“Arjun.. I can’t get my daughter married to you…hope you won’t let my decision to affect our relationship…Your parents are more like a family for me..! got that!!”,She gave a point blank answer…

Ah..That was what I wanted to hear….Both Mom and daughter hesitate a lot to even spell their retort..!

“Why? May I know the reason..And…I demand the reason.,to be frank!”,I said with my hands in my pockets surprising her with my attitude…!!

“Arjun…don’t you know…wh..”,My dad was about to get up..and I went to his height..crooking myself completely,with a knee pressing down to the floor,.”Dad…I need to know.. Please try to understand me…”,I said clear enough to express my stance..

“Am I not a successful person in my career…a responsible person for my family…”,I asked looking her mom…

“I din’t mean like that…You are one lovely son every mother would love to have….you are your family’s pride..Pls don’t…”,her mom said what I exactly wanted…

“Then what…Is Religion a problem? Just because am a Christian you neglect this lovely son for your daughter?”,I asked to her face….My heart thudded fast anticipating her reply…that’s where I would get the next lead to take my proposal further….I know..It would be yes…If so..I have a living example..My parents..!! Aren’t they happy…Am not like my dad..! So..the separation my parents had can be ruled out…if not also..I should make her to understand… “Aunty…Please reply..”,I repeated after a minute…

The silence from my parents side was much enough to convey that,they have no qualms with this proposal….It’s only her mom now!! I vaguely remember once Sam saying about some of her relatives too…!

“Arjun…Are you sure..My daughter is in love with you….I don’t think so”,her mom replied soft…

That’s one excellent reply to divert me from my purpose…indirectly she gave a hint to her daughter too… but now..Am so sure…her mom has some reason to keep this away other than the religious difference…Cause..she knew,My parents will convince her if Religion was the problem….That’s why she took a different way!! I never thought my to be Mother in law to be this shrewd…..I stood to my height…

My family is on my side..!! that was more enough for me now!! I saw her mom…Shrewdness!! to me?? that’s not good…I saw my parents..Especially my dad!! He was silent..pondering on something…

“Yes..She loves me..Am sure..!”,I said..

“Did she say so?”,her mom gave a enquiry note…

Cornering Arjun Fernandez!?? That’s one worst move…!!

“Yes..she confessed..”,I said aloud… I din’t want to say that..but she gave me no other option..!

“Radhi…Come here…Is it true?..”,she called without turning to her side…

I turned my head to see her coming towards her mom…Slowly….My dad looked her with a smile…My mom with a brighter smile…Sam? I turned and saw her,to sob with a sad pout eyes glued on her Bestie…May be she got some hint I guessed… I so wanted Radhika to look me once..Look up..Look up…Look up…here…My mind screamed…..

“No Mom!”,She said feeble…I saw my sister,to smile humorless..!!

“Then why were you silent till now”,her mom asked further….

.Clever! she wants to clear the air!!

“Am sorry uncle….Its my fault..Fernandez sir..sir..thought…”,she stuttered…

“Radhikaa!!”,I called her…Unable to control anymore…atleast now..she should look me… But No!!

“Fernandez sir…Am sorry!!”,she had her eyes glued on ground.. I saw my parents.,who gave a equally blank look….Well..If only..If only they had said something on my favor…
She wouldn’t have been pushed to face such a situation…,Their silence is the reason…My dad’s mistrust on me….thinking am not confident with my words…that’s one more reason….Now Radhika was questioned!…and this girl…how stupid….Here.,half past 9 at night.,Am pleading for her hand.,and she comes with a ready made apology…and for what…???!

I tried hard to control my anger.. “So you don’t love me??”,I asked a little high… Her mom looked me surprised..

“Arjun!!”,My dad tried to get a upper hand in that situation…

“No !!”,she mumbled….

“Really..!”,I asked with my forefinger raising her chin to face me…Only me!! That’s the last thing I could do to make her look me….Her eyes read guilt….God!! What for !

“Really?!!”,I enunciated with a bright smile…

“YESSS”,she said to my face..and I left my hold…

She stood there..,after defeating me and my love…and Everyone else was also silent…I know…Only her mom would be happy now..!! My mom would be worried thinking what if I drown myself in drinking…My dad gave a pitiful look to her…Sam was already like half lost in battle….

“Go..!! Go inside…Close the door..And start your crying session…Keep on crying throughout your life…”,I pushed her shoulder…She staggered a little… “Tell me one thing..What for you cried till now??,,,For the loss you had in past and that you have invited for your future??….For your dad or for me??….You thought I was a fool not to get it??…you…”..I saw her to tremble a little….I never thought to pull her dad’s topic….,but…..I felt irritated that even I too had hurt her Now..,

“Listen..Love is not a sin…Forget this day from your life…Never I asked your hand..and Never you said No to me…But…I want only one thing in return…Never regret that you were in love..!! …May be loving a person like me..,Could be a sin…but a person like you..to fell in love…,couldn’t be..”,I smiled patting her cheek….and she crashed to my chest crying aloud….

Surprisingly I got what I wanted..!! Her reply..! She now confessed with her tears..!! Everyone’s face turned pale listening her sobs..They have to!!…In particular her mom!….She needs to know.,this is what she was about to gift her child, throwing me away from her life…..My mom gestured me to convince her…I saw her mom,but was surprised to see a lone tear to escape from her right eye…she seemed to hold herself from breaking down…I wasn’t sure anyway…

“What for you are crying now….I told you not to cry today..!! Aren’t you tired of crying….”,I asked patting her head a little.. “Somewhere I am imperfect for you”,I shot my last arrow after a minute as I already knew her answer…

“No..you are too good….”,she looked around and I controlled my smirk….

“Really”,I made her to look me…She turned her gaze to her mom..!! Again..she gave her reply…

“Go…Refresh yourself..!”,I gestured Sam to take her…

“Aunty….She is ready to give up her love.,for your sake….She made you proud,throwing me away…She din’t let you down….Ah..well..,she thought this is how,she could prove her love and respect for her mother…Now..,how you will make that love worthy enough for you..”,I sugar coated my anger….

“Aru…Every mom feels the same way!! and You shouldn’t speak…”

“Please mom!! Without Aunty’s consent she won’t accept me….I know that…But..Lemme just share few words.,before I leave… After I leave.,Please don’t scold her for what I spoke and did..!! and…Never doubt your upbringing..Pls..for heaven’s sake….She is such a Angel everyone would wish to have in their life…and Am no exceptional !!…..Being a single parent..you gave her the best…I would say…that she was ready to bring happiness in everyone’s life at any cost….I honestly admire that quality of hers….you have one precious daughter….but…the only drawback…you turned her weak…A weak personality…!! A person who faintly smiles at her own achievement and success…who fakes
a smile for others….that is the reason she still thinks about her dad…Its not missing…!! For you filled that void he made….It’s something else…!! She feels she hasn’t done anything for you…I guess am Correct….. I gave u a sample..This is what you are gonna gift her…! TEARS…Am sorry to say..but that’s true…Even if its not me.,Get her a good guy..who could gift her what her dad could…And I believe……No one else,other than me can do that!”…. I finished and gestured Sam for water.. “And…Will you let me do that”,I asked like a request…

I saw my dad considering my words.,and my mom squeezed her mom’s hand in response…

“Please Say yes Aunty..Please…!!”,Sam extended me a glass of water and sat on the armrest close to her mom…

One lovely sister.,I got…A gem!!….who expressed her support and her wish to have her Bestie in my life.,in silence..,only through her gestures to her friend…Sam din’t look me once,from the moment I proposed.,only after I vocalized that am worth enough for her bestie..,she saw me and now.,she followed me in suit…..From when she got this matured…My baby sister spoke like a elder sibling…

“Will you say something or sit like this”,Sam pouted angrily looking my dad… “Aunty…I will take care of Radhu…We won’t cook non veg…and…and…If bhai scolds her…I won’t leave him”,she said..

As though I would scold her…God!! These crazy people!!!…

“My son is not like me..Nandhini ji..!! Don’t think he will repeat the same mistake what I did…Radhu…I call her a Angel….We will be so happy if you accept this proposal…After seeing her tears…how could we..,well….yours was also a love marriage like us…isn’t?!…Then why to deprive our children from that happiness….Think yourself”,My dad finally spoke…

Well…Though its late.,he clarified one unexpressed doubt of her mom!! ‘My son not like me’…

“Nandhu…we had no one in our times…But we are there for our children..Isn’t !!…I had never seen Radhu breaking down..!! Somewhere I feel guilty….I was never able to identify her pain…she gave me our family back..but..”,that was my mom…

“Must say…True Business Man!”,her mom smiled a little to my face as I sipped water…..I smiled wide the next sec..

“Well Aunty…In that case…I would say…your to be son in law proved his caliber too”,I laughed a little…

I saw them to chat regarding our marriage…! I should thank my sister for that… “Shall we get them married after this Christmas?”,she asked suddenly…and I smiled to her mom…and turned to see Radhika.,who crossed her room and went somewhere…..What the heck? Wasn’t she supposed to be here?

I made a move to fetch another glass of water.,but silently turned to right of that hall.,and found her to speak…speak with whom??… “Pls..Pls…Mom should say yes”,she prayed so cute,pouting a sad one.,tilting her head like a plead…and turned,but stood stunned looking me there to lean with my left attached to wall,folding my arms..

So much love for me!! Yet..!! If My yearn was for her reply.,hers was for a completely different one…a Difficult one too..!!

“Your mom din’t accept our love”,I glared her..

“Tch…I know…Thats y I said…”

“that you don’t love me.!”,I snapped her..

She tried to move and staggered stepping on her own skirt…

“Hey..how do they do marriage in your culture..”I asked….She turned sullen….why to ask.,when I had watched in bollywood movies….

“Please move”,she tried to walk past.. I bend down a little.,and took a sindoor box…”Sindoor?” I asked..

“Kumkum”,her eyes fixed on that box…

Whatever….I kept it a little on her forehead and handed it back to her… She looked me confused…..I removed my chain and slid down her neck…My first earning.! Platinum one..It looked bit bold to her fragile form..I adjusted it..and winked at her….She glared me as she kept the box down…Somewhere I felt,this is the only way to make her understand that I won’t step back from our love….

“Whats..who…Tell me your lord’s name?”, I pointed one small idol.,that she prayed before… Now she glared me even more…!!

“See..Am honestly not familiar…I know only few..Maa Durga..Dussera fest..and Goddess Lakshmi…hmmm…Ganesh Chathurthi….So…”,I dragged..and found a pic of Lord Ganesh..! Glad I watched movies..Coz..I hardly get into other religious issues…when I was bit afar from my own..!! “Thats..Lord Ganesh I know”,I smiled wide…

“Both are same”,she said feeble with a stern look to me…

Now I scrutinized my eyes to that,less than 2 inch silver idol….Yes..she was right!! I saw her still giving me the same expression….little bit annoyed…From when.,she got this boldness..”He is the witness”,I smiled…

“Its not fun!”,she hissed…

“Did I say so..”

“Don’t insult God..!”.,she looked me annoyed..

I pulled her arm…”When did I…??..Tell me…and…Dare to remove my chain”,I said cold…I had been patient even after her stunts and still….this girl managed to annoy me..!! I saw her face to turn worried…Hitting my forehead to hers.,I whispered…”Still what dear? your mom said Yes…!..Sweetheart….I Love you with all my heart and soul….”…my hands holding her cheeks, now held her shoulder to hug her…

She quickly pulled back…”Pooja room!”,she pouted a little..

“So?”,I asked confused.. “Did I say it to be a Kitchen..”,she pushed me and went..,but stopped exactly before reaching the hall..A step..!we will be visible to them…,

We saw her mom to say something and my family to listen her intent….Aaaahhhhh!!! Now what’s next….?? “Hey I never knew your parents did love marriage”,I coiled my arm to her left shoulder.,and she pushed my hand down,,I again did.,and she again pushed….I again held., but now,when she pushed I gripped her waist hard….I could feel her breath to hitch..her belly sucked in completely… “Breathe out!”,I whispered like a song…and the wonderful part was she immediately did it exactly like the way I sang…..

Thanks to her mom..!! The story was interesting I guess..None paid attention to us….She looked me like a kid.,her left trying to push my hand….She sagged unconsciously to my left affected by my grip…..I left her waist and held by shoulder close to me….

“Will you ask me to convert to your religion?”,she asked feeble crooking her neck to my height….I nodded negative…Why on earth I would ask her to…

“Then how?”,she spoke to herself…and I leaned to her height..pretending that am trying to hear from her closed mouth…She glared me…

“Then how to marry..?”,she whispered and I looked her confused…Does she has to think something always…

“You din’t listen to my mom?”,she asked again…

Am I here to listen your mom? what to say? My work is done….When I cornered everyone pointing their mistakes…Failed to notice her pain.,but was ready to oppose our love..!! She turned thoughtful suddenly…..

“What are you thinking sir?”,I mimicked exactly like her.,and she rolled her eyes…

“My dad and mom belong to different caste..belong to same place….they disowned it seems….and…”,she paused and I raised my brows in suspicion….She pointed my forehead.,and tried to touch.,but I pulled back….

I checked with a mirror on my left and found a dot of kumkum to be there…well…May be when I hit hers….It would have got…This isn’t that important…

“Let it be..you continue the story”,I said and tried to coil my arm around her…..but she moved away a little….

“That isn’t story…”,she turned serious…

I looked her fixed…..I had missed to notice that ‘something serious’ which was bothering her..may be her mom too…

“This is why I hesitated…and Radhi…She is still a kid…Prena di…..Am not sure…Pls don’t take me wrong”,I heard her mom saying this…

Is she back to square one!! My mind raised a warning…

“What you aren’t sure about..”,I asked doubted.. “Our marriage?”, I continued…

“No no…your marriage is fixed…This is something else…We elders will solve..”,My dad got up but looked her shocked….why? I saw Sam to glare her..But..But..My little darling unaware of all this was in deep thought.,rolling her eyes cutely…..Every time..,one way or other.,she makes me to feel like a poet..admiring every single move of hers….

“Now what are you thinking about?”,I asked exhausted….and the first one to smile was her mom….Surprise that was!..

Sam gave me a teasing look….and My mom mock glared at me… “What were you both doing?”,Sam sang her inquiry like a granny…

“Why..?”,She asked…I saw her mom to notice my chain…Yes…the reason for this expressions….

“Aunty…I gifted her my chain…”,I said…No…I informed…I still din’t trust any one of them.,except my sister….Until things come to my table…I won’t !!..

“I said not to remove isn’t”,I said to her sharp.,when her fingers touched it..

“I din’t..”,she responded feeble and next minute I was hit with numerous taunts from my own family for raising my voice….Where were they before?!!…I had woke them up.!!

“You don’t worry Nandhini…Take care of your health”,My mom pressed her palm like a assurance….

I guess I missed something important….I was surprised when her mom smiled at me thankfully…Satisfied….I reciprocated the same way though I was unaware of what got transpired in my absence…

“You forgot something I guess”,My dad remarked sarcastic as he neared the door… “And..Radhu…Don’t forget..Tomorrow..Am cooking!! Come for breakfast..No Angry bird excuses…”,he smiled to her…

Angry bird excuses!! I saw her and my family laughed at my shocked reaction….Everyone knew the name??!!!..

“Aunty…I said what I felt..If any…suppose..”,I paused..because I din’t want to apologize.,but still My dad had remarked it in his style…

“No need to apologize…heard that you are leaving tomorrow…Take care!”,she smiled…

Yes..!! Am leaving tomorrow….I saw her to look me shocked listening that…

“Come..Its getting late…Radhu..”,I saw my sister to wait with that Christmas star….I extended my hand but she snatched and got on the stool…

“She won’t let anyone to do…Stubborn!”,I heard her mom saying as she left inside her home… Both the girls clicked selfies with that star…!!

“Why you have Christmas star?”,I asked…

“Why can’t I?”,she retorted surprising me….

“Selfie with me..”,I quickly got on her side and Sam left getting the hint….”Leave your skirt”,I said focusing us in my mobile,and she left her clasp on that silk fabric…Instead looked me…Perfect!!

I clicked a pic….still wasn’t ready to leave her side.,”What’s that troubling you still? Will you let me know or not?”,I asked low with my gaze fixed on her image in my mobile..

“Will you give me your Goa number..?”,she asked hesitant…

I exhaled displeased…I conveyed my stance this clear..yet..yet!! she is….”You have rights to ask..no need to be hesitant….and I had already added that your contacts.”,I said as I slid my hand to her waist…

“Your mom got retired..”,I asked….

“VRS”.she mumbled faintly…

“You had plans to leave chennai…”,I asked and she nodded… “When?”…

“Next month…January end…!! When will you come back?”,she asked looking me hopefully…

“Next week..”

“Shall I…umm..I will call you tomorrow evening…”,She said clear this time…

“Good…but..I will call you tonight”,I stepped aside to leave as we cant stand this close in that balcony for long time…

“Ok..Now..Don’t hop in those steps…and don’t dive yourself into chat foods..and fat..”,I paused looking her mom.. “Good night Aunty.!”,I signed her off.,and she nodded in response..

I skipped the steps fast and once reaching the bend,10 more steps before me,turning back,I looked her from head to toe…winking a little,I called her down.,with my left finger gesturing her to….She descended just 4 steps from her place…Safe zone!!!….heading over one.,I pulled her for a warm hug,kissing her temple.,I said.,”Be confident..Am there for you!!…Little…”

“Am not little”,she mumbled pushing my shoulder…

“Ok..S**y”,I whispered,kissing her cheek…her eyes went round like that of a Jamun listening that.,amusing me..!!..”Good night Radhika Fernandez”,I said as she climbed those 4 steps…

“Arrr…Ferr,….”,she giggled…

“Hey once!”,I lifted my mobile to click one full length pic of hers….She peeped to check her mom and smiled…I snapped my look from the screen to her.,as I watched her to pose different….with her right palm supporting her hip.,she turned her right profile to face me,winking a little she smiled a s**y one.,and my eyes widened with ultimate surprise….She giggled looking my reaction….her whole vibrated….I chuckled and now she fully turned facing me… “See you next week…Good night….Fernandezz Sirrrrr”,she sounded sweet as usual…

I have decided !! Tomorrow..Am not going to leave for Goa!!
