Episode 8 –
“I don’t know what was Sayi talking to that Aniket. What’s the need to make male friends?” thought Virat
“No…no, Virat Chavan! How could you even think like that? How can you stop your wife to make male friends when you yourself have many female colleagues and friends? Friendship is based on views, ideologies and respect… Not gender.” He sternly reminded himself.
Suddenly he heard a knock on the door, and it was his best female friend – Ishita.
Ishita : Mr. Virat Chavan, if you’re busy then I may come sometime later.
Her soft but loud voice entered his ears and a smile crept. He opened the door.
“Ishita, you are here? Do you need anything?” asked Virat
“Huh! What to say now? I came here to have a conversation with you. But you’re asking me what I need. So let me tell you, I need the time of my best friend.”
Virat : Sure, come in. Let’s chat. Afterall, we hadn’t spend even half and hour.
Ishita : Shut up, idiot. I came here to call you so that we both can talk while sitting in hall. Not in your room. Even Sayi is not here. It won’t feel good if I come to talk to you in your room. Come on, let’s have a coffee in hall.
He smiled a bit, moved by her speech. They both sat in hall and had a loads of conversations.

It’s indeed a bliss talking to Virat. He is sensible and also a good speaker. The fact is that I can sit whole day speaking and listening to him. He is not only my good friend but also a brother-figure in my life. I didn’t had any brother, but from childhood, I had learned the meaning of this relationship because of Virat. He is really my twin. We were talking but I could sense him looking at his watch for every five minutes. This was the thing which bothered me. Finally annoyed by his this behaviour, I asked him.
Â
“Virat, if you are conscious about your sleeping…you can go and sleep” I told him softly
“No, no…”
He was about to complete the sentence but I interrupted.
“What no, Virat? I can see – you’re looking your watch thousands of times. I cannot bear that my friend is spoiling his sleep because of me” I told him a bit rudely – I guess
Virat took a pause for a second and looked down as if he was feeling guilty, but at no time he continued.
Virat : I am sorry, Ishu. I didn’t meant to hurt you. Actually tomorrow is my and Sayi’s anniversary, so I was just checking the time… You know, I want to be there at exactly ’12’, so I need to go at 11:45. And exactly at that time I will be going to surprise her.
Now, this time, it wasn’t he who was guilty… But it was me feeling guilty. I didn’t asked Virat, but I directly or indirectly scolded him. He was gonna wish his wife and I was here talking to him rubbishly.
I lowered my gaze and heard his voice.
“Ishita…What happened?” he asked me in a very gentle tone.
“I am sorry…” I said
“No worries. I don’t mind at all.” He replied with a smile to which I reciprocated.

The windows were open, breezes were free to come and hit her face. Before she could pull herself up from the chair and close the window, she suddenly heard the loud voice which was of thunderstorm. She was quite scared by the voice but nonetheless she’s that fierce Sayi who had even escaped the flood and even saved her neighbours in Gadchiroli. She is an extreme lady with braveness, fierceness and boldness. But prevention is better than cure – she thought. And in no time, it started raining.
She got up to close the window but what she saw was surprising and even amusing.

Virat had always loved the rain. Meanwhile, Sayi was the one who was admiring him through the window. Oblivious Virat was enjoying as if someone had given him freedom of tasting the rain. He was completely drenched. He was there to wish Sayi and also give her the gift, but after coming here he suddenly realised the drops of water ascending from the sky. He became like a small child completely forgotten for what he came. It was Sayi who was oblivious to the fact that she was smiling while admiring him.
Dekha hazaron dafa aapko
Phir beqarari kaisi hai
Sambhale sambhalta nahi ye dil
Kuch aap mein baat aisi hai…
And then suddenly, she realised what she was doing. Realising that she was staring him made her feel awkward among herself. She was then about to call Virat, but suddenly she remembered something.

“Baba, please come inside or else you’ll catch cold. Baba, you’re playing in the rain as if you’re a small child” shouted Sayi
“Playing has nothing to do with the age. Sayi bada, you also come. We both father-daughter duo will enjoy in this wonderful rain” exclaimed Kamal Joshi
He was getting completely drenched in rainwater but there was no sign of him stopping. He continued to enjoy those drops of water.
“I recall my baba in Virat Sir” she thought to herself and took out an umbrella and took the leave from her room
She went down only to see Virat spreading his arms wide open beneath the sky. Sayi moved towards him taking umbrella in her hands. As soon as he saw Sayi, his heart got distracted from rain only to stare his wife.
Lekar ijazat ab aap se
Saansein ye aati jaati hain
Dhoondhe se milte nahi hain hum
Bas aap hi aap baaki hain
Sambhale sambhalta nahi yeh dil
Kuch aap mein baat aisi hai…
Sayi : Virat Sir, you’re playing in this heavy rain? Come inside.
Virat moved towards Sayi without uttering a single word. He took the umbrella and threw it to the other side making even Sayi wet like him.
“Virat Sir…”
“You look so beautiful in rain, Sayi” said Virat
“It’s the beauty of your eyes, Virat Sir. Come on, let’s go now” replied Sayi.
She hold her hands trying to take him with her. But he didn’t move. He stood there like a statue which made Sayi quite upset.
Sayi : Virat Sir, did you hear me? Let’s go.
Virat : Let’s play, Sayi. It’s our first rain. On our first anniversary.
He sat down on his knees and hold Sayi’s fingers.
“Happy Anniversary, my beloved wife. I love you so much” he said gently
Sayi was shocked and surprised and actually didn’t knew what to reply. She was the one who forgot their first anniversary. She slightly moved backwards and replied, most probably whispered “Happy Anniversary to you too, Virat Sir”
She didn’t even knew when the rain stopped and her tears started. She thanked the rain that her tears were mixed with the water, but unaware that in this practical and unstable one year, Virat had already knew her each and every shade of mood.
Pal bhar na doori sahein aap se
Betaabiyan yeh kuch aur hain
Hum door hoke bhi paas hain
Nazdeekiyan yeh kuch aur hain
Sambhale sambhalta nahi yeh dil
Kuch aap mein baat aisi hai…
He got up and tried to wipe her tears but she firmly hold her hand and shook her head. She moved backwards, backwards and backwards until Virat couldn’t stop her and then she wildly ran towards her room.
I was astonished as I had never expected such reply from Sayi that too on our wedding anniversary. I think I tried to force my love upon her. No… Never. I just wished her Happy Anniversary, that’s it. Is she thinking it to be a mere deal yet? But she cried, my heart cried.
He opened his hand just to see his destiny and looked up the sky asking the God what’s there in their destiny? He moved towards his car, not knowing what to do. He could have gone upstairs to console Sayi, but the way she held his hands while he was just trying to wipe her tears made him feel as if she didn’t wanted him. These thought echoed in his mind all the way he was driving to the house.
Next Morning ;
Sayi was lying with her closed eyes on the bed. No one could deny the fact that she had sobbed last night – after seeing her face. Those dried tears which started from her eyes travelling all through her face and finally meeting the pillow. But one could find her diary on her pillow which states ;
Baba,
I miss you. Today is our anniversary. Sorry tomorrow. But I cried. Don’t know why! It’s because I love you or it’s because I miss you. It’s been one year, you left me. You had indeed done a great thing by giving my responsibility to Virat Sir. But as I said, giving my responsibility. A responsibility. And yester night, it was Virat Sir who was very happy. I don’t know why! I don’t know why he loves me when he have Pakhi didi beside him. I don’t even know what I am writing. I am just writing. Last year, we made a deal and these year we’re celebrating anniversary of it. Don’t know why, Baba. I always looked at Virat Sir as someone who had just bestowed favours on me. It always seems as if I am a burden on Virat Sir. Baba…
