Morning sun peeked through the space at the top of the closed curtains throwing shafts of light and creating it’s own laser show. One such shaft fell directly on the serene face of the girl lying on the bed, bathing her features and hair in a golden hue. In spite of this intrusion from the sunlight, the girl lay motionless, completely un-disturbed by the sunlight flashing on her eyes. Just then, a tall dark man emerged from the bathroom door within the room. He walked absent-mindedly to a very modern looking dresser and combed his neatly cut hair. He stared at his face and his khaki trousers and vest clad body for a few seconds, a calm anguish pouring gently from his eyes. Letting out a heavy sigh, he walked over to the cupboard on his right, opened its doors, and took out a dark navy blue shirt. Slipping it on quickly, he walked slowly towards the bed, buttoning his shirt as he walked. By the time he reached the girls’ bedside, his shirt had been buttoned and neatly tucked into the waistband of his trousers. He looked at her illuminated face for a while , then sat down by her side carefully.
He picked up one of her limp hands in his and softly pressed his lips to it. Next, he raised his right hand to caress her hair and her forehead. Clearly, the effect of sedation given to her the previous night was still lingering on. Else she would have woken up by now. “Wake up and for once recognize me, and see how I have transformed everything about myself, my life, my surroundings, to suit your comfort and liking. All for you. Bhabho thinks you are faking it but the doctors confirm that the gunshot you took on your head affected the memory portion of your brain which is why it’s likely that you have lost all memory of the past year. I don’t know who is right. All I know is that I will bring you back. Let it take months or years, but you’ll remember me, and then I will begin my apologies, so many of them, but I have made a list so I’ll remember each one.” His train of thought ran at hurricane speed rushing through his conscious and his subconscious and he barely heard the knock at the door. Not getting a response from him, the lady at the door entered the room and walked up to him. She cast one pitiful glance at him and gently placed one wrinkled hand on his shoulder.
” Breakfast is ready. Go have it. I’ll tidy up the room and keep and eye on her.” She said gently.
Nodding his agreement, he got up, gave a faint smile to the lady standing in front of him, and strode out of the room.
Bhabho tidied up the room in a few minutes; there was not much to tidy; he was after all a very self-discipline man still inspite of the 180 degree turn he had given his life. She went to sit by her granddaughter and looked gravely at her peaceful face.
It had been 6 months since the horrific incident that had almost killed Kanak. Aditya had aimed for her heart, but distracted by a shout from his older brother in the background, had shot her in the head instead. The bullet had hit her on the side, more than a graze ,but thankfully, less than a direct hit. The next few months had been a series of painful visits to the police station, the court, and the hospital in Delhi where Kanak had undergone surgery and following care. Eventually she had recovered physically but apparently had lost the memory of the past 7-8 months of her life. Bhabho had a hard time buying that but her granddaughter was either actually going through a partial amnesia or was acting brilliantly. The week before she was discharged, Uma had brought the big bombshell news to her. ”
I have sold everything in Ladno and all of my other property. I want nothing to do with that place anymore. I have bought a house in Pushkar and it has been furnished with as modern and contemporary facilities as possible in Pushkar. That is where I will take her. Suman and Shiv can join us there or they can continue to stay with Payal and Saras at your house where they have company and can carry out their regular studies and other activities. We can still meet everyday. But you Bhabho, I need you to stay with me, to help me bring her back to health and happiness. Will you help me? Will you support me?”
Bhabho recalled the conversation as if it had taken place yesterday, and wiped her eyes. ” Chhori, manney maloom hai ki tu naatak karey hai.” she said softly patting Kanak’s forehead gently. ” Par kab tak? Ab bas kar. He has repented and is going to repent his entire life. He has turned his whole world upside down to make you believe in him again. Now come back and let’s move on.”
Seeing the immobile form of her granddaughter, she got up. ” I’ll come back in a few minutes to check on you again.” she said in almost a whisper and turned around to leave the room. The hitherto limp form on the bed stirred mildly. As Bhabho reached the door, Kanak slowly opened her eyes and stared blankly at the disappearing form of her grandmother.

Thanks for reading Everyone. I am incapable of writing without inspiration and I lost it for this show. The recent news of leap and death and whatnot on you tube baffled me as I hadn’t watched in a while. And then my brain started to think how that could be converted into something non-toxic and this is what I came up with. I don’t know if it’s any good but here it is. I have no further ideas so it’s a one shot. Maybe one of you could carry it forward. Thanks again for reading. Have a good day all! Hope the show rocks with a good storyline.
