Chetan Bhagat reacts to the leaked WhatsApp chats shared by Urfi Javed from the time he was embroiled in the #MeToo controversy
Chetan Bhagat recently reacted to the screenshots of leaked WhatsApp chats that have been shared by Urfi Javed from the time he was embroiled in the #MeToo controversy. The popular writer took to Twitter and called it all nothing but lies. He also made it clear that he has got nothing to do with it.
He wrote, “Have never spoken to/chatted with/met/ known someone where it’s being spread that I have done so. It’s fake. a lie. Also a Non issue. Haven’t criticised anyone. And I also think there’s nothing wrong in telling people to stop wasting time on Instagram and focus on fitness and career.”

For the unversed, Chetan Bhagat commented about Urfi Javed’s social media shares during a literature festival recently. He said, “Phone has been a great distraction for the youth, especially the boys, spending hours just watching Instagram Reels. Everyone knows who Uorfi Javed is. What will you do with her photos? Is it coming in your exams or you will go for a job interview and tell the interviewer that you know all her outfits?”
“On one side, there is a youth who is protecting our nation at Kargil and on another side, we have another youth who is seeing Uorfi Javed’s photos hiding in their blankets,” he added.
Now Urfi had a different take on what Chetan said and she accused him of “promoting rape culture”. She wrote, “Stop promoting rape culture you sickos out there! Blaming a woman’s clothes for the behaviour of men is so 80’s mr @chetanbhagat. Who was distracting you when you messaged girls half of your age? Always blame the opposite gender, never accept your own shortcomings or faults! People like you are misguiding the youth, not me. Encouraging men to put the blame on the woman or her clothing when they are at fault.”

I’m quite confused, what does critisising lazy people who waste their lives on Instagram have to do with critisising Uorfi’s outfits? It seems like this article has been coined by joining parts of 2 different articles. Either the topics don’t match or Uorfi is making an unnecessary drama out of unrelated things. She speaks the right words, at the wrong time.
