Actress Akanksha Juneja falls victim to phishing fraud while ordering food online
In recent times, phishing fraud has reached alarming levels, claiming numerous victims, including prominent personalities. Akanksha Juneja, the talented actress currently portraying Nidhi in the popular TV show Kundali Bhagya, recently revealed her own encounter with cybercrime, losing Rs 30,000 in the process while attempting to order food online.
Talking about the harrowing incident in a recent interview, Akanksha recounted, “The frequency of cyber fraud cases is disconcerting, and we all try to be cautious. However, fraudsters have become incredibly cunning, devising new methods to deceive people. On one occasion, I received a call from a seemingly genuine company number while placing a food order. The caller insisted that I confirm the order by clicking on a link sent to my phone. Although I questioned the need for such a step, the person convinced me that it was a new protocol for confirming food orders. Regrettably, as soon as I clicked on the link, Rs 10,000 was deducted from my account every 5 minutes.”
The actress continued, “I was utterly bewildered and desperate to comprehend what was happening. Fortunately, I recollected clicking on that suspicious link and immediately contacted my bank to block my account. Despite my swift action, I lost a significant amount of Rs 30,000. It was truly disheartening for me, as hard-earned money going to waste without reason brings immense sorrow.”
Warning others about the menace of online fraud, Akanksha urged everyone to exercise extreme caution. She emphasized, “In today’s world, people must remain vigilant about the prevalent online scams. The link that the fraudster sent me allowed unauthorized access to my phone, leading to the unfortunate incident. Never click on links from unknown sources, as fraudsters are incredibly adept at deceiving unsuspecting individuals.”
Apart from her acting roles in well-known projects like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Hamaari Beti Raaj Karegi, Dil Se Di Dua Saubhagyavati Bhava, and Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2, Akanksha’s cautionary tale serves as a stark reminder of the importance of cybersecurity and staying vigilant against phishing attacks in the digital age.
