Actress Kanika Maheshwari became a household name with her stint in ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’. But then she was on a sabbatical and now she is all set to return to the small screen after a gap of four years. Last seen in ‘Tu Sooraj, Main Saanjh Piyaji’, she will now be seen essaying a pivotal part in ‘Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye’, a period drama set in 1947 by Sony Tv.

Kanikais elated to be back on Tv. In an interview with TOI, she said, “I am coming back on screen after a gap. So, I am really excited about returning to the sets and doing what I love most — acting. I will be playing a negative character of a widow, who is never happy with anything. I am particularly excited about my look on the show, which is different from how I have looked in my previous shows. It’s a colourful character with no colours on me.”

The actress had to learn Punjabi for her part. “If you ask me, it’s quite a challenging character. I had to learn Punjabi for it, which added to the challenge. Having said that, it’s always fun to learn a new language.”

This will be her third collaboration with Shashi and Sumeet Mittal, who also produced ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ and ‘Tu Sooraj, Main Saanjh Piyaji’. Kanika also made a cameo appearance in their show, ‘Dil Se Dil Tak’.
