Earth Day which serves as a reminder to spread awareness about protecting the planet earth is observed every year on April 22. Actor Aly Goni in a recent interview with BT expressed his feelings for the day and shared that he feels like we have taken mother earth for granted for far too long and it’s time that we learn from our mistakes.
He said, “It shouldn’t be a one-day affair to spread awareness about saving the earth. I feel that every day should be an earth day because it’s our home. We exist because it exists and causing any damage to it means injuring ourselves. I feel we have taken advantage of our planet for a very long time thinking that we are in power, but it won’t be long before we are made to pay for our irresponsible behavior.”
Aly added, “During the first lockdown, the air became clean and the roads litter-free. Everyone spoke about how the earth was healing. But we soon went back to our old ways. I feel we need to realize our wrongdoings and rectify those mistakes. Let’s save mother earth before it’s too late. Every big change needs time, but with every step we get closer to that big change. And as they say, charity begins at home. So, let’s begin with educating ourselves, families and friends. Something like segregating the waste or keeping a reusable bag always handy can make a lot of difference.”
Talking about how he is doing his bit, the actor shared, “Apart from waste segregation and carrying a reusable bag and water bottle, I don’t use things made of plastic. I never leave the water running and even store the discarded water from my water purifier. I like greenery around me and indulge in gardening, too. I have a lot of plants at home. Mother Earth nurtures us throughout and we need to acknowledge it by respecting her.”
