Bhabhi Ji Ghar Pe Hai fame Rohitashav Gour reveals he will not be doing television anymore
Bhabhi Ji Ghar Pe Hai fame actor, Rohitashav Gour durng a recent interview, talked about his role as Mukundilal in Lapataganj and shared how the role gave him the fame and success that he always desired. “It was very popular and it made me realize that I have made a mark. Later, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Pe Hai gave me another level of success. It made me popular and a household name. It is interesting to note that even though the show has completed seven years and the main female leads have changed, I am surprised that the audience still shows the same love.”
Ask the National School of Drama graduate as to why we rarely witness actors from NSD working on the small screen today and he replied, “NSD graduates earlier didn’t hesitate on working on TV because, for a few years, the content on TV was really different. A lot of our shows were based on literary works like Prem Chandra ki kahani, Madhu Bhandari ki kahani, Bharat Ek Khoj, Chanakya, among others. All of this was quite mature content for TV and attracted NSD graduates. In fact, this was the reason I did Laptaganj because that was based on ‘Sharad Joshi ki Vyang Rachna’ and we could relate to that kind of content. However, NSD graduates like me could not relate to the daily soap drama.”
He added, “Now we see those kinds of stuff on OTT and not on television. With the likes of Pankaj Tripathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vineet Kumar all of our batchmates are flourishing on OTT. They stood on the sidelines on TV and did not get a major role on TV as they did not have that chocolatey face but today they are getting some really good stuff on the OTT. Unfortunately, TV par sirf chehra dikhta hai. Even for the role of a father, the makers need someone who does not have grey hair. They will cast a young boy because they want a good-looking face only. So in short, TV is today all about good faces.”
Rohitashav who has been essaying the role of Manmohan Tiwari on Bhabhi Ji Ghar Pe Hai for around seven years hinted that he might not do TV after this serial wraps up. He says, “Ho sakta hai Bhabhi Ji ke baad main TV karun hi na. I want to do mature work – the type of work happening on OTT today. I will not be doing television once Bhabhi Ji wraps up as I think I have done enough on television. Also, I am not meant for daily soaps and want to explore different genres which is not possible on the current medium.”
