Honoring a Legacy: Matthew Perry Foundation Launched to Aid Those Battling Addiction

In memory of the late “Friends” star, Matthew Perry, The Matthew Perry Foundation has been established to provide assistance to individuals grappling with addiction. The actor passed away at the age of 54 on October 28 at his Los Angeles residence, with the cause of death yet to be determined by the L.A. coroner’s office.

The foundation, inspired by Matthew Perry’s unwavering commitment to supporting those facing the challenges of addiction, aims to honor his legacy. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the foundation expressed its dedication to following Perry’s own words and experiences, driven by his fervor to make a positive impact on as many lives as possible.

Renowned for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom “Friends,” Perry was candid about his personal struggles with drug and alcohol abuse. Overcoming addiction to Vicodin, he sought rehabilitation in 2001. In a testament to his commitment, Perry transformed his former Malibu residence into the Perry House, a sober living facility that operated until 2015.

The Matthew Perry Foundation operates as a donor-advised fund, sponsored and maintained by the National Philanthropic Trust. As it takes its first steps, the foundation stands as a tribute to Perry’s dedication to helping others confront and overcome the challenges of addiction.
