In hospital, Arjun came out from doctor cabin. Rajat was waiting for him standing outside. Arjun sat on a chair in corridor.
Rajat ( in a worried tone)- Are you all right Arjun? Is your wound is paining too much?
Arjun (sighed)- That blo*dy killer escaped. When I reached the hotel, he already shot Rana, but I can catch him easily. ( Arjun closed his eyes) I missed a big chance. When he kicked at my wound, my whole body feels numb.
Rajat- I know Arjun. Rana’s death is a big drawback, but you can’t give up.
Arjun did not say anything.
Rajat- I have a news for you Arjun. DGP Anirudh Dasgupta is here. Your four days deadline is getting over. And, it’s time for decision. Today, at evening, he has a meeting with Sashank Sir at Police Headquarter.
Arjun face lit up. “That’s a fantastic news Rajat. My presence is very important in that meeting. Only I can give them all the answers to each of their questions. Arjun spoke in a very confident tone.
Rajat (in awe)- But Rana is dead!
Arjun ( with a smirk)- So what??
Arjun came back in his home & entered in the washroom to freshen up. After sometimes, he came out wearing a white full sleeves shirt & black trousers. He wore a black tie & put on a black suit. He closed a button & clipped his Identity card like badge on the left side of his chest. He combed his hair & then looked at himself on the mirror carefully. He took some deep breaths to calm down . He took his laptop & some other files in a bag & went out closing the door.
At Police Headquarter, Arjun stopped outside a closed door. Rajat tapped his shoulder & murmured “All the Best to him. Arjun nodded his head & smiled. Arjun knocked & came inside the cabin. It’s a conference room. The Special Director of IB, DGP Anirudh Dasgupta was sitting there and working something in his laptop. He looks old but there is something in his personality which is intimidating & he has a strong powerful aura. IG Sashank Bhargav is also present there. Arjun greeted both of them. DGP Anirudh gave him a blank look & gestured him to take his seat. Arjun sat on the chair beside Sashank. Anirudh closed his laptop & looked towards Arjun.
Anirudh- IPS Arjun Mehra, I don’t think I have to waste my precious time to elaborate the reason for this meeting. So, without wasting any more minute, just speak what you have to say.
Arjun- Sir, but before answering, let me again frame all the questions of accusations against me and my would be wife Samaira Khanna to avoid any confusion.
Anirudh & Sashank both raised their eyebrows looking towards Arjun, but he gave them a small smile.
Sashank- Samaira Khanna’s bank account was used in terrorist funding.
Arjun ( in a confident tone)- I can prove that the account is not Samaira’s.
Anirudh- Then, proceed officer.
Arjun nodded his head & switched on his laptop. He showed the picture of Zubin. ” He is Zubin, Samaira friend & colleague in Birdsong. Then, he played the video of Zubin confession.
Arjun- Sir, you can check the authenticity of the video by Forensic examination & can also interrogate Zubin again. He is in SI Rajat Basu’s custody.
Anirudh- That we will surely do. But Officer, this Zubin confession is not enough proof to prove Samaira’s innocent.
Sashank- We all know, the Xerox of Identity proofs can be misused easily. It is not a big deal to get photocopies of someone’s identity proofs or forging a signature. But what your explanation regarding the use of Samaira Khanna’s cell number in that account? Don’t tell me that someone cloned the SIM card or phone. Our cyber experts thoroughly scanned Samaira Khanna’s cell & according to their report , there is no such things happened in her phone or SIM card.
Arjun- Sir, when did I say that Samaira’s phone or SIM get cloned? Without cloning also someone can fake someone’s number.
Sashank- & how is that possible?
Arjun- The answer is “Spoofing. Sir, spoof call is designed to be extremely simple & easy to use caller ID faker & fake number caller. The main purpose is definitely to make funny parody calls & to play pranks, but here it’s used for illegal activities. The caller ID spoofing allows one to display a phone number different than the actual number from which call was placed. The most popular & easiest method is used through VOIP, Voice Over Internet Protocol, it is the technology that allows communications to be sent over an Internet connection rather than a cell tower. The user need to open an application through web or mobile of the spoofing provider. They enter the number they wish to call or message, followed by the number they wish to display & when they press “send or “call, the caller ID get changed & then connected to their desired number.
Arjun paused for some time. Silence prevailed in the room. Both the seniors did not ask any questions to Arjun.
Arjun- Now, the question is how am I going to prove that “Spoofing actually happened? Sir, I already mentioned about Rana, Nandini Pandey’s driver & camaraderie, in my previous reports to Ministry. He was hiding in a hotel near the Station area. But unfortunately before I get him, someone other reached there & killed him. My bad luck, I did not get a chance to interrogate him. But I got a bag in his room. It contains some of his clothes, cash & two cell phones. In one cell, there is no SIM card. When I checked the cell phone’s IMEI number, I got that it was his old phone. Definitely, he destroyed the SIM so that we failed to track him. But in his phone, I got a spoofing software & Samaira’s cell number saved in it & also the transactions successful messages from the bank. Now, the next important question is, when Samaira’s SIM is not cloned, how the transactions completed messages which is supposed to be on her phone, received in Rana’s phone? The answer is, according to Zubin statement, Rajen took Samaira’s phone for an hour & the time is enough to install a malware in Samaira’s phone.
Sashank- But our Cyber expert team did not mention any kind of malware detection in Miss Khanna’s phone.
Arjun- Sir, this is a bill of a mobile repairing shop. Samaira was facing some problems when she was using Net in her mobile. All Apps were running extremely slow & frequently, he phone was getting hanged. So, she & her friend, Neil Malhotra went to the mobile repairing shop & gave her phone for servicing. Though, the repairing shop unable to detect the actual problem, but they formatted the phone & ran a security application & the problem get solved. That’s why, no malware now detected in her phone. I am submitting the bill & the repairing shop register photocopies in support. You can check in the Repairing shop & interrogate Neil for further confirmation.
Arjun stopped. This time also no one questions him.
Arjun- Sir, there is another basic point which we failed to notice. Whenever, we open a new account in bank, first we need to fill up a form with all necessary details online or offline & also we need to submit photocopies of all our identity proofs. After processing, bank sent a confirmation letter by post. After that we need to show that confirmation in the bank to collect passbook. In this way, bank verifies the address. Suppose, I want to open a new bank account in Delhi, as I get the new posting there, but my all identity proofs have the address of Mumbai As I lived here. So, what will I do? For this reason, Bank gives two columns in address option. Communication Address & Permanent Address. Now, this is the form of that fake account which was in the name of Samaira’s. Sir, the permanent address column definitely having the address of Samaira but check the communication address column, its consisting different address. It’s an Apartment address. Here Rana used to live with his late wife Sudha. The neighbor identified him & also Doctor Sarbani Dogra’s patient, Sudha used to live with her husband Rana in the same address. How is it possible? If Samaira can give her identity proofs, cell number, original address in permanent address column, why the hell she will give Nandini Pandey’s driver aka right hand Rana’s address in communication address column? Don’t tell me Sir to confuse us. ( looking towards Sashank) The reason is, whoever made the fake account in the name of Samaira should receive that confirmation letter from bank. So, it’s clear that the account used for terrorist funding is not Samaira’s. She is innocent.
Sashank sighed & ignored the taunt in Arjun’s comments. He proved. There is nothing to question. Now, clearly Arjun is leading the meeting & he becomes a mere listener.
Arjun- Sir, Parmeet was the junior most Officer in my team. So, I sent him to follow two of our prime suspects, Nandini & Rana. I also warned him not to take any risk. But unfortunately he got killed. Ministry doubted that I am involved in his murder…
Anirudh ( Interrupting Arjun in between)- So, you are saying officer that we don’t have any reason to doubt? How can we ignore that sensitive mail?
Arjun- Sir, I am saying nothing like that. But if Higher authority checked the mail carefully then I think I don’t have to face insulting situation like this. Sir, when the mail was sent from Parmeet’s computer, he was not present at office. He was in Khanna Industries following after Nandini & Rana. So, it’s impossible for one person to stay at a same place at a same time. This is Parmeet’s Cell phone location details & you definitely have that mail with you Sir.( he told in a firm tone).
DGP Anirudh DasGupta narrowed his eyes. “IPS Arjun Mehra, Ministry did not completely believe the allegations against you. That’s why you get the four days time to prove yourself & now, you are here in this meeting. So, behave.
Arjun ( in a firm tone)- I am sorry Sir. But it was extremely shameful & insulting for me when my own Department doubts my dedication & honesty. Ministry accused me for the death of my fellow team member, Please, tell me Sir, how can I again get back the honor & trust? I lost my respect. Not only that, I had to face many insulting questions & scandalous accusations regarding Samaira.
Sashank- Now, I get the point, why IPS Arjun Mehra is so hyper? We took his would be wife in our custody for questioning. That’s why. But what to do IPS? We have valid reason.
Arjun ( fuming)- Excuse me Sir. Yes, I & Samaira both have to face many shameful accusations. Why Ministry took so much interest in my personal life? We both are innocent. Now, what Sir? Are you going to apologize to me or Samaira?
Sashank- how dare you IPS Arjun Mehra?
Arjun- We work for Intelligence Bureau. We have powers. But before accusing any one, we need to be sure about his/her involvement. Else, we harass innocents & no one gave us that right. I have enough reason to arrest Zubin from the moment I got his number in Rana’s call list, but I did not. I arrested him only after I get all the proofs against him.
Sashank remained silent but Anirudh interrupted.
Anirudh- Relax Arjun. Now tell me, who killed Parmeet?
Arjun- No idea Sir. Rana’s death is a pitfall for us. Parmeet was after Rana. This Rana met with some Linda Joseph, who is in Interpol most wanted list, & an part of International Smuggling Racket, there she delivered a packet to Rana & then checked out from Hotel Everest. After that Rana met with another man in that under construction building where we found Parmeet’s dead body. I have pictures & video footages in support of my theory.
Anirudh- & how you find out Rana?
Arjun- As Rana destroyed his original SIM card, it was difficult for me to find him out. But see the pattern of delivering the packet, it was sure, he must took another SIM to contact with Linda & that other man. Linda is a foreigner. So, she must definitely took a local number to stay in touch with Rana. I checked the record of Hotel Everest. There Linda gave a local number in their register. I get call details of that number.There were only three numbers in the list. First one, a taxi service number & others two numbers are fake. So, I took out the call records of those two numbers. Parmeet was following Rana. So, both their call locations would be same. One number detail matched with Parmeet, whose last recorded location was Station Road. So, that must be surely the new number of Rana.
Anirudh- Excellent IPS Arjun Mehra. Great job. This is a finest example of how to investigate. Welcome to “Mission Chaturanga. You are back again in your position. We are dropping all the charges against you & Samaira Khanna. In fact, Ministry is issuing a special notice to declare that all the charges against you are false & you were being framed.
Arjun closed his eyes. After the success, his hands are sweating & shaking. He was relieved. He did it. He proved it. He composed himself and confidently looked towards DGP Anirudh.
Arjun- Thank You sir. But I can’t ignore an important aspect that a confidential information was leaked from my office. It’s a serious security breach.
Anirudh- Yes. I agree Officer. Be careful from now on & look after this matter. By the way, I want you to make a report of this meeting, attach all proofs & send it to me.
Arjun nodded his head. But suddenly Inspector General Sashank Bhargav spoke in a very low tone.
Sashank- Congrats IPS Arjun Mehra. But still I have some queries, like, why only you & Samaira Khanna get targeted? & why you did not inform your higher Authority that you get some clues regarding Samaira Khanna’s involvement?
Arjun- Sir, I don’t get enough time to inform my higher authority. I was injured & was in hospital. Now, coming to the motive. Why Samaira is being targeted? We all know Samaira Khanna is the real owner of Khanna Industries. There were already two attempts to kill her. Though the fake account was created before the attempts. If by any chance, the RDX get caught by Police, & they investigate. Whom they will caught? Samaira, who is nowhere involved with Khanna Industries then & not staying with Samrat Khanna.
Anirudh nodded his head, accepting Arjun’s theory.
Arjun- & why me? Well, may be, someone is too jealous on me. ( with a smirk)
Sashank also smirked looking at him.
Anirudh- meeting over officers. Now, both of you dismissed.
Arjun- Sir, I have a request. Please grant me leave for a week.
Anirudh- Purpose?
Arjun- My marriage.
Anirudh remained silent for some time. ” Mail me your leave application. I will see.
Sashank Bhargav sighed. He also wants to appreciate IPS Arjun Mehra for his analysis power. He has no personal gauge against him. But he can’t help. He is doomed.
