Avika Gor shares an incident when she learnt about menstruation while shooting for Balika Vadhu

Avika Gor has been immersed in the entertainment industry since the tender age of seven. She gained immense popularity for her portrayal of Anandi in the acclaimed television series Balika Vadhu. Her performance endeared her to audiences, showcasing her remarkable acting skills. Recently, Avika shared insights about her first encounter with menstruation while filming the show.

In an interview with Hauterrfly, Avika Gor reflected on her experiences during the Balika Vadhu days, discussed her forthcoming projects, and opened up about her relationship with boyfriend Milind Chandwani.

When queried about her introduction to menstruation, Avika revealed, “It was through Balika Vadhu.” She recounted an intriguing incident: “Interestingly, my periods hadn’t started yet, but I had to film an episode where Anandi experiences her first period while living with her in-laws, not her mother.”

Expanding on the scene, Avika detailed, “It spanned two episodes where Anandi is distressed upon seeing blood, and her sasu maa (played by Smita Bansal) comforts her, explaining that it’s a normal occurrence. Anandi also feels the absence of her mother keenly.”

Behind the scenes, Avika’s director inquired if she knew about menstruation. Avika responded that her mother had explained it to her.

“For that specific scene, my mom explained what periods are,” Avika said. “She told me, ‘You have this scene, so I need to explain it to you. This will happen in real life too, and this is what it entails.’ Thanks to Balika Vadhu, I learned many things very early.”

Avika also mentioned how the show educated her about various issues at a young age. She expressed her surprise at learning that child marriage still existed in parts of India, a reality highlighted by the show’s narrative.

For those unfamiliar, Avika portrayed Anandi from 2008 to 2010. Balika Vadhu ran from 2008 to 2016, featuring a stellar cast including Pratyusha Banerjee, Sidharth Shukla, Shashank Vyas, Shakti Anand, Mahhi Vij, and many others.
