Prologue
“Mama, get up. Pia didi tickled me in my ear with poochi’s tail.” I felt someone shake me hard.
“No Mom, I did not tickle Nia. Dad told me to wake her.”
Urgh! Who the hell let this Nia and Pia into the room?
“Sahil!” I shouted as I opened my eyes. On my bed were two little girls. The younger one was holding a stuffed cat and had her eyes brimming with tears.
“Why are you screaming for Sahil Mamu? Mama, we dropped him at the airport yesterday.”The little one wiping her tears replied.
“Then who let you into the house?”
The two of them looked at me surprised.
“Mom, Dad is making breakfast. You better come down fast. Today, the entire family is coming for lunch.” Replied the elder one. She put the headphones that were hanging around her neck onto her head and walked out.
“I am going to have some bread and Jam.” The younger one bubbled.
I slowly got out of the bed.
Mom? Mama? Whose room was I in?
What did I drink yesterday? I remembered Ishana and I walking into the club. I had finished getting all the arrangements for SSO’s engagement.
I looked around the room. There were many pictures of the two girls. Then on a wall was a whole lot of certificates.
One of them read:
This Honours Certificate is awarded to
Annika Oberoi
for Successfully Completing Bachelors’ Degree in English Literature.
Okay now, that was scary. I did not know SSO level English. Also Oberoi? I did not have a surname. Certainly not one like Oberoi.
I walked downstairs and my legs nearly buckled when I saw the picture of the couple above the mantlepiece. Was I going mad?
