Chapter 46
The repocrutions.
Karthik opened the door with a duplicate key after getting tired of knocking it continuously. He saw the whole dinning table being set up for a candle light dinner. A smile made its way on his lips at the scene. Suddenly his phone rang.
“Karthik, have you reached home ?!!” Shantanu bhai asked from the other side.
“Yes. Why ?!!” Karthik asked.
“We will be there with in five minutes. So, I just thought to ask.” Shantanu bhai said.
“Wasn’t it supposed to be a dinner at the Singhania’s ?!!” Karthik asked.
“Yeah, but Aaryan got tired and so did Keerti. Both of them needed rest so we are heading home.” Bhai answered.
“Ohkay. I will be waiting then. Bye.” Karthik said and disconnected the call. He started walking to his room.
The only thing that occupied his mind since yesterday was Rithvik. He was the one troubling his wife yet she choose to say nothing. It pained him that Naira was so afraid and scared all the time. He wanted to be her support but it was only possible when she would share her problems with him.
Karthik obviously loved her but was afraid to confess it because he was not sure about her reaction. Even though Naira was his wife but he didn’t want to force her into anything.
But Rithvik was a threat to her, a silent threat which she was not willing to share with him for some odd reason. Yet, he was willing to protect her because she was his responsibility and the one he loved.
Karthik casually opened the door of his room but stilled looking at the scene before him. The whole room was a complete mess with most of the glass items lay broken on the ground. In the dim light of the night bulb he saw someone lying on the ground in a pool of blood and then his eyes travelled to another person sitting beside it.
Karthik’s breathing hitched seeing the very familiar form with all ripped clothes, bruised lips, messy hair, pained eyes, pale skin with a flower vase in her hand. Looking totally lost and pained.
“Naira…” a sob escaped his lips as he ran towards her wrapping her fragile body in his strong arms. At that moment, all Karthik wanted to do was take all her pain away from her. He held her close to him and rubbed her back soothing her in the process.
Naira flinched for a moment as Karthik touched her but when she saw him, relief washed over her. There was a light flutter in her heart when she saw him being worried for her. She could almost see her pain reflected in his eyes.
Naira gulped and stared at him emotionlessly. It pained his heart. He pulled her face to his chest and patted her back assuring her. He expected her to cry or wail but she stayed still.
He tugged few strands of her hair behind her ear and cupped her face, looking straight into her eyes. Along with pain, fear and confusion there was also braveness along with determination in her eyes.
Even though Karthik was really angry at whatever was happening, he was really proud of Naira. She was his sherni. She needed no one else to protect her, she herself was suffice enough to take care of herself.
A few minutes later the Goenka’s reached their bedroom when the found the whole mansion empty. Everyone gasped looking at Naira’s state. She was safely tucked in Karthik’s arms but was completely lifeless. It didn’t take much time for the whole family to comprehend what had happened, looking at the room’s condition.
Vrushika Bhabi ran to her, circling her arms around Naira. That touch filled with love and affection made Naira burst into tears, that she had been holding on for a long time. Vrushika Bhabi wrapped a shawl around her body.
Karthik felt a stab in his heart, hearing her painful sobs and anger started replacing every other emotion in his body. Shantanu bhai rushed to Rithvik’s side who had now started moving. It seemed as the effect of alcohol was wearing off now.
“How dare you ?!!” He punched Rithvik’s face hard making him bleed from his nose. In return, Rithvik moaned in pain but Shantanu bhai kept beating him back and blue. No other member from the family made an attempt to him. Everyone knew that he deserved it.
“How dare you do this to my wife, Rithvik ?!!” Karthik asked and punced him in the gut.
Rithvik shook his head and tried to defend himself from the blows but everything went unsuccessful. Slowly, realization sink into him as his head started recording the events. The only feeling he felt was guilt.
“Stop it Karthik !! Leave him.” Shantanu Bhai said and Karthik turned to his brother with bloodshot eyes effectively silencing him.
“I…didn’t mean to.” Rithvik said.
Before he could form a sentence, another blow hit his jaw and then another one to his already bruised ribs. He cried in pain for every blow but no one felt sympathy for him. This made Rithvik feel cheap of himself. As he was sobering up, he understood how stupid he was and how he tried to harm the love of his life.
But all he need was a chance to say sorry, to explain himself. But no one seemed to be in a state to listen to him. Still hoping, he turned his face to Naira who was standing in one corner of the room with a blank expression and as soon as their eyes met, Rithvik saw something painful in her eyes..Hate. Loath. Irritation. and….
Sympathy ?!! Everyone of those emotions tore him apart and now he felt that he deserved every curse thrown at him, every blow that knocked air out of his body, every drop of blood that left his mouth and nose…he deserved everything !!
Since Naira had calmed down, Vrushika Bhabi folded her arms across her shoulders and just like that, both of them left the room. Naira wanted to be alone for sometime so she requested bhabi to take her to the guest room.
Shantanu bhai pulled Karthik away from a very devastated, self loathing Rithvik. If it was as per Karthik’s wish then he would have killed the person who hurt his wife then and there.
“Your Naira needs you now, Karthik. Shantanu will take care of him for now. We will talk about him later.” Manish said.
Karthik’s features softened listening about Naira but everything vanished with one glance at Rithvik.
“No way !! I am not going to leave him until every thought about harming Naira in any way leaves his mind. I will file a case against this bastard !!” with that, Karthik jumped on Rithvik to beat him more but was stopped by Shantanu bhai.
With one last deathly glare at Rithvik, Karthik made his way to Naira. She needed him now.

So I had some free time today and therefore could manage this update. Well I have been troubling all of you by late updates so this probably is a good thing.
Will try my best to post the next chapter tomorrow. Also I have almost completed the first chapter of my new FF, only some final work is left. Will start with that one soon as well. So stay tuned.
