Shafaq Naaz, who is currently essaying the role of Shruti in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, is upset with the unrealistic beauty standards set in showbiz. During a recent interview the actress shared how actresses are under the constant pressure of maintaining their bodies.
Shafaq said, “I don’t understand these beauty standards of the industry where an actress has to look a certain way. She has to be slim all the time. I can understand if the storyline requires a certain body type, but that shouldn’t be the case all the time. It can affect the mental health of actors to be constantly under the lens for their looks.”
Talking about the time when she has gone through similar experiences, she shared, “Once I was at an audition where they clearly told me that they couldn’t cast me because I had put on some weight. I was shocked to realize that even just a few kilos matter when it comes to getting work. I can’t imagine what other girls who are chubby or heavy go through on a daily basis. Some time ago, I was going through some health issues due to which I gained weight. That made me feel very conscious about my own body for the first time. This happened because we actors feel the pressure constantly.”
She added, “It can take a toll when you experience such things. I feel that an actor can be of any age or size but if he/ she is a good performer, then that shouldn’t matter at all. I have never been conscious about myself and I am comfortable in my own skin, but lately, I have also been thinking about it. We need to get over these unrealistic beauty standards set in showbiz.”
Shafaq is also known for her role in shows like Chidiya Ghar, Mahabharat, and Devi Adi Parashakti.
