In today’s entertainment landscape, the influence of social media has significantly altered the dynamics for actors, a sentiment echoed by Kanchi Singh, renowned for her role in ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya.’ She perceives the industry’s transformation, highlighting the emphasis on cultivating a strong online presence, saying, “The surge in social media has reshaped our field. Now, aspiring individuals seek stardom. YouTubers and influencers have emerged as formidable figures, often overshadowing actors due to their immense popularity. I, too, sense the pressure to expand my social media followers. Despite being an introvert, adapting to these changing times has been necessary.”
Having last appeared in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,’ Kanchi is making a return to acting through a web series after a hiatus of seven years. Addressing the reason behind her absence, she explains, “I patiently awaited the right opportunity. The hiatus prolonged due to health concerns and weight fluctuations amid the pandemic. Additionally, I was keen on exploring OTT platforms, as it resonates more with audiences. Unlike earlier times when TV shows had longer runs, today, they conclude within months. While older shows retain prominence, newer ones encounter difficulties in captivating audiences. Most viewers now prefer watching their favorite content on mobile devices.”
Initiating her career at the tender age of eight with ‘Kutumb,’ Kanchi reflects on the industry’s unpredictability, stating, “I’ve realized that during favorable times, work floods in, but it diminishes when circumstances change.”
Navigating the uncertainties of the profession, Kanchi acknowledges, “Apart from professional challenges, personal life’s lows also impact one’s demeanor. I experienced a relationship where I had vested my hopes for the future, but it didn’t materialize. My family became my pillar of support during these challenging times. It reinforced the understanding that while people may fade away, family remains a constant. I’ve decided to focus solely on my career now. Relationships can divert attention, and after ample rest, I’m determined to recenter my focus.”
