Actor James Michael Tyler, who became a household name with his role of Gunther in F.R.I.E.N.D.S passed away at the age of 59. His manager released a statement where he said, “Tyler passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.” James is survived by his wife, Jennifer Carno.” he added.
James was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018 which later spread to his bones.
His manager talked about it and shared “Wanting to help as many people as possible, he bravely shared his story and became a campaigner for those with a prostate to get a… blood test as early as 40-years-old,”.
He added, “The world knew him as Gunther (the seventh Friend)… but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and loving husband”.
James recently made a brief appearance on the Friends reunion episode via Zoom call where he said, “It was the most memorable 10 years of my life, honestly,” the actor said at the time of the show. “I could not have imagined just a better experience,” he said. “All these guys were fantastic and just a joy to work with. It felt very, very special.”
Warner Bros Television, one of the co-producers of F.R.I.E.N.D.S paid their tribute to James and shared, “a beloved actor and integral part of our Friends family”.
