Marriages are made in heaven and well, it is destined for some people to drift apart after some time. And there is nothing wrong with it too. But when dirty linen gets washed in public it becomes strange. Karan Mehra and Nisha Rawal has left the television industry in shock when Nisha accused Karan of violence and he got arrested for the same. But Karan says that she banged her own head against the wall and is now blaming him.
Talking about how things unravelled, Karan opened up to BT. he said, “Nisha has been behaving strangely since the past three years. It gets tough to deal with her because of her nature. In April, she told me that we should get separated. I finally relented. It was also becoming increasingly difficult to deal with her erratic behaviour. I returned from Chandigarh and tested positive for COVID-19. I tested negative on May 23 and spoke to her to sort things out amicably for our son Kavish as he is our priority. Let’s take stock of our situation, figure out what we can do, what can be worked out and move on in life. Theek hai do logon ki nahi bani. But Kavish should be happy whenever he sees us together. It should not be an odd situation for him.”
He added, “While I was trying to work things out and give her what she needed, she contacted criminal lawyers. The discussions weren’t going anywhere. Initially, I called her rakhi brother, Rohit Sethia, to mediate between us and stop her from misbehaving with my parents and me. Mere saath toh chal ho rahi thi, par mummy papa ke saath thoda kharaab ho jaata hai. It escalates.”
There is buzz that Nisha has asked for a very high amount as alimony. Karan shared, “I told her that this is the amount I will be able to provide per month. Things kept going back and forth and I told her this is all I could afford. So, yesterday, I sat with her and Rohit for a discussion. I told them that I have tried my best to give what I can and would try to add a bit more. I explained to them that as a father, I would also like to do things for my son and would need money for myself as well, as I would be living separately. I can’t be on road. You can’t make unreasonable demands while seeking a divorce. One has to understand how much the other person can afford to give as alimony.”
Karan continued, “I told Rohit that the money she is asking for won’t be possible for me. He went away. I was talking to my mother on the phone when Nisha started talking to me and then soon started abusing me, claiming that I ruined her life. Kaise barbaad kar dee, main toh baat karne ke liye baitha hoon. I pulled it through for so many years. Also, if that was the case, why did she put up with it? I am the one asking for a divorce and that, too, amicably. I told her that I can’t deal with it anymore. She abused my parents and brother and I asked her to stop it. She became more agitated and hit me. She spat on me and I told her that I don’t want to be in this situation anymore. I went to wash my hands and she told me, “Now you see what I will do”. I turned and saw her bang her head against the wall. She went out and said, “Yeh Karan ne kiya”.”
Things escalated even more post that. Karan said, “I immediately ran outside and said that I didn’t even touch her. Rohit got riled up and slapped me. I told him not to do it and ask Nisha the truth. He hit me again. I held his hand to stop him, but he pushed and punched me. He also threatened to kill my family and me. Before I could do anything, they started recording Nisha’s video and taking her pictures. I was shocked to see them do that. They started calling their friends. She had earlier told me that if she didn’t get what she asked for, she wouldn’t mind losing everything, but would do this.”
Talking about Nisha’s behaviour, Karan said, “She has always been aggressive and in the beginning, she was physically abusive as well. Usko gussa aata hai toh woh haath paav chalaati hai, usko samajh mein nahi aata hai. (When she gets angry she hits people). She starts throwing and breaking things. I had thought it would get better, and it did to a certain extent, but phir woh activate hone laga. Things have been bad since the past four-five years and there came a point, when I became suicidal.”
The actor secured bail hours after he was arrested on charges levelled against him by his wife. He says, “They tried to get a lot of sections added in the complaint, but that didn’t happen. The police heard my side of the story. I secured bail and left for my friend’s house. I came back to record my statement again. It’s going to get very difficult and this is the reason why I wanted to save things from getting ugly. It’s very easy to judge a man.”
Nisha Rawal however went to share disturbing images of her injury from last night and revealed that he assaulted her in front of everyone at their residence. She said, “Karan has been having an affair with another girl, which I didn’t know about. When I came to know about it, he accepted that he has another girl in his life. I asked if he has physical relation if it’s a serious affair or an emotional one. He said ‘I love that girl. I have been having physical affair with her.’
