girl, I will flay you alive…
Sanskaar (surprised to see her possessiveness, but also secretly delighted) : Ouch! Accha! I promise.. No touching.. I will make them melt with my words alone…
He grinned, very much alike the rogue he used to be. Swara smiled.
Swara : Your words may have worked before, Mr Maheshwari… But after Mr Sharma’s announcement, Everyone knows you’re spoken for. So who will dare give you their number?
Sanskaar chuckled.

Sanskaar (sounding very much the arrogant flirt he once was) : Spoken like an innocent… Swara baby! Abhi tumhe bahut kuch seekhna hai…. Just.. Wait… And…. Watch!!!
Swara : All the best, Sanskaar!
Sanskaar : All the best, Swara!
BOTH : GET READY TO LOSE…..

15 MINUTES LATER
Swara sat on a chair in the bar as she observed Sanskaar walk in and approach a girl in a blue dress, smiling coolly. Swara observed interestedly as he went up to the girl and sat down next to her. He signalled the waiter for a drink and winked at Swara…
She nodded back.. It was challenge time!
She saw Sanskaar turn to the woman and begin talking. They seemed to be having a fun chat as she kept laughing and giggling while he too acted like it was funny…
Swara’s smile faltered a bit. Sanskaar suddenly gave an exclamation as the woman was going to pay for her drink.
Swara (muttering) : You don’t have to show your chivalry now, Mr Maheshwari.. Boo… And that too, for that chudail? Hmmph…

She saw the woman gush over HER Sanskaar and thank him profusely. She handed him a napkin, and then took it back. As Swara stood disbelievingly, The woman kissed the napkin such that the lip marks were seen. She then winked at Sanskaar and handed the paper to him, who pretended to swoon.
Swara’s anger began to boil… That woman… If Swara ever managed to find her…. She would not spare her. Sanskaar gave a low whistle and Swara turned to him. He winked at her and signalled 1 in his hand. He smirked triumphantly. Swara scowled at him and signalled that he still had two more. Sanskaar shrugged nonchalantly like he didn’t care. He pointed towards a girl in the opposite corner and went there.

Swara turned towards the bar. She definitely needed a drink now.
Swara (thinking) : What the hell made you make this challenge Swara? You should have known that Sanskaar would win… Yuck… You have no brains… And you left him loose for all the lionesses. Now they will claw over him and make him their prey.
As she sat thinking, She turned to see if Sanskaar had started getting that girl’s number, but to her surprise, she saw the girl alone. She looked around for Sanskaar!
Sanskaar (appearing in front of her suddenly, triumphantly ) : Look! I got the next number as well.
Swara (in disbelief) : You did? So soon?
Sanskaar (raising an eyebrow) : Maheshwari genes, My doll! They never fail…. Now for the last one…. (spotting a girl in a black dress,so short that it didn’t cover her knees) AAAHH! That’s the last one… What a hottie…
Swara (pissed off) : Hottie? Sanskaar?

Sanskaar : Chill Swara! I’ll be right back….
Swara watched as Sanskaar began talking to that witch… They laughed and seemed to be having fun. Swara frowned. That girl too had handed over a paper to Sanskaar! Swara Gadodia had lost! So what was Sanskaar still doing there? And that girl?
Swara got up. That girl was being too touchy feely. Sanskaar hadn’t laid a finger on her, but this chudail was touching his shoulder and hitting him playfully on the chest? What daring? NO ONE DID THAT WHILE SWARA WAS THERE…
Swara (interrupting their conversation) : Hello!
Girl : Excuse me? Can’t you see the two of us are talking?

Swara (looking coldly at her) : I see everything. But what you don’t see is this ring on his finger.
She lifted Sanskaar’s hand up and showed his engagement ring. She then showed her own.
Swara : The man you are flirting with is my fiance! So I think I’m perfectly within my rights to interrupt and take my fiance from flirts like you. Good Evening to you.
She held Sanskaar’s elbow and shoved him along with her. He followed her too surprised and amused, to interrupt. They stopped near a pillar!

Sanskaar : Swara…
Swara (cutting him off) : Tear those three papers now Sanskaar!
Sanskaar (after looking at her for some time, shook his head) : I can’t do that!
Swara (shocked) : You…. can’t?
Sanskaar : I can’t. It is my proof that I won today.
Swara : Bhaad me jao challenge… I accept it…. You win… Now please tear those papers.
Sanskaar : Sorry! I can’t….
Swara stared at him with shocked and hurt eyes.
Swara : Fine… Have it your way…

She turned around to walk away when Sanskaar came and stood in front of her, holding out the three papers.
Sanskaar : Here… You can take the three papers and do whatever you want with them. But before that, Read them.
Swara (puzzled) : Read them?
Sanskaar nodded. Swara took the papers and read them.
Swara : 9564709220… 9564709220… 9564709220… (she gazed at Sanskaar with surprise) All three chits have the same number and this number…. It is…
Sanskaar (smiling) : Yes… It is yours, Swara! How could you think I would ever want another girl’s number when you are there? I acted like I was flirting with those other people, but I actually asked them to help me and write your number.
Swara stared at him delighted. She had THE BEST FIANCE EVER! She put her hands around him tightly and squeezed him and he hugged her back. He kissed her cheek once they broke free.
A song began to play in the background….

Sanskaar : One last dance before we leave? (holding out a hand to her) May I?
Swara nodded, her eyes tearing up slightly, which Sanskaar wiped and shook his head no. She was not supposed to cry…. She took his hand and they walked over to the dance floor, just holding each other and dancing….Without any elaborate or complicated steps.

They ended the dance and Swara and Sanskaar left the hall, after nodding their farewell to Aarav and their host.
Swara (walking back to the car, thinking) : I am going to confess my love within the next 3 days… I cannot wait anymore…
Sanskaar ( thinking) : I have done all this. But I should perhaps reduce this. I cannot let Swara ever fall in love with me.. It would be a disaster….
