Chapter 5
The wedding
The Birla House was lively and joyful with people running around trying to get all the last minute wedding preparations done. Away from all the hustle and bustle Yuvaan sat in his room, contemplating about his marriage to Krishna. Over the last few weeks he had become more close to Krishna. He was finally content with marrying Krishna. He hadn’t thought about HER in weeks. Still lost in deep thought, when he heard a knock on the door. He looked up to see Baby standing at the door.
Baby tum yaha? Yuvaan stood up looking at Baby worriedly.
Baby ran up to Yuvaan and hugged him. She started sobbing into his shoulder.
Baby tum theek ho… tum roh kyu rahi ho?! Yuvaan pulled Baby away from him holding her shoulders.
Yuvaan meine…bohat bari galti kar di hain…muje pehle batana chaiyye tha…She said still crying. Kya batana tha Baby bolo? Yuvaan shook her slightly starting to feel anxious. M…mein…mein pr..pregnant hoon! (Thunder sound effects! lol)
K..kya..? Yuvaan barely managed to speak stumbling backwards in shock. Baby tried her best to hide her smile. She was finally going to get Yuvaan.
What?! Baby turned her head to see Yuvaani standing by the door, having heard everything.
Baby tum sach bol rahi ho na? Kya ye Yuvaan ka hi bacha hai? Yuvaani questioned her.
Baby felt a bit annoyed by Yuvaani. Of course ye Yuvaan ka hai Yuvaani! Meine Yuvaan ke alava kisi se pyaar nahi kiya! Baby shouted.
Yuvaani turned to Yuvaan Kya tum dono ke beech aisa rishta tha?!
Yuvaan simply nodded, still trying to process what he had just heard.
Tho tumne Krishna ke saath shaadi ke liye haan kyu kahi?! Yuvaani was close to crying thinking about Krishna.
Yuvaan’s eyes widened, remembering the fact that he was marrying Krishna today. Krishna ka kiya hoga? He thought. Yuvaani ran out and called the whole family to Yuvaan’s room. She told them everything, as everyone stood in shock listening to her.
Krishna broke down crying, dropping to the floor. Suhani put her arms around her trying to comfort her.
Muje maaf kardo Krishna, humari waja se ye sab hogaya…muje Yuvaan se sahi tara se pooch na chaiyye tha! Suhani cried.
Yuvraaj asked Yuvaan what he intended to do about the situation.
Mein Baby ko is halat main nahi chor sakta…I’m sorry Krishna. Yuvaan looked at her with guilt and frustration in his eyes.
Krishna already knew the outcome as soon as she had found out about the pregnancy. She knew Yuvaan’s decision would not change even if she begged him. There was no point in crying over this anymore. She got up from the floor wiping her tears away.
It’s okay Yuvaan tumhari galti nahi hai, muje pata hai tumne apne pure mann se muje apna liya tha, bas meri hi kismat karab thi She turned around and left the room, leaving everyone baffled by her reaction.
Dekha Suhani tumhari waja se, hume itni embaressment sehni pari gi!…sare mehmaan aye hoye hain aur shaadi ki sari thiyari bhi hogay hai, ab sabko kya jawaab dain ge! Dadi ranted on.
Suhani didn’t care about anything but Krishna right now. Par ab Krishna ka kya hoga? She looked worriedly at Yuvraaj.
Haan mein bhi yehi soch raha tha…aise last minute pe shaadi na hona bohat traumatic hoga uske liye Yuvraaj replied.
Waise meri koi jaga nahi hain bol ne ki par aap Sayyam se shaadi kar de Krishna se? Baby spoke up.
She had to make sure Yuvaan would never go back to Krishna. Everyone looked at her in shock, including Sayyam who was standing silently till now.
Ye tum kya bakwaas kar rahi ho! He yelled at her.
She jumped at his reaction, slight scared.
Haan Baby, aisa khayaal tumhare mind main aya kaise? Yuvaan asked her.
Yuvaan meine dekha tha kaise Sayyam khayal rakh raha tha Krishna ka farmhouse pe, bas isliye meine socha ke maybe Sayyam usko pasand karta hain Baby replied trying to act innocent.
Sayyam clenched his fists in anger and was about to say something when Suhani placed her hand on his shoulder, signalling him to calm down.
Baby hume pata hain ke Sayyam aisa kuch nahi kar sakta…Sayyam aur Krishna ki shaadi nahi hogi Suhani said defensively.
Hogi! Dadi shouted Iske baad kaun kare ga Krishna se shaadi…hum uski responsibility aur nahi le ge bas ya tho uski shaadi karvado aaj ya woh wapis chale jai jaha woh pehle kaam karti thi!
Everyone stared at Dadi in disbelief.
Deep down Suhani was starting to think Dadi might be right. Krishna’s wedding being cancelled would tarnish her name and she would have to hear a lot from society. Even if everyone would be there to support her, how would she be able to bear it? Maybe this marriage will be for the best.
Sayyam…muje lagta hai ke Dadi theek ke rahi hain Suhani spoke up hesitantly.
Sayyam looked at her astonished. Ma ye kya ke rahi ho…mein Krishna se shaadi?
Yuvraaj was also surprised at Suhani Haan Suhani ye tum kya soch rahi ho? Sayyam aur Krishna tho ek dusre se pyar bhi nahi karte.
Suhani turned to Yuvraaj. Yuvraaj Yuvaan bhi Krishna ko nahi pyar karta tha, muje pata hai sab kuch theek hogay ga un dono ki shaadi ke baad.
Yuvraaj was still not happy but the decision was ultimately left to Sayyam.
Sayyam didn’t know what do to. He left the room, trying to think everything through with a clear mind. He knew Krishna loved Yuvaan, so how could she ever be happy with him? He could see Krishna’s room ahead. He stopped outside it. He saw Krishna sitting on the bed completely still, her eyes swollen from crying earlier and no emotion seen on her face. It was like she had given up on life. He felt something stir up inside. He felt a sudden sense of duty, wanting to protect this girl from the world. Shield her away from all the taunts and stares she would have to bear. So many questions crossed his mind. Could he be the one to stop her from crying? Could he help her forget the pain she was going through right now? Could he make her happy again? Could he at least make her independent enough to face the world on her own? He didn’t know, but he had made his decision. Even if it might be the wrong decision in the long run, right now it was the right thing to do.
He told Suhani he was ready to marry Krishna. She was delighted as she hugged him. It was now left up to Krishna to say yes. Suhani and Yuvraaj went to talk to her. She was still sat on the bed lost deep in thought. Krishna had already heard everything Dad had said before she returned to her room. She was already indebted to this family for taking in an orphan like her. How could she possibly refuse them? And there was nothing left for her anyway. It didn’t matter who she married anymore.
Krishna? Yuvraaj called out to her softly.
Krishna looked up breaking away from her thoughts. She saw a nervous Suhani and Yuvraaj standing in front of her. She felt her throat dry up, knowing exactly why they were here.
Yuvraaj began to speak Krishna woh actually…
Krishna interrupted him Aunty, Daidu muje pata hai aap kya pooch ne wale hai aur mein thiyar hoon.
Suhani was slightly taken aback by her quick reply, but hugged Krishna relieved she had agreed.
Tum sure ho na Krishna? Yuvraaj asked still not convinced. Krishna forced a smile nodding at him, too choked up to speak.
All the final preparations were done and Krishna and Sayyam were married. Everything happened so fast they did not even get time to talk to each other. Before she knew it, Krishna found herself sitting on the bed in Sayyam’s room. The whole wedding was nothing but a blur for her. She didn’t know what to feel anymore, all that kept flashing in her mind was the time Yuvaan refused to marry her. Sayyam came into the room. For a minute he wasn’t sure what to do, but then went and sat down next to Krishna.
Krishna? he called out.
She looked up slightly dazed, not realising when he had come in. He was waiting for her to say something, but she looked down again.
Sayyam sighed in frustration Krishna muje pata hai tumhare saath bohat galat hua aaj, lekin tum aise shut out na karo sab ko…tum akeli nahi ho Krishna…Kuch tho bolo?! Sayyam had grabbed her arms forcing her to look at him.
Krishna stared at him angrily, pulling her arms out of his grasp. Kya bolu mein Sayyam…thank you mujse shaadi karne ke liye?…
Tears stung her eyes, but she refused to let them shed.
Sayyam did not expect that reply from her. Krishna ye tum kya kehri ho, meine tho ek dost hone ke nata tu…
Krishna clutched onto his shirt pulling him close to her. Sayyam tum mere dost ho na, tho phir batao kyu mein akele feel karti hoon…kyu muje sab chor ke chale jate hain, pehle papa, phir ma aur ab Yuvaan…mein kya itni buri hoon?!
Krishna lost it, she couldn’t control it anymore as tears flowed down her cheeks. Sayyam felt the tears soak his shirt as she cried against his chest. He put his arms around her and held her, letting her cry out all her pain.
Krishna eventually calmed down and wiped her tears away. She felt much better.
Thank you Sayyam she smiled awkwardly, remembering her earlier outburst.
Sayyam cleared his throat slightly embarrassed too. Krishna…muje nahi pata ke aage humari shaadi ga kya hoga, lekin jab tuk tum mere saath ho, I will always look out for you Sayyam said this in the most sincere way possible.
Just then it dawned on Krishna that she was now a married woman and her husband Sayyam was sitting in front of her. She started feeling a little uneasy, especially as Sayyam continued to stare at her.
It was becoming very uncomfortable. Krishna tried to think of something to say.
She forwarded her hand to Sayyam. Acha ye dekho…tumhe pata hain, Yuvaan ki jaga galti se tumhara naam likh diya tha.
Sayyam looked at the hand in disbelief. Kya?…kaha likha hai, I can’t see it.
Krishna moved her hand closer to his face.
Tum andhe ho, yehi tho likha hai. She grinned playfully teasing him.
Sayyam glared at her and grabbed her hand.
Mein andha nahi hoon acha, I’ll find it. He replied determinedly.
Krishna observed him as he carefully scanned her hand. Her heart melted seeing the adorable expression he made. She saw his hair slightly covering his eyes.
Pehle apne baal tho hathalo apni ankhon se, phir nazar ayega na She giggled gently moving it to the side.
Sayyam suddenly tensed up and looked at Krishna. Their eyes met. Why does he always make this face? Krishna thought looking at the frown that had formed on his face.
Uhh choro…tumhe nahi milega naam…ye idhar hai Krishna said breaking the eye contact and pointing at the name.
Sayyam awkwardly looked down again at it. Krishna felt an current creep up her arm as Sayyam lightly brushed his thumb across it.
Kismat hai na, ke tumhara naam likh ho gaya Yuvaan ki jaga? Krishna said pulling her hand away.
Sayyam sighed Nahi Krishna ye kismat nahi, bas ek galti hai he said getting up from the bed.
Tum ab kampre badal kar so jao bohat raat ho chuki hai he said turning around to leave.
Krishna didn’t know why she felt slightly annoyed by his reply, but decided not to say anything. She tried getting up from the bed, but was too exhausted from wearing the heavy clothes and jewellery all day.
Mein bohat tired hoon, mein aise hi so jati hoon aur subha badal loon gi she said with a yawn.
Sayyam looked at her as she was about to lay down on the bed. He walked up to her and grabbed both her hands pulling her off the bed. Krishna looked at him confused as she was pulled towards the dressing table.
Sayyam sat Krishna down in front of the dressing table. He carefully removed the dupatta off her head, letting it fall onto the floor. Krishna felt the air hit her bare neck and back leaving her feeling exposed and vulnerable.
Sayyam tum rehne do…I’ll do it myself.
Sayyam signalled her to be quiet and proceeded to take her maang tika off. He knelt down close to her to take off her earrings, his fingertips lightly grazing her ear and neck. Krishna shut her eyes tight as she felt his hot breath on her skin. She wanted him to stop, but couldn’t find the voice to say anything anymore. She felt his cold fingers brush along her collarbone as he removed her necklace, making her hair stand up on the nape of her neck. She slowly opened her eyes again and saw Sayyam through the mirror, carefully removing the thousands of pins from her hair. It warmed her heart to see the care and concentration on his face as he made sure he didn’t pull her hair too harshly. His fingers gently ran through her hair. She had to admit, this feeling relaxed her. She had begun to feel light and calm as the weight of the jewellery had also been lifted off her. Finally her hair was free as it flowed down her back. Krishna couldn’t help but smiled as she saw Sayyam proudly observe his work.
Thank you Sayyam She smiled sweetly at him through the mirror.
He looked at her dumbfounded as if he had just come out of a daze. He quickly regained his composure.
Umm…it’s okay…ab tum so jao. He quickly left, closing the door behind him.
As soon as he closed it, Sayyam slumped against the door, leaning his head back. He placed his hand over his chest as he felt his heart pounding fiercely. He felt like he had just come out of a dream, only just realising how close he had been with her and how he had touched her. He couldn’t understand what possessed him to do this. Why did he lose his rationality around this girl? He needed to find some way to stay away from her. He pushed himself off the door and walked outside trying to calm himself down. Meanwhile Krishna was still sitting in front of the mirror. She lightly traced all the places Sayyam had touched her, still feeling that tingling sensation. Her skin was still warm and sensitive. No man had gotten this close to her before, so obviously she would react like this right? She thought to herself. She was too tired to think too much into this and got up to change, ready to sleep.
Precap: It’s the morning after and Sayyam has a proposal for Krishna.
