Yeh pehla pehla pyaar hai.. meraaa 🙂
He had become a mad man. Just because of her. He wasn’t getting enough sleep,he wasn’t eating well, he even kept daydreaming in his cubicle. Having a frustated expression on his face, he ran his hands through his locks, quite irritated. He was sitting in his office and had ordered coffee for the nth time. But even his all time favourite hot beverage wasn’t successful in keeping him focused on his work. Sighing, he thought, had he really fallen in love with Dr Bose? Or was it just infatuation? No. Hell no. It was something he dreaded accepting. He couldn’t do this. This was very wrong. He was engaged to Natasha. He couldn’t do this to her. But.. but he just couldn’t get his mind off Sona. Holding his head in his hands, he ran to the washroom and splashed some water on his face. He then looked at the mirror.
What!? What the heck was Sonakshi doing here!? He thought to himself.
She smiled at him and said, ‘You have fallen in love with me Dev babu. You can’t run away from it now. Its too late. You’ve fallen deeply. Very deeply.’ She said and winked at him.
He wiped his face exasperatingly and again looked at the mirror. Oh gosh! Where’d she go!? Ugh. Great. Now he was hallucinating about her too. Jesus, what had he gotten himself into!? He ran out of the washroom, grabbed his keys, and headed out of the building. It was now or never. He had to do this or else he will ruin 2 lives.
On the traffic lights, he saw a little girl selling roses.
He called her, smiled at her and asked,
‘How much does one rose cost sweety?’
‘One Rose costs about 10 Rupees Sahab!’ (sir) She said with hope brimming in her eyes.
He looked at her sadly and immediately took out his wallet and fished out half the money kept inside.
‘Keep all of it and just give me one Rose beta.’ (child) He said, flashing his oh so charming smile at the cute little girl.
‘Thank you so much Sahab. Now I’ll be able to eat a decent meal and buy a book as well.’ She said with such a smile on her face which would definitely melt your heart.
Dev smiled and pulled her cheeks. As he looked at her retreating figure, He sighed. He had seen what life was when you had to revolt for even a single meal to eat. Poor kid. He knew what poverty was. He had had very dreadful experiences in his childhood as well. He had seen his mother struggling to make the ends meet. He still feels guilty for not letting his sister complete her education. When he was 10, How he really had wished to have enough money so that Neha could study. But god wasn’t being kind during those times. They only had that much money which could make a single child study. Nikki was a baby, while Riya wasn’t that old either. So Neha, being the eldest sister, had to quit her studies so that he could study and also as there was no one available to look after the baby sisters as their mother was always busy with work. His father’s death had taken a toll on the whole family, but it taught him one thing; to work hard and the money – saving policy. Who knew what the future was gonna hold!? Had his mother known that her husband was gonna die unexpectedly she would have started saving up way early. He studied day and night and worked really hard to reach where he was now. But it were the sacrifices his sister and mother made which really were the reason behind the empire he has built. He put all his blood and sweat in it and kept on working hard without enjoying his college, plus school life. But he doesn’t regret it at all hen he sees the happy and proud faces of his sisters and his mother. Shaking his head smilingly, He wiped his moist eyes and drove ahead.
After parking his car, he headed into the Ishwari Niwas, straight away went to his room, leaving Ishwari and Nikki confused, who were sitting in the drawing room, watching T.V. .
He went up, and taking in a sharp breathe, called Natasha.
‘Hello?’
‘Hey Dev. How are you? Is everything alright?
‘Nothing is alright Natasha. Meet me at Amigos Cafè in 20. I have to confess something really important.
‘But-‘
‘Please Natasha. I’ll answer all your queries. Just be there.’
‘Ok. See you in a bit.’
As she hanged up, he sighed. He hoped she was gonna take this positively. How could he marry her if he didn’t love her or wouldn’t ever be able to? He had to do this. He had to do this for her good as well as his before the situation got out of hand. He knew Gujral wasn’t going to cancel the deal even if this engagement broke off as he knew how professional he was. The engagement was just a bonus he had accepted. Had he known he was going to.. well fall in love.. he would’ve never.
On the other hand, just a single thought of Sonakshi made him all goofy. He smiled like an idiot. Getting up, he opened his closet and rummaged through it trying to find his orange shirt. He pulled it out, again smiling like a lovesick teenager. Quickly changing into it, he ran out and again ignored Ishwari and Nikki who were really surprised, after watching him in an orange shirt.
‘O.M.G. Bhaiya wearing a frigging Orange shirt!? This is major news!’ As she ran away to tell this very suprising piece of news to Neha and Riya, Ishwari stood there, all confused.
‘I hope everything is ok. He has been behaving quite weirdly lately. And an Orange shirt!? Totally not his favourite. Weird. Really weird. I am gonna ask him about all this now. I hope he’s alright.’
She thought, with a worried expression on her face.
At Amigos cafè,
He sat on the table adjacent to the window. It was raining. As he watched the raindrops slide down the window intently, Natasha, who had reached the cafe, saw him and cleared her throat.
‘Oh, h-hi! How are you?’ Dev said, smiling uncomfortably.
‘I’m good and what about you? You called me here and told me you aren’t feeling good and have something serious to share? Tell me. What happened Dev?
Natasha asked folding her arms across her chest. When suddenly, the waiter interrupted them asking for their orders. He ordered a capuccino while she ordered an espresso.
‘Natasha, I’m really sorry.’ Dev said, not being able to look her in the eye.
‘Dev, you’re scaring me, what do you wanna tell? Spill.’ Natasha asked, with a worried expression on her face, it was as if she knew what Dev was gonna talk about. She somewhere knew it but really hoped it wasn’t what she was thinking about.
‘I can’t marry you Natasha. I’m in love with someone else. I’m really sorry.’ He said, looking down.
‘Its Dr Bose isn’t it? She said, smiling sadly.
‘Y-yes. But h-how did you know that? He asked, his eyes wide as saucers.
‘It was very clear with the way you were behaving around her from the past few days.’ She said looking him straight in the eyes.
‘But I didn’t bother asking because I thought I was just imagining things and all. But …’ She sighed dully.
‘And I think she loves you too.
‘What!? What makes you say that?’ He asked nervously, trying to take process what she had just said.
‘You really are an idiot Dev. Have you ever observed her behaviour around yourself!? I was being selfish. I like you Dev, that’s why I just didn’t wanna point it out. But I am glad, that you came to me on time. If you hadn’t confessed right now, maybe it could’ve gone out of our hands and our lives would’ve been ruined.’ She said, while fidgeting with the ring in her finger.’ I was being immature.. and well I really started liking you so much. But I guess it wasn’t meant to be.. right?’ She said chuckling humourlessly.
‘Here take this, this belongs to someone else.’ She said, taking the engagement ring off her finger and putting it in his hand.
He looked at her and sighed in relief. This went more smoothly, than he thought it would go.
‘Now what are you looking at!? Go! Tell her that you love her! Gooo!’ She said, pushing him out of his chair.
‘O-ok I’m going. And again, I’m really sorry Natasha.’ He said, feeling guilty.’It’s okay. This was gonna happen at some point of time. I just didn’t want to acknowledge it and pretended like everything was alright. But you know na, If it’s not meant to be, it just isn’t.’ She said, sighing heavily.
‘I hope you find someone who values your feelings and loves you dearly Nats. Good luck. I hope I don’t lose you as a friend. Stay in touch alright? Dev said, trying to make up for the hurt he had caused her.
‘Yeah yeah sure. Now go before it’s too late. Gooooo!’ She shouted.
He ran out smiling crazily, while she sighed, her eyes glazed with tears, looking at the heavy rain pouring down in Delhi.
