Valmiki community is Punjab is objecting to the content of Colors’ mythological show Ram Siya ke Luv Kush. In a shocking turn of events, the community had called for a Punjab Bandh to protest for the same and has requested the court to ban the screening of the show. The community says that the show is showing objectionable content as it has nothing to do with the real story.
During the protests on Saturday itself, a youth was shot at and had to operated for the same. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday night ordered an immediate ban on the telecast. Seeing the mishaps, the District Commissioners started acting swiftly on the orders and stopped the telecast of the show with immediate effect.
Now, the recent development on the case suggests that High Court has refused to lift ban on Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush. The Punjab High Court adjourned the case for the next hearing on September 12. A special hearing too was arranged on a petition filed by Colors TV to lift the ban. But Justice T.S. Dhindsa declined to grant a stay on the order passed by various District Commissioners in their capacity as District Magistrates.
Additional Advocate General Rameeza Hakeem informed that the ban is being seeked on the basis that Rishi Valmiki had been portrayed in a negative light and that’s the reason the sentiments of Valmiki community had been hurt. The channel also placed on record an offer from the producers of the serial to enter a dialogue with the Home Secretary to discuss the contentious scenes.They said and willingly offered to delete the scenes that portrayed Rishi Valmiki in objectionable light.
