Gashmeer Mahajani, who gained widespread acclaim for his role as Abhimanyu, a revenge-driven gambler in “Imlie,” left fans heartbroken when he decided to exit the show after a successful stint.
In a revealing interview with Siddharth Kannan, Mahajani discussed why he chose to leave “Imlie.” He clarified that his departure was not due to unfulfilled demands but rather a personal decision. “I was on a one-year contract and didn’t want to continue in a daily soap,” he explained. He believes that the essence of a daily soap’s storyline typically concludes within fifty to a hundred episodes, after which it continues primarily for profit.
Gashmeer shared that the show’s producer, Gul Khan, asked him to extend his stay by two months to allow the team to develop a new plotline. She pointed out that a sudden departure would impact the livelihoods of many people involved in the production. Recognizing this, Gashmeer agreed to stay for the additional time, which helped the show transition smoothly. Notably, when he left, “Imlie” boasted a high TRP rating of 3.4.
Despite his exit, Gashmeer maintains a strong relationship with Gul Khan, emphasizing that their bond remains unaffected.
Gashmeer also addressed speculation about his on-screen chemistry with co-star Sumbul Touqeer. While acknowledging the potential for their chemistry to make history if he had stayed longer, he emphasized his career growth after participating in “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10.” He prefers exploring new roles and content within his acting career span of fifteen to twenty years. Gashmeer fondly remembers working with Sumbul, praising her talent and friendship.
Gashmeer Mahajani has been a part of several hit shows including “Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal,” “Imlie,” and “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10.” His next appearance will be in Rohit Shetty’s action-packed reality show, “Khatron Ke Khiladi 14.”
