Television actress Dalljiet Kaur has been locked in a legal battle with her estranged husband, Nikhil Patel, for several months. New details have emerged from Telly Talk India, shedding light on how the drama began and why Kaur took the legal route, despite marrying Patel while he was still not divorced from his first wife.
According to a source who spoke to Telly Talk India, the legal dispute started in Kenya when Nikhil Patel allegedly told Dalljiet, “Take your belongings, or I will donate them to charity.” This statement prompted Kaur to file a case to protect her possessions, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings in Kenya. The source explained, “Nikhil’s lawyers argued, ‘Since your marriage wasn’t official, we’re disposing of all the items.’ Dalljiet pleaded with the Court, asserting her status as his wife, so her belongings shouldn’t be discarded so carelessly.”
In response, the Kenyan court issued a stay order, preventing Patel from discarding Kaur’s belongings. However, when Dalljiet attempted to retrieve her items, she was denied entry into their home.
Reports suggest that a watchman informed her that there was a criminal proceeding against her, preventing her from accessing the house. The source further revealed, “The society manager told her that her belongings had already been removed from the house by Nikhil. It was an incredibly humiliating experience for her.”
Nikhil and a friend allegedly witnessed the entire ordeal from a distance, taking pictures of Dalljiet as she attempted to enter the society. Following this, the Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon actress went to a Kenyan police station, where she presented photographs to prove her marriage. Police discovered that Patel had moved her belongings into storage without her consent. When Kaur’s friends and family later retrieved her items, they found that only her clothes had been placed in storage, with the more valuable items missing.
The source also clarified why Dalljiet chose to marry Patel, even though his divorce was not finalized. Although their marriage was not officially registered due to Patel’s ongoing divorce, Kaur was assured that the divorce was near completion. “The statement has been altered, but the truth is that his divorce was signed and uncontested. The only thing pending was the decree, which would allow them to register the marriage,” the source stated. Dalljiet was reportedly given a written letter by Patel’s lawyer, promising that the marriage would be officially registered and the adoption process honored once the decree was finalized. Both Nikhil and his ex-wife had already signed the divorce papers.
Nikhil Patel’s parents were also reportedly involved in the wedding, staying at Dalljiet’s house for several days and assuring her parents of their support.
Earlier this month (August), Dalljiet shared an update on the ongoing court hearing in Kenya through a social media post, detailing the legal proceedings. However, she later decided to delete the post.
