Karan Suchak on embracing diverse roles; says, “I had a hiatus of 7-8 months before taking on the role of Jai in Na Umra Ki Seema Ho”
Karan Suchak has garnered recognition for his remarkable portrayals of mythological characters on television, capturing the hearts of his fans with his exceptional acting skills. From the role of Ram to Peshwa Bajirao, he has consistently impressed viewers. However, he has now shattered the mythological stereotype and taken on intriguing characters, the latest being Jai, a possessive and psychologically complex lover in the series “Na Umra Ki Seema Ho.”
In a recent interview, Karan candidly discussed his latest character and his views on the conventional protagonists prevalent on television.
When asked about his interest in portraying a character like Jai, Karan shared, “This role is completely different from anything I have played thus far, such as Ram, Lakshman, or Peshwa Bajirao. It presents a stark contrast to viewers’ perception of me. I was growing tired of the monotonous roles often seen on TV, where the protagonist remains the same. With Jai, I am relishing the opportunity to explore a different shade. People are even drawing comparisons between my character and Shahrukh Khan’s portrayal of Rahul in ‘Darr,’ which is indeed an accomplishment.”
Reflecting on his approach to selecting projects and characters, Karan emphasized the lasting impact of television roles, stating, “In television, people remember you by your character rather than your real name. If you ask someone for the real names of Komolika or Kokilaben, they might not know, but they can recall you based on your roles. When Jai was presented to me, it had an intensity to it, and Jai’s character possessed various layers. As an actor, I realized that I could experiment with my role and not just stand there uttering a few dialogues.”
Apart from the predictable roles found on television, Karan expressed his desire to explore different projects, stating, “I would love to take on diverse roles. Prior to ‘Na Umra Ki Seema Ho,’ I played the character of Mangal Pandey in ‘Swaraj.’ I have always been drawn to characters who embody great valor and have compelling stories. Thus, I would relish the opportunity to portray a range of freedom fighters and inspiring personalities. While romantic characters are popular on TV, I am keen on exploring the other side as well.”
Delving further into his interest in challenging scripts focused on freedom fighters, Karan was asked if he planned to venture into the realm of streaming platforms for more serious roles. He responded, “OTT platforms are flourishing, and they offer easy accessibility to viewers. However, after completing ‘Thoda Sa Baadal Thoda Sa Paani,’ I had a hiatus of 7-8 months before taking on the role of Jai. Television has been my platform for growth and learning. It is crucial to gain experience before venturing into something more serious. Hence, after this experience, I will certainly explore different platforms, as it has provided me the chance to break away from the routine and portray something unique.”
