Kriyam ff- The one year marriage (Chapter 8)

Chapter 8

The warm sunlight poured through the window on an otherwise cold morning. Krishna woke up, peaking her head out of the cosy, thick duvet, her eyes still shut, avoiding the sun’s glare. She stretched her arms out as the cold air hit her skin, but froze mid-stretch feeling a strange weight on her. She opened her eyes, her vision slowly coming into focus, as reality started setting in. There she saw him. Her so called husband Sayyam, lying across from her, his arm casually resting around her tiny waist and his legs tangled with hers. The only thing stopping them from moulding into one was that measly pillow she had laid out last night, now crushed between them. Krishna had a moment of panic, but the warmth and comfort she was feeling at that moment did not make it last very long. She felt too relaxed, wanting to stay like this forever.

She noticed Sayyam’s face only a few inches away from hers. Krishna bit her bottom lip, trying to avoid the urge to pinch his cheeks. He looked so peaceful and defenceless, just like an innocent child, you wouldn’t believe him to be an arrogant jerk. She continued to observe his face. She found her hand move on its own as her finger lightly brushed along the tips of his long eyelashes. She silently giggled to herself, seeing her silliness, but her fascination didn’t stop there. Her hand found itself playing with his hair, her fingers slowly running through his thick, black locks, something she found oddly satisfying. She jerked her hand away, noticing him move from her touch.

S..Sayyam? She called out softly.

He made an adorable scowl on his face and tightened his grip around Krishna’s waist pulling her closer. She was struggling to breathe now, especially with the pillow between them.

Hamesha iske saath hi kyu panga lethi hai?! She scolded herself, fearing he was waking up.

She decided to move his arm away from her waist. She carefully grabbed his hand from her back and slowly lifted it away. But before she could let go, Sayyam intertwined his fingers with hers and pulled her hand to his chest. This took her by surprise, as her heart started racing. She looked on anxiously as his brows furrowed, his eyes opening slowly.

Sayyam blinked a few times adjusting to the sunlight. Krishna came into his view, looking radiant as ever, her porcelain skin glowing as the sun shone on her. Her light brown eyes glistened, as she stared back at him. Her rosy pink lips and blushing cheeks beckoned him to come closer. She looked so beautiful. Am I still asleep? Is this a dream? He thought, about to go back to sleep, but then he felt a tug at his hand. He looked down to see his hand holding onto Krishna’s. His eyes widened as he became fully awake. He glanced up at Krishna, who quickly looked away. His cheeks turned a reddish hue as they burned with embarrassment. He let go of hand and hastily untangled his legs, taking the duvet off him. He felt the loss of warmth as he drew away from Krishna, getting up and sitting on the edge of the bed. He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to compose himself, thinking of what to say. He could feel Krishna staring at him, which made him want leave.

Forget this man…I need to get out of here. With that thought he got up, grabbed his things and went straight to the bathroom. As soon as the bathroom door shut Krishna let out a sigh of relief. Thank god he didn’t say anything, ugh that was so embarrassing! She drew the duvet over her head, wanting to run away.

Sayyam had calmed down as he got out of the bathroom, ready to leave. He saw the top of Krishna’s head poking out of the duvet. He cleared his throat, trying to get her attention.

Hey! Hurry up and get ready, we need to leave soon! He said walking up to the bed.

Krishna quickly threw the duvet off her and noticed Sayyam towering over her. She sunk back into the bed, feeling a little scared as he glared down at her, his hands on his waist.

Bohat acha tha tumhara ye plan, ek chota sa pillow rakh ne ka He spoke sarcastically. Next time ziyada rakhna ok?..ab jaldi tiyar hoke neecha ao! He demanded, waiting for her to respond. Krishna just nodded and ran to the bathroom.

Sayyam walked outside followed by Krishna.

Wait Sayyam, Yuvaan aur Baby ka intezaar nahi karna? She asked slightly out of breath from rushing to get ready.

Why? They can do what they want on their own, plus should you even be caring about them? He looked at her with raised eyebrows.

She knew what he meant, feeling embarrassed by her reaction last night. She couldn’t understand why she reacted that way because being around Yuvaan didn’t hurt her anymore, there was just a little awkwardness that’s all. She didn’t expect herself to forget her pain so quickly, it made her think maybe it was because she married Sayyam. The one thing she was certain about was that Yuvaan was her dear friend and he would never hurt her intentionally, but the thing that made her feel uneasy was being around Baby.

Hello, kaha koh gayi..chale? Sayyam clicked his fingers in Krishna’s face, snapping her out of her thoughts.

Lekin Sayyam tum Yuvaan ka wait karo na, tum dono bachpan main bohat skiing karte the na saath tho ab kyu nahi? She said stopping Sayyam again.

Rehne do Krishna, Sayyam mere saath kuch nahi kare ga Yuvaan said walking out of the cabin.

Krishna looked back at Yuvaan. Par kyu? She asked.

Yuvaan had a sad smile on his face Kyunke Bari Dadi ko nahi pasand ke hum ziyada close ho

Sayyam felt bad looking at him Yuvaan aise koi baat nahi hai…

Lekin Bari Dadi tho nahi hai aur muje pata hai Suhani aunty sent us here so you two can enjoy yourselves without Bari Dadi interfering! Krishna spoke up enthusiastically.

Sayyam and Yuvaan looked at each other.

I don’t mind that, it’s been too long man Yuvaan put his hand on Sayyam’s shoulder, smiling at him.

Sayyam nodded with a small smile Yes it has.

Krishna jumped in excitement and took hold of both the boys arms Chalo phir sab saath enjoy karte hai!

Baby was observing all this from the side. She really didn’t care much about it, other than Krishna getting close to Yuvaan. She walked up to them and forced herself between them, linking arms with Yuvaan.

Chalo Yuvaan Baby smiled sweetly at him.

They walked towards the main ski area, admiring the beautiful views on the way. Krishna looked around in awe at the magnificent snow-capped mountains surrounding them. She saw white as far as the eye could see, the sun shining brightly upon the snow, making it glisten. She felt the cold crisp air hit her face, as she tried to warm her numb cheeks with her gloved hands. Sayyam had been staring at her the whole time; more fascinated by the many cute expressions she made, then the views.

Once they arrived, they got all their gear, ready to ski. Sayyam and Yuvaan became totally absorbed in their own world, being taken back to the time they were best friends. Krishna smiled looking them; it warmed her heart seeing them so freely laughing and joking about after so many years. She didn’t want to disturb them, but Baby did.

Yuvaan muje bhi ski karna hai! Baby shouted, walking up to him.

Ok Baby, I’ll teach you He replied.

Krishna also walked up to them Sayyam tum muje…

Don’t expect me to teach you, ok? Sayyam cut her off, glaring at her.

She frowned at him, thinking how someone’s mood can change so fast.

Yuvaan laughed Tum fikar na karo Krishna I’ll teach you along with Baby.

Good luck with that Sayyam scoffed walking away.

Krishna stuck her tongue out at him, as she watched him walk away. Baby was not happy with Yuvaan teaching Krishna too, she couldn’t stand seeing her getting close to him again. So as Krishna was about to ski down a slope, Baby pushed her, making her fall. Sayyam came out of nowhere, rushing to her side. Krishna felt a little light headed, from the pain and was not sure what was going on. She only saw Sayyam’s face as he picked her up and took her back to the cabin.

He placed Krishna down on the sofa and got the first aid kit. Krishna felt a little uncomfortable, as he lifted her leg up. Nahi mein khud kar lo…

Chup! Sayyam looked at her sternly, cutting her off and started tending to her wound.

She looked on, puzzled by his care and concern for her. He had a soft expression on his face, that she had never seen before as he gently held her foot, trying his best not to hurt her. She started getting an overwhelming feeling she couldn’t understand. Before she knew it tears started welling up in her eyes as her throat dried up. She was shocked by her own reaction, wiping away the single tear running down her cheek. It dawned on her that from the time she had returned, Sayyam was the one who saved her from every problem that befell her. She was certain he cared for her, but why did he act so harsh towards her? She wanted to know.

Sayyam looked up to see tears in her eyes. Krishna tum roh kyu rahi ho, tumhe dard ho raha hai? He asked worriedly.

She laughed lightly, rubbing her eyes Sorry muje khud nahi pata mein kyu roh rahi hoon.

Sayyam raised an eyebrow at her, but got back to what he was doing.

Once he was done, he got up ready to leave.

Krishna grabbed his arm stopping him. Wait Sayyam…tum meri fikar itni kyu karte ho?

Sayyam looked at her, pulling his arm away. She stared at him intensely, waiting for an answer. What kind of question is this to ask so suddenly? Sayyam thought to himself, feeling uneasy as she continued to stare at him.

Umm…kyunke…tum meri dost ho Krishna spoke in unison with him.

She smiled at the surprise look on his face. Aise kya dekh rahe ho, tumhara yehi humesha answer hota hai…par Sayyam tum apni DOST se itna rudely kyu baat karte ho? She questioned him.

He looked at her, as she stared back at him with her big brown innocent eyes. This girl had no idea of the effect she was having on him or the amount of control it took for him just being around her. It was both emotionally and physically exhausting for him.

Ziyada mat socho aur bas aram karo He said facing the other way, avoiding the disappointed look she would have on her face. He walked out before any more questions were thrown at him. Krishna was left alone, feeling a mix of emotions she could not decipher.

A couple of days had past and Krishna sat on the floor against the fire in the living room. The fire gave the small room a soft glow, making her feel warm and relaxed. She ran her hand on the soft rug she was sat on, her other hand occupied with the novel she was engrossed in. This was her evening routine, being on her own. Much to Krishna’s annoyance she was still stuck inside due to her foot injury and of course Sayyam. Since she couldn’t ski, he had also decided to occupy his time to doing his work, shutting himself away in the bedroom. Yuvaan and Baby had left for dinner, Yuvaan had invited her too, but she didn’t want to be a third wheel. She put her book down, looking outside the window.

Some honeymoon…why can’t he at least take me out for dinner? She sighed burying her head into her arms that rested on her knees.

Krishna? She heard her name and looked up to see Sayyam standing by the door.

He came and sat down next to her, placing two cups between them.

Tum yaha?…aur ye kya hai? She pointed at the cups.

Hot chocolate…it’s famous around here so I thought I’d buy it for you, you used to like this right? He replied picking a cup and taking a sip.

He glanced over at her and saw the puzzled look on her face. He didn’t blame her, he had ignored her for the last 2 days, trying to keep a distance and busying himself with work instead. But seeing her sulking all the time had got to him and he felt bad, after all it was not her fault that they were here.

Kal hum bahir chale ge and we’ll do some sightseeing, ok? Krishna’s face lit up, as she looked at Sayyam.

Really?! Sayyam simply nodded, looking towards the fireplace.

He was doing it again, being rude to her and then suddenly acting kind towards her, she was confused by it all, but ignored it for now.

Thank you Sayyam She smiled at him sweetly, taking a sip of her hot chocolate.

Mmm this is so good, I can’t believe tumhe yaad tha! She beamed.

He could see her from the corner of his eye and couldn’t help, but smile to himself, pleased he made her happy.

How’s your foot? He asked much to Krishna’s surprise.

Its better, I can walk fine now She replied.

Nothing was said after that, but it was a comfortable silence as they enjoyed their hot chocolate, listening to the sound of the crackling fire and the wind howling outside.

Waise Sayyam can I ask you something? Krishna spoke up after sometime.

What? He asked.

She hesitated to speak, but she had this question on her mind for a long time. Tum ghar chor ke kyu jana chahte ho?

Sayyam was surprised by her question, but knew she would ask him this someday. Muje woh apna ghar nahi lagta Krishna, woh Birla family ka hai aur mein ek Birla nahi hoon.

Krishna understood where he was coming from, even though Suhani and Yuvraaj were like her parents, she too felt like an outsider at times.

Lekin Suhani aunty ko kaise chor ke ja sakte ho? Sayyam looked at Krishna, she could see the hint of sadness in his eyes, he was trying so hard to hide from her.

Unke paas Yuvaan aur Yuvaani hai, she won’t miss me He replied quietly.

Krishna felt horrible, seeing Sayyam like this for the first time.

Sayyam har bache ki jaga alag hoti hai aur tumhe koi replace nahi kar sakta She tried to explain.

Nahi mere jaise bache se door hi rehna ziyada sahi hoga maa ke liye He said looking down.

Krishna was getting a little frustrated and stood up, why would he think of himself this way?

Suhani aunty wouldn’t have given birth to you if she didn’t want you! Tumse woh uthna hi pyar karthi hai jithna Yuvaani aur Yuvaan se!

Sayyam was taken aback by Krishna’s sudden outburst. Why was she doing this? Why was she showing so much concern for him? Sayyam also stood up, starting to feel uncomfortable from this conversation.

Dekho tumhe itni meri fikhar karni ki zaroorat nahi hai, hum sirf ek saal tak saath hai, tho itna personal na ho He said this and left the room.

Krishna wanted to slap him. Why did he always run away, whenever she tried to talk to him properly? She took a deep breath, trying to calm down. Fine, if he doesn’t want to get too personal with me, I’ll keep my distance from him too…let’s just look forward to tomorrow Krishna, she told herself, getting back to reading her novel.
