Ch.5 – The Ring
“Give me the keys.” The guy willingly handed his bike keys to Fiza. Just as she was about to get on the bike her phone rang.
“Where…”
“Faizu guess who I just saw?”
“Ms.Roy and Mr.Chopra?”
“No! Something even better.”
“Ms.Singh on a date?”
“Noo idiot! Sumedh! I just saw him with his dad. I couldn’t meet him though.”
“Sumedh is back!?” Faisal was happy for the most part but a hint of worry played in his voice.
“Yeah. And I am gonna meet him. So byee.”
“Wait! Fiza don’t…”
“Sorry I have to leave or I will lose their car…bye bye bye…” She cut the call and sped across, following the black sedan.
Scene Shift:Restaurant
“Mumma where did you get this dress from? You know you are wasting too much on his new date of yours. All those shopping trips, dresses, and now this restaurant. It seems too expensive.” Anya complained looking around as they sat at a table smack in the middle of the high end restaurant.
“Anya don’t think too much. Tell me do I look okay?” Astha asked touching her hair.
“Mumma all this for a guy?” Anya was a little disturbed to see her that way. “And why am I here in the middle of your date.”
“Okay fine I will tell you. I and…”
“Coach?” Anya saw him approaching them along with Sumedh behind him. Her mother stood up immediately.
A few tables away…
“So did you like this place? Isn’t it nice Ronak? It took me 2 whole months to get a reservation. Its super hard you know.” Riya kept on chattering.
“Riya we started dating 2 weeks ago.” Ronak sighed. ” I am sorry to do it this way but I don’t think its working out between us. I am sorry but its over.” The guy stood up and walked off.
“Ronak wait. Listen to me!” She followed him out but he vanished. She was on the verge of crying.
“Ooohh…Got dumped on Valentine’s Day??? Sad…” Fiza mocked Riya as she got off her bike.
“No who said?”
“He just ran off leaving you behind.”
“Well that’s because…umm…I dumped him!” Riya said emphasizing the I. “So he got mad and left without paying his bill.” She made up a story.
“Whatever” Fiza was unconvinced. She walked behind one of the trees and saw Sumedh along with his dad and 2 ladies sitting at a distance. She spied on them from behind the tree.
Riya went up to her. “What are you doing here? Spying on your ex?”
“Sssshh…I am in the middle of a mission.” Fiza said then turned back to figure out who the girls were. Riya also peeked in the direction Fiza was looking at.
“Anya??” She almost yelled in shock seeing her friend.
“Shut up!” Fiza covered her mouth. “Who’s Anya?” She whispered curiously.
“My best friend. And that’s her mom. But who are the other two? They look familiar.”
“That’s coach and his son.” Fiza said but regretted it a second later.
“Coach?? And he has a son?? Wait…That guy. I saw him today. Oh my god! That’s Sumedh! Wait, Sumedh is coach’s son?? Don’t tell me they are out here on a DOUBLE DATE!”
Fiza tried her best controlling Riya before someone sees them and kicks them out. “Just watch quietly.” She told Riya and they turned their focus back to the four figures.
Scene Shift: Center Table 20 Minutes Later
“I know this might be very awkward for you kids but we wanted to include you in this decision.” Jethley Sir said looking at Anya and Sumedh who sat opposite each other like statues.
The minute they sat at the table no one had talked. So they adults tried to strike a conversation and got busy in it themselves. Once they started the kids were left out, awkwardly witnessing their parents romance. They had been tortured for the past 20 minutes.
Riya and Fiza sat at Riya’s table still watching them as if they were on a secret mission.
Sumedh finally broke the silence, “I am sorry for being rude but will you tell me what’s going on? I just got back and you drag me on your date. This isn’t some meet and greet. It’s your date so why bring us here?” He asked both the adults, talking for Anya as well.
“You know its hella weird to sit with your own dad and his girlfriend in the middle of a romantic date. And worse is that she also brought her daughter along, who by the way, is your student and my classmate!” Sumedh’s tone got nastier. Anya found him very rude but what he said was true. Their parents were totally out of their mind.
“Is this some family picnic?” Fiza wondered watching them.
“Who knows.” Riya replied.
“We are sorry to bring you both along like this. Sumedh it was my luck that you came back at the right time. Otherwise it would have only been Anya to decide our fate.” Jethley looked at Astha who blinked assuringly. He continued, “Both of you mean a lot to us so before we go forward with anything we want to tell you. Knowing that your lives will be affected by any decision we take. So whatever we say, you guys have the full right to say no.”
Sumedh worried as to where this conversation was heading. Anya was tensed. She picked up a glass of water and gulped it slowly. Both of their parents stood up facing them.
“We love each other…” Astha confessed.
“And we have decided to get married.” Jethley Sir completed the sentence then took a ring out.
Anya sprayed the water she was drinking. Sumedh and her both stood up together, yelling, “MARRY!”
Riya and Fiza also stood up hearing the word their friends said. “Now this is news.” Fiza took out her phone, recording the scene.
“Yes. Marry. But only if both of you agree.” Jethley Sir kept the ring in the middle of the table. Sumedh and Anya simply stared at it.
