Kriyam ff- The one year marriage (Chapter 4)

Chapter 4

Krishna stood in front of the mirror. The pyjamas she wore draped down her tiny frame, obviously too big for her. She giggled hugging herself, relishing the softness. His scent still lingered on the clothes taking her back to when she danced with him. These were Sayyam’s. Heat rushed to her face as she suddenly felt goosebumps, feeling the fabric against her skin. Krishna what are you thinking…so what if these are his?! She shook her head as she made her way into bed. Just go to sleep and stop thinking about today! She shut her eyes tight as sleep slowly took over her.

It was early morning and Krishna woke up to the sound of knocking on the door. She rubbed her eyes and sat up, wondering who it is.

Come in…

The door opened to reveal it was Sayyam.

He stood there smiling. Good morning Krishna.

She smiled back as she watched him slowly make his way towards her. He stopped at the foot of the bed, just staring at her. She started feeling anxious, waiting for him to do something. She saw him slowly get on the bed, crawling towards her. Her heart beat increased with every inch he got closer to her. She didn’t realise when his sweet smile had turned into a mischievous smirk. She subconsciously moved back, until her back hit the headboard. She was trapped. He was already moving over her body, getting closer to her face. He got up close to her ear and whispered her name with his smooth, deep voice, sending shivers down her spine. He nibbled at her ear before lightly brushed his lips along her cheek and jawline stopping at the corner of her lips. He looked deep into her eyes, as if asking for permission to proceed. Krishna gently placed her hand on his cheek, shyly giving a slight nod. She slowly closed her eyes, puckering her lips…

Her eyes shot open, the sound of her heart pounding in her ears. She looked around trying to figure out where she was. It was still dark outside. It was a dream? What kind of dream was that?! Krishna slowly sat up, calming herself down. Why would I dream about him?… I think need to get out of here! She got out of bed and ran towards her room hoping Yuvaani was alone. Much to her relief the door was open and Yuvaani was sleeping alone. I better get out of these clothes as well. She got changed and lay down in her bed, feeling somewhat as ease as she went back to sleep.

It was morning and Krishna woke up to someone knocking on her door. She quickly sat up, nervous. Am I dreaming again? The knocking continued. No…it can’t be.

She hesitatingly called out K…kaun?

She watched the door open slowly to find Yuvaan standing there.

Thank god, Yuvaan sirf tum ho She sighed feeling relieved.

Aur kaun hoga?… acha choro Krishna tum jaldi se bahir aa jao, muje tumse baat karni hain He said.

She smiled and nodded. He left as Krishna got up to get ready.

She made her way to the dining room. She smiled glancing around as everyone was busy eating breakfast. Sayyam was also there. Her dream flashed through her mind again, making her blush. Why did he have to be here…Krishna just stop thinking about that dream! She tried to convince herself.

Krishna…why are you just standing there, mere paas aake behto Yuvaan signalled towards an empty seat next to him.

Krishna quickly went and sat down, praying Sayyam had not seen her. But he had already noticed her the moment she stepped into the room. It took a lot of will power for him not to look up at her. He could see from the corner of his eye how her expressions changed as she stood there. She looked adorable. Sayyam tried focusing on his breakfast again, but his attention was caught again when he saw Yuvaan hold Krishna’s hand.

Krishna muje maaf kardo, kal tumhare saath bohat bura hua. Golu bhaiyya ne muje sab kuch bata diya hai. Muje tumhare saath hona chaiyye tha, I’m sorry. He squeezed Krishna’s hand looking at her apologetically.

Yuvaan!…tum Krishna ki itni fikar na karo…Sayyam pura time uske saath tha Baby piped up smiling.

Sayyam and Krishna both shot her a glare, which she ignored.

I know Baby, Golu bhaiyya ne bataya tha…infact Sayyam maine tumhe thank you kehna tha meri Krishna ko bachane ke liye.

Sayyam looked at Yuvaan. Why was he feeling guilty and angry at the same time? He tried to ignore these feelings as he spoke up. It’s ok dude, maine wohi kiya jo ek dost ko karna chaiyye.

Sayyam glanced at Krishna who was staring at at him a with an expression he could not understand, before she quickly looked away. Krishna turned her attention to Yuvaan. He looked genuinely sorry…she was so lucky to find such a caring guy like him, why would she even think of someone else. Everything she ever wanted was right in front of her. Krishna placed her hand on top of Yuvaan’s and smiled

It’s ok Yuvaan, muje pata hai ke tum meri bohat fikar karthe ho, ab bas kal jo bhi hua mere saath usko bhool jao aur main bhi bhool jao gi. She assured him.

Yuvaan hugged Krishna, with Yuvaani cheering them on. Sayyam felt irritated, but why? He should be happy for his brother. That’s right I should also forget about everything that happened yesterday. He thought as he got up to leave.

Krishna spent the rest of the trip with Yuvaan, much to the chagrin of Baby. She gave up and left for home early. Krishna was very happy with all the attention she was getting from Yuvaan. She knew she had made the right decision to marry him. Golu had also spoken to Sayyam about Krishna. He knew something was growing between them and he had to stop it. He told Sayyam to stay away from Krishna as much as possible. Sayyam agreed. He didn’t understand what he felt towards Krishna, but knew it was not right and he should stop before it was too late.

A few weeks later

As soon as everyone returned from the farmhouse the wedding preparations began with full force. Krishna and Sayyam had not spoken a word to each other since they came back. Sayyam hardly ever came to the Birla House and whenever he did, it was to run an errand for the wedding. Krishna had fully dedicated herself to Yuvaan and preparing for the wedding. The feelings that had sprouted between them back then had withered away, leaving only a distance that had increased tenfold.

The haldi

The guests had arrived. Yuvaan and everyone sat waiting for Krishna to come.

Pratima turned to Yuvaani Beta tum ja ke Krishna ko le ao, rasam ka time hogaya hai.

Ok dadi main Krishna ko leke aati hoon. Yuvaani went to get Krishna.

Ye Sayyam abhi tak haldi leke kyu nahi aya? Suhani looked around for Sayyam, she had told him to get the haldi from the kitchen.

Yuvaani got to Krishnas room only to find her still getting ready. Krishna tum abhi tak ready nahi hui…sab tumhara intazaar kar rahe hai!

Krishna looked up at Yuvaani pouting. Sorry Yuvaani, tum jao main 2 minutes mein aati hoon.

Yuvaani rolled her eyes at her Ok sirf 2 minutes, jaldi! She left.

Meanwhile Sayyam got sidetracked with something and was late in getting the haldi. He sprinted down the hall with the bowl of haldi. Krishna also hurriedly left her room as she fixed her clothes. They didn’t see each other and collided. Krishna stumbled backwards, making Sayyam grab her from around her waist to stop her from falling. As a result the bowl of haldi flew out of Sayyams hand, splattering haldi all over them. The bowl shattered on to the floor. They stared at each other with haldi dripping down their faces.

Sayyam could see Krishna trying to hold back her laughter Kya hua?

Krishna burst out laughing, looking at Sayyams stunned face. He looked so cute.

Tumhari shakal dekhne layak hai! She laughed.

Her laugh was so infectious, he struggled not to laugh, but composed himself. Krishna grabbed her dupatta and started wiping the haldi off his face. It caught him off guard as he stared at her, mesmerised. Her face showed so much care and concentration, as she gently wiped away. He lifted his hand. about to clean the haldi off her face too, but suddenly stopped knowing this was wrong. He grabbed her arm, frowning at her. Sayyam tum ye…?

Ye sab kya hai! Dadi shouted looking at the mess.

Everyone came, wondering what the sound was. Her attention turned to Sayyam who was still holding Krishna. They quickly parted.

Muje pata tha iski hi galti hogi, Suhani meine kaha tha ke aise manhoos ladke ko na shaamil karo is shaadi main! Ab dekha kya hogaya! Krishna looked at Sayyam feeling bad for, she finally realised why he never came here.

Krishna timidly spoke up Bari Dadi… ye Sayyam ki galti nahi thi, woh tho ba…

Tum chup kar jao ladki!…aur apne kamre main ja ke kampre badlo! Krishna jumped a little and obediently did what she was told.

Sayyam stood with his eyes downcast, clenching his fists. It took all his strength not to speak up against her. Suhani looked over at Sayyam, her heart aching seeing her son being humiliated like this.

Yuvraaj came forward, fed up Bas kare Dadi, itna tamasha kar he ki zaroorat nahi hai.

Kyu Yuvraaj? dekho is ladke pe humare Yuvaan ki haldi pehle lag gai hai aur baki sari haldi karab hogay hai…ye sahi nahi hua Yuvraaj! Dadi replied back.

Dadi Sayyam pe pehle haldi lagi hai isse hume koi farak nahi parta aur haldi aur bhi aa sakti hai Yuvraaj replied sternly.

Theek hai jo karna hai karo, lekin mein ke rahi hoon iska anjaam acha nahi hoga! She said before leaving.

Yuvraaj signalled everyone else to leave too, leaving only himself and Suhani.

Suhani cupped Sayyams faced, turning his face to look at her. Sayyam beta tum theek ho?

Sayyam blankly stared at her, taking her hands off. Haan mein theek hoon ma…muje lagta hain muje ider se chale jana chaiyye. He struggled to speak as a lump formed in his throat.

He turned around and left before Suhani could say anything to him. He could not see her cry.

Sayyam! She called out after him, but Yuvraaj stopped her.

Her eyes brimmed with tears as Yuvraaj hugged her. It’s okay Suhani woh zara calm down hogay phir agaye ga wapis.

He didn’t come back for the rest of the haldi celebration.

The mehndi

The Birla House was filled with laughter, song and dance as the mehndi function was well under way. Krishna sat amongst women chatting away happily. The mehndi artist was applying mehndi on her hand.

Ma’am dulhe ka naam likna hain? She asked Krishna.

Of course aur ache se chupana naam! Yuvaani chirped, hugging Krishna from behind. Krishna blushed nudging her off her.

Aur dulhe ka naam…? The mehndi artist asked Krishna, but she wasn’t listening already busy talking to someone else.

The mehndi artist looked up at Yuvaani, hoping for an answer from her. Yuvaani was on the phone, with her earphone in one ear, waiting for Sayyam to answer, when she noticed her staring. She was about to talk to her when Sayyam picked up her call.

Sayyam! Yuvaani shouted.

The mehndi artist nodded failing to see the earphone in Yuvaani ear. Acha tho Sayyam hai dulhe ka naam she thought to herself as she started writing it on Krishna’s hand.

Yuvaani went somewhere quiet. Sayyam can you hear me now?! Please ajao, tum kal bhi chale gay the aur ma bhi bohat upset hai, unke liye ajao plea…

Golu came from behind and snatched the phone off Yuvaani. Sayyam agar thu abhi na aya tho mein tuje abhi ake utha ke le ao ga! He cut the call.

Kya kaha usne? Yuvaani asked curiously.

Golu smiled proudly He’s coming!

Yuvaani shrieked in delight hugging Golu. Thank you bhaiyya…he always listens to you!

Ok, chal ab thora dance karte hai! He said pulling Yuvaani to the main hall.

Sayyam arrived a while later, but stood quietly in a corner. Krishna noticed him and smiled at him relieved he was here. She was worried about him since yesterday’s incident and didn’t know if he would even come for the rest of the wedding. All the family did dance performances, finishing with a dance between Yuvaan and Krishna. Yuvaani and Golu tried to convince Sayyam to dance, but he blatantly refused, especially when he saw Dadi glare at him. He wanted to leave, he knew he didn’t belong here, but was only staying back for his mother.

The celebrations finished late into the night and Krishna went to her room. She sat on her bed finally getting a chance to admire her mehndi properly. Yuvaani came into the room

Arey Krishna, Yuvaan ka naam dhoond rhi ho? She teased.

Krishna smiled and nodded. But I can’t find it Yuvaani! Krishna said looking closely at her hands.

Yuvaani came and started searching too. Omg Krishna…ye tho usne Sayyam ka naam likh diya hai!

Krishna looked carefully refusing to believe this, hoping she was joking. But Yuvaani was right, she saw Sayyams name written on her hand.

Ye kese hogaya? Krishna looked up at Yuvaani close to tears.

Pata nahi, but don’t worry, you can’t even see it properly…Yuvaani paused and started thinking as a smirk formed on her face

Waise Krishna kal Sayyam ko pehle haldi lag gai aur ab ye Sayyam ka naam tumhare haath pe hai, aise lagta hai tumhe Yuvaan se nahi Sayyam se shaadi karni chaiyye thi! Yuvaani started laughing teasing her.

Krishna didn’t know why she felt butterflies in her stomach at the thought of marrying Sayyam.

Yuvaani ye kya mazaak hai! She replied hitting her lightly.

Ok baba I’m sorry, ab isko choro and go to sleep, kal tumhari YUVAAN ke saath shaadi hai She winked at Krishna as she left.

Krishna got into bed. She pouted looking at the name on her hand. She shook her head feeling stupid for even worrying over something so small. Haan kal mein Yuvaan se shaadi kar rahi hoon, not Sayyam! She thought happily drifting off to sleep.

Precap: The wedding continues

Hi guys, I hope you liked this chapter. I don’t know how convincing the mehndi scene was, when she accidently wrote Sayyams name lol. It was hard to describe the scene, but I hope it made some sense. Please do leave a comment and Eid Mubarak to everyone! 😀
