@Aisha08 Aww thank you so much
@Mary Thank you so much for wonderful insights. Tbh, I feel everyone needs someone like Vansh in their who makes a person realize his worth. It need not necessarily be a boyfriend/husband, it could be anyone – a sibling/friend/parent. I think all of us at some point or the other feel negatively about ourselves, and if we have such caring and positive people around us, it really helps a ton.
@1234Aayu Aww thank you so much. It really means a lot to me (^hearts^).
@Priyanka Thakur Thank you so much
@Frozen Hidden Thanks a lot. Haha, chalo maaf kiya, par next time nahi karungi (hehe just kidding, lol). Don’t worry, I never keep any target because jitna bhi response aata hai, main ussi mein khush hojati hoon.
@FARHANA Thank you so much. Happy to see you emjoying it.
@Riansh1212 Aww thank you so much! Tbh, I’m at a loss of words right now after reading your compliments (^hearts^). I’m really feeling overwhelmed right now. Lots of love to you too!!
@Neha Deswal Thank you so much. That really means a lot to me. I’m really sorry, but I can’t update it everyday. Hope you understand.
@Sweety21 Thanks a lot
@Qt Thank you so much. Happy to see you enjoying it. Yeah, I have a thing for romances that grow on slowly and steadily. I don’t like the rushed ones.
@Parita Thank you so much. Loved to read your insights into it. I think as girls, since childhood we are always told how beauty holds an imporant place (which I don’t exactly agree with) in our lives by the society. That is one of the reasons I feel why a girl tends to be more conscious about her face than a guy.
@Ayesha Thank you dear
@Jazvine Kaur Aww thanks a lot. Take many more hearts in return from my side!
@Neetu Thank you dear
@Jiya Hey, many many happy returns of the day (sorry for being a little late though)
@Riaa Thanks a lot. Glad to see you enjoying it!

Riddhima was sitting by the pool, leaving her legs to dangle in the cool water, in an attempt to relax herself.
But her mind was otherwise flooded with thoughts from all the preceding events – Vansh consoling her, Kabir arriving at the party, Angre disclosing the truth in front of her.

Soon, Vansh came out of nowhere and sat beside her, crossing his legs. As soon as he did that, Riddhima got up and turned to leave.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“To my room. I’m feeling sleepy,” she remarked.

He narrowed his eyes at her.
“Are you trying to avoid me?”

“Yeah, something like that….”

Vansh came in front of her and blocked her path.
“Are you still upset with me? I thought that things had been sorted between us…”

“WHEN exactly did we sort it out? I can’t seem to remember it,” Riddhima retorted. “If you thought that just by helping and consoling me around, I would forgive you, then you are so very wrong. Isn’t it hypocritical on your part to expect others to forgive you easily, when you yourself don’t?”

Vansh grew desperate. “Please Riddhima, for God’s sake, just end this matter now! I know what I did was completely wrong, but I am really sorry for that. Till when will you punish me like this?”

He held her shoulders. “Why don’t you understand, that your ignorance hurts me like hell? I can’t bear it any longer.
Tell me, what must I do to obtain your forgiveness?”

A ghost of a smile crept upon Riddhima’s lips. “Are you sure you can do anything for my forgiveness? Be careful before making any hasty promises.”

“I’ll do anything,” said Vansh.

Riddhima pondered for a while.
“Alright! You’d have to listen to each and everything I say, for the next two days. Is that fine?”

Vansh looked at her skeptically. What was exactly going on in that troublesome mind of hers?

“Fine. But I have a condition. You can’t make me do anything that goes against my rule-book, or anything that can have an adverse effect upon our relation,” he said.

Riddhima said excitedly, “Okay, done. Your punishment will start from tomorrow. And Vansh…” she looked at him pointedly. “Don’t disappoint me.”

“I won’t,” he whispered.

“This man always loves to punish others, right. Now it will be fun to see him carry out his share of punishment,” she thought happily.

The next day when the Raisinghanias were seated at the breakfast table, Angre came up to Vansh.
“Boss, we have two meetings lined up for today. Our first client wants the meeting to be conducted as soon as possible, preferably within an hour.”

“Postpone all the meetings. Vansh won’t be attending office today,” Riddhima said out of the blue.

Everyone looked at her stunned.

“What is this stupid girl doing? Now Bhai will teach her a lesson for trying to do something like this,” thought Ishani.

Vansh became angry, and opened his mouth to say something, when Riddhima leaned in closer to him.
“Remember our pact yesterday? You had promised something to me….”

Vansh’s expressions changed as he remembered it. Taking a deep breath, he said, “Angre, postpone all my meetings for the next two days.”

Angre was equally surprised. But he quietly nodded and left from there.

The rest of the family understood what was going on, and started giggling. However, Anupriya and Chanchal weren’t very happy to witness this.

“Ahem, ahem! Cancelling all your meetings to spend time with your ladylove. How romantic!” teased Sia.

Vansh glared at her and she shut up immediately.

Riddhima was plating out her food, when Vansh suddenly caught her hand under the table.

“Vansh Rainsinghania never breaks his promise,” he whispered. “And is this my punishment that I take you out on a date? Well, if you give me such kind of pleasant punishments, then I’ll be inclined to commit many more mistakes like this.”

Riddhima smiled and tried to free her hand.
“Vansh, leave my hand before anybody else sees this.”

“I am holding my fiancee’s hand, not any random woman’s, that anyone would have a problem with,” he said playfully.

“Riddhima, can you pass me the jug of milk please?” Gayatri asked suddenly.

With her left hand being firmly held by Vansh, Riddhima struggled to reach for the jug with her right hand.

“I can’t reach it, Nani,” said Riddhima.

“Use your other hand, beta.

With Vansh showing no signs of leaving her hand, or even helping her with this, she decided to throw him under the bus.

Riddhima said innocently, “But how can I use the other hand when Vansh is holding it so tightly?”

Vansh let go off her hand with a jerk, while the others tried to stifle a laugh.
He clearly felt embarrassed when they looked at him teasingly.

Riddhima raised her eyebrows at Vansh, challengingly.
“Don’t try to mess with me, again,” she whispered.

Gayatri on the other hand was elated to see the couple having their share of fun with each other.

“May God always keep you both happy like this,” she said.

After the breakfast was done, Vansh pulled Riddhima aside.

“You didn’t do good by embarrassing me like that in front of everyone,” he grinned.

“And you didn’t do good by holding my hand in front of everyone,” Riddhima chuckled.

Vansh said, “Never mind. So where would you like to go for the date? Candle-light dinner at a restaurant, or a long drive through the outskirts, or…..”

“Amusement park,” said Riddhima.

Vansh was taken aback. “A date in an amusement park??”

“Yes, a date with your daughter! Nandu has been wanting to visit the amusement park since a long time,” said Riddhima in glee.

“What the hell! I thought we were going to spend some together and clear our differences….”

“You are so shameless, Vansh,” she scolded him. “When it was about taking your fiancee to a date, your heart was overflowing with excitement. And now when you are supposed to spend some time with your daughter instead, your face has fallen. I tell you, all men are the same!”

Vansh turned furious. “I know very well what you are trying to do, but this is all rubbish and useless.”

Just then, Nandu ran up to them, all ready and prepped up for the outing.
“I am ready. Let’s go!”

“Aww, you look so cute,” said Riddhima pulling her cheeks. “I wish I could eat you up!”

Nandu took one glance at Vansh and quickly turned towards Riddhima.

“He is looking so angry right now. I don’t want to go with him alone. I’m sure he’ll start shouting at me,” Nandu said in a low voice.

“Don’t worry, Nandu. Your Papa has promised me that he won’t scold or yell at you. He will even participate in all the fun activities along with you. After all, Vansh Raisinghania doesn’t break his promise, right?” said Riddhima glaring at Vansh.

“You are not doing this right, Riddhima,” said Vansh sternly.

“To earn someone’s forgiveness, not only is a person supposed to work hard, but also he is supposed to forego his ego and show immense patience. Let’s see if you have it in you to do all that,” said Riddhima.

Vansh made a face and reluctantly left with Nandu for the park.

Gayatri who was observing all this came towards Riddhima and said, “I’m so proud of you, beta. You are trying to mend Vansh’s and Nandu’s relation, without having any personal benefit for yourself.”

“We can’t keep looking for our personal benefits in everything we do,” said Riddhima. “I just hope that I become successful in bringing Vansh closer to Nandu.”

Gayatri patted her head. “Any good deed done with a hopeful and pure heart, will never get wasted.”

“Riddhima! Riddhima!”

Riddhima hurriedly raced down the steps, only to find Vansh red with fury, and a crying Nandu trailing behind him.

“What happened Vansh? How come you guys are back so soon?” she enquired.

He grabbed her arms in a fit of anger, and screamed at her.
“This is what you wanted, right? Are you happy now? You think all of this is a joke or a game of some kind. You spoilt not only mine, but Nandu’s day too because of your adamance.”

Saying this, he stormed off.

Nandu cried, “I don’t know why Papa always behaves like this. I try so hard to keep him happy, but he instead always keeps shouting at me. He really hates me a lot, and I don’t know why.”

“No Nandu, he doesn’t.” Riddhima tried to explain to her, but Nandu ran away too her bedroom, sobbing.

Gayatri was upset with her grandson’s behaviour.
“Let me talk to him and explain that this is not at all acceptable.”

Riddhima stopped her. “No Nani, you don’t need to do anything. Now whatever is to be done, I’ll do it myself. Vansh should realize that if he is stubborn, I can be worse too.”

Vansh was in a really bad mood, when Angre dared to disturb him.

“What the hell brings you here? Get lost!” he roared at him.

Angre had been working since many years under Vansh, and he was used to his rapidly fluctuating moods. This was nothing new to him.

“Boss, I have an important information for you. Remember the new company in the industry trying to overtake our company by snatching away all our investors and contracts? That company is owned by none other than Pathak himself.”

“I had an intuition that it could be Pathak,” said Vansh. “He must be the one stealing our company’s secrets and vital information and using it for his new company. But there must be someone from among us who is leaking out all this to him.
Does Sunny know who that person might be?”

“No Boss, he doesn’t.”

“Damn! That means Pathak still does not trust Sunny enough to share this information with him. This is not good news,” said Vansh.

Angre said, “But Boss, to be honest, Sunny has proved to be very useful for us. Pathak has no idea that one of the persons in his gang is actually planted by us. It was definitely a master stroke.”

Vansh let out a laugh. “Two months back, after the attack on me right in my yatch, I had decided to teach Pathak a lesson. That is when I had formulated this whole plan of sending Sunny as our pawn into Pathak’s gang. Of course, he has no freaking idea about it, and he will never have.”

Vansh continued, “When Riddhima had got kidnapped, it was Sunny who had informed us about Pathak’s involvement in it. Moreover, he had also sent us the location where Riddhima was held captive.
And now Sunny has done another great feat by informing us about how Pathak is the one who is behind destroying our company.
But I just want to know who is the other person who is involved in this fiasco, who is helping Pathak, and betraying us?”

Angre assured, “Boss, don’t worry. Soon Sunny would manage to obtain that part of information too.”

“But we don’t have time!” said Vansh irritatedly. “Or else, our entire business would be in ruins. We need to do something that makes Sunny win Pathak’s complete trust. Then only, Sunny can get to the truth about Pathak’s unknown benefactor, and our unknown betrayer.”

“But what can we do?” asked Angre.

Vansh smiled slyly. “I have an idea. But I don’t want to discuss this at home. Once when I get back to office, we can talk about it in detail.”

Just then, they heard a knock at the door.

Vansh said annoyed, “Who is it, when I’d clearly forbidden anyone to disturb me now? Why can’t people in this house let me live in peace?”

Angre opened the door, and found a package lying outside the door.

“It says it is from Riddhima,” Angre said handing it over to Vansh.

After Angre left, Vansh opened the package and found a brand new diary inside. There was a note attached to it.

Dear Vansh,

You always say that you prefer living in the present, rather than dwelling in the past. But the bitter truth is that you are still not completely out of your horrible past yet.

I know that not every pain can be shared with someone. Such an unshared pain tends to remain hidden in the heart, which over a long period of time becomes sore….

If you cannot share your sorrows, your insecurities with anybody, why don’t you do it with this diary? Put down all your bitter memories in it, and see how much relief you will get towards the end….

If you want to meet me, I’ll be waiting for you by the pool.

Riddhima

Vansh furiously marched to the pool, where Riddhima was waiting for him.

“What is the meaning of this crap? Why are you doing all this? Riddhima, you better stop this madness of yours before something untoward happens. You don’t know, but you are literally playing with fire.”

Riddhima inhaled sharply. She had always been a very impatient girl since her childhood, but don’t know why with Vansh, she always showed immense patience. It was something that came to her automatically, and not something she did consciously.

“Sometimes to put out a dangerous fire, you have to be willing to even play with it,” said Riddhima. “And I want to put out the fire building up in your heart, because it is not only burning you from inside, but is also engulfing all the people around you too.”

Vansh warned her, “Stop meddling in my affairs!”

Riddhima had had enough and couldn’t take in any longer.

“It’s absolutely okay for you to meddle in my affairs, but completely wrong for me to do the same? What kind of relation are we trying to embark upon? We still have four years to marriage, but at this rate, I don’t think our relationship would even be able to last for four more weeks.”

Vansh felt hurt. How could she talk about ending their relationship so casually? How could she?

As Riddhima turned to leave, Vansh pulled her towards him instead.
“Not four weeks or years, but our relation is of seven births.”

“I don’t think so, Vansh,” said Riddhima softly. “There is no way we can stay together like this.”

She was about to walk away, when she observed a shadow lurking behind the pillar. When she went to inspect it, she found no one. But she did find a torn piece of red cloth stuck on a nail.
“Someone was eavesdropping upon us. But who could it be?” she thought to herself and left for her room.

Vansh on the other hand, oblivious to all this, stumbled down to the ground. He could not express how badly it stung his heart to even imagine Riddhima leaving him. How and when did she become so important to him, he didn’t know.

He had already faced enough miseries in his life, and he had no strength to suffer another one. He had no strength to lose Riddhima….

He went back to his room, and opened the first page of the dairy. He began recollecting all the painful incidents of his life and began jotting them one after the other.
His father beating his mother and neglecting her and the children, his mother’s death, his father’s death, the financial burdens, Ragini’s betrayal, Nandu’s birth.

As Vansh relived it all again, tears started flowing down his cheeks uncontrollably. But he had to do it. To prevent Riddhima from leaving him, and making him alone once again….

The next day, as soon as Vansh found Riddhima alone, he went up to her carrying the diary along.

“It’s done,” he said emotionlessly, handing it to her.

Riddhima was pleasantly surprised. He had stayed up the entire night to fill it out, that meant there was still some scope of hope.

“You may read it,” he said further.

“But I don’t want to read it. A diary is a very private thing, and I think it’s absolutely wrong to invade someone’s privacy like that, how much ever close you might be to the concerned person,” said Riddhima.

“So why did you ask me to fill it out then?” asked Vansh looking visibly annoyed.

“I just wanted to give your pain some kind of relief….”

“But I got none,” snapped Vansh. “This was such a trash and absurd idea, and did no good to me. In fact, I wasted my precious time and sleep for this.”

Riddhima gave him a death stare, and he stopped himself from saying anything further.

Vansh looked at her with pain in his eyes and said, “Riddhima, I know you want to genuinely help me out of this. But you should know that I am a ruined man, and nothing’s going to work, no matter how hard you try. You are simply wasting your time.”

Riddhima took Vansh’s hand in hers, and gently rubbed the back of it. This seemed to relax him a bit.

“Do you trust me?” she asked.

He remained silent.

“Then let’s go to the beach!” she squealed in excitement.

Vansh did not know what to make of this. He facepalmed.
“Earlier I only had a doubt that you were crazy. But now I’m definitely sure that you are.”

Riddhima giggled. “Well, it’s good that I am crazy, because only a crazy girl can handle you!”

Vansh couldn’t help but smile listening to this. Slowly and gradually, he was also being pulled into her craziness, and he was…….actually starting to like it.

The sky was a beautiful mix of red, orange and blue. The sun had almost buried into the sea, and only a little part remained visible. The sweet sound of the splashing of the waves, was like music to Riddhima’s ears. And when the water receeded from beneath her feet, it made her feel as if she was floating in the air.
She inhaled deeply, trying to suck in the fresh air and familiarize herself even more with the scent of the sea….

“Why did you bring me over here?” asked Vansh interrupting her thoughts.

Riddhima said, “Look at the sunset, it looks even more beautiful on a beach.”

“So?”

She looked at him surprised. “So what? Don’t you have any interest in basking in the beauty of nature?”

“No. I don’t have time for such worthless things,” said Vansh casually.

Riddhima sighed, “Fine, let’s talk something important then. Tear off the pages from this diary, and throw them in the sea.”

Vansh gave her an exasperated expression. “I should have known that you’d come up with something crazy again.”

“You are a businessman, you know that sometimes the craziest and the most kiddish ideas work in the most unexpected way possible,” said Riddhima. “You have tried for years, Vansh, to get over your past. Why can’t you try another time?”

She continued, “Remember, you were the one who had told me that it’s all in the head and when one’s mind is rinsed off these negative thoughts, then everything will get fine.
Similarly, when you wash these pages from the diary into the sea, you will actually be freeing your mind off all those painful memories for ever.

“Nani told me that you had never got your father’s love. Do you want Nandu to also feel the same? Do you want her to go through the same issues that you have been facing?
I know that you love Nandu dearly, but it’s your bitter past making you to act rude with her.
Please Vansh, can you not do even this much….. for me?”

Vansh became emotional. This girl was thinking and doing so much for him….but why? Had she fallen in love with him, just like how he had?

He tore off the pages, one by one, and allowed the sea to wash them away. He watched with tears in his eyes as the water dissolved the papers, and he felt that a part of him had dissolved with it too.

“Those painful memories are no longer there in your diary, nor in your life,” said Riddhima holding Vansh’s hand tight. “You are not a ruined man anymore, you are a changed man. You will never be affected or influenced by your past, ever.”

It was getting dark and Vansh looked away. He didn’t want Riddhima to see him cry.

She understood that he wasn’t very comfortable to express his feelings in front of her or anyone for that matter of fact.

She lay down on the shore itself, with the waves gently crashing against her body.

Vansh looked at her in contempt. “Your clothes will get dirty.”

“Come on, don’t be such a spoilsport! It’s so much fun and calming too at the same time. Vansh, why don’t you try it for yourself? Look at me…”

Vansh stared at her. Her eyes were closed, and the moonlight that fell on her face, made her look like nothing short of a heavenly beauty.

He lay down beside her, closing his eyes and spreading his arms wide just like how she was doing.

“Did my idea help you feel a little relieved?” she asked.

“Yes, kind of….”

“I knew it! My Papa can never be wrong,” she said excitedly. “He did something like this with me when I was younger. He always used to tell me to let go off all the bad memories….”

“And what did Papa say about beautiful memories? What do we do with them?” asked Vansh.

“We should hold on to all the good things in our life tightly,” replied Riddhima with her eyes still closed.

She held her breath, when she felt Vansh bend his face over her’s. She opened her eyes and murmured, “What are you doing?”

“Trying to hold on to the most beautiful thing in my life tightly,” said Vansh, enveloping his arms around her.

She hugged him back, forgetting herself in the moment of bliss.
