Mehendi Highlights
The entire house was decorated with flowers and lights. Everyone was wearing colour coordinated outfits..All the ladies were wearing shades of red and all the men were wearing black.The men had strictly been told that the function was not for them to attend, but they were adamant. They had struck up a deal with the ladies that in exchange for them being granted entry they too would aply mehendi on their hands. Even Yuvraaj who hated the smell of mehendi agreed. Saiyyam was noticeably missing from the function and this had concerned everyone. After all what was the point of staging the drama if the audience was missing. Krishna had even stated that she didn’t want to continue with the function, Suhani seemed to agree with her..this time Yuvraaj was the voice of reason. He explained to everyone that even though saiyyam was not here to witness this, the mehendi function was an important part of the marriage rituals and the marriage between his daughter and his son should be carried out as per all the rituals..The function ahd soon begun and all the men had their respective wife’s initials drawn on their hands.. Krishna was getting her bridal mehendi on and she was somewhat unsuccessfully trying to get the lady applying mehendi to write S instead of R on her hand. Raj noticed some tension between them and went over to help.
Lady: Par ma’m mujhe dulhe ke initials likne he. Aur dulhe ka naam toh Raj hai na..( But ma’m I have to write the groom’s initials and the grooms name is Raj isn’t it)
Krishna: Dekhiye yeh meri mehendi hai na aap bas wohi likiye jo main kehe rahi hoon (Look its my mehensi you just write what im telling you)
Lady: But Ma’m…(She was cut off)
Raj: Excuse me…
Lady: Yes..aap ki Raj hai na.. aap hi inhe samjha…(you are raj right you make her understand)
Raj: KHAMOSH..(SILENCE)
Everyone started staring at Raj.. Both the lady and Krishna looked perplexed..
Raj: Aap ko S likne mein itni problem ho rahi hai na..toh aaj main aap sab koh ek sach bata na chahoonga….aap logon ne who picture dekhi..sharukh khan ki..Rab ne bana di Jodi.. (You are having a problem with writing S. then ill tell you all something today..have you all seen that movie..the shahrukh khan one. Rab ne bana di Jodi)
Yuvani: Yeh phirse shuru hogaya….(He has started his filmy talk again)
Random Lady: Haan humne dekhi hai (Yes ive seen it)
Raj: Haan toh batai ye..uss film me shahrukh khan ke kirdar ka naam kya ta(so tell us what was shahrukh khan’s character name in the movie)
Everyone: RAJ!
Raj: offo woh toh baad mein ladki patane ke chakar mein ta na..actual naam kya ta…( no no that was to win over the girl he had changed the name. what was his actual name…)
Suhani: Surinder!
Raj: Sahi jawaab..(correct answer)
He looked over at the mehendi lady…
Raj: mera naam kya hai..( Whats my name)
Lady: Raj..
Raj: wohi toh…wohi toh mein bolne ki koshish kar raha hoon Raj naam Krishna ko patane ke liye ta…mera asli naam Sukhi hai…sukhi.. ab toh koi problem nahi hai na..ab aap S likh sakte hain na…( That’s the thing.. that’s what im trying to tell you, Raj was just a name I came up with to impress Krishna my actual name is sukhi..now there’s no problem right..now you can right s)
The whole room erupted with laughter, and while laughing the mehendi lady agreed to write S
After a while all the ladies had finished applying their mehendi..and all the men gathered for an impromptu dance number..They danced along with the ladies on mehendi lagake rakhna doli saja ke rakhna..
After the performance, yuvani called Raj..
Yuvani: Sukhi….thank you..Krishna ki mehendi main S likh wane ke liye..( Sukhi…thank you for getting s written on Krishna’s mehendi)
Raj gave her an irritated look and before he could reply she held out her hand and showed him her mehendi..
Yuvani: Kaisi hai..( How does it look)
Raj: Arey wah… kya mehendi lagai he yuvani ji…aur haan hamein sukhi math bulana..warna hum dukhi ho jayenge..( Oh wow. What mehendi you have put yuvani..and don’t call me sukhi(Happy) or else ill become Dukhi(Sad))
The fun and laughter was put to a stop by the sudden opening of the main door..Saiyyam had entered..looking disheveled and disoriented.. He was drunk..He still had a bottle in his hand..He took a sip and started to ealk towards the crowd..
Kriyam moment (Mehendi)
Everyone looked at saiyyam. It was a look of guilt, shame and slight pity..Nobody had bothered to check on him..Everyone just assumed he was hinding in his room. No one had considered the possibility that he would seek comfort in his old friend..
Saiyyam: Mujhe Krishna se baat karni hai..( I want to talk to Krishna)
Everyone was looking at each other unsure of what to do. Krishna was already making her way towards him when Raj got to him..
Raj: Yaar tu baad mein baat kar le na..chal apne kamre mein chal..(Buddy, you can talk tomorrow, let go to your room)
Saiyyam pushed Raj aside and looked to Krishna and exclaimed..
Saiyyam: HUMARA KAMRA! Who hamara karma hain.. mera aur Krishna ka…par Krishna koh ab uss kamrein mein nahi rehene….isliye who chali gayi….(now standing infront of Krishna) chalo Krishna humare kamre mein chalo..mujhe tumse kuch kehena hai…(OUR ROOM! That room is ours. Mine and Krishna’s. But she doesn’t want to stay in that room anymore..That’s why she left…lets go Krishna to our room..i have to tell you something)
Krishna stood with a sad look on her face. A look of exasperation, despair and love…So much love.. Saiyyam tried to take krishna’s hand..
Krishna: Saiyyam mujhe haat mat laga na! (saiyyam don’t touch my hand)
Saiyyam looked at Krishna. It was a look nobody had seen before. He looked vulnerable and hurt..A tear rolled down his cheek as he frantically made his way to his room…Krishna followed almost immediately….
Saiyyam entered the room and drank what was left of the bottle and threw it onto the ground…It shattered into a millions pieces…Like his heart he thought…
Krishna came in and saiyyam signaled her to stop..
Saiyyam: Kyun aayi ho tum yahan…jab maine bulaya tab toh aane ka koi khayal nahi ta..itna aasan hai tumhare liye..mujhe apni zindagi se nikal na..ab toh tumhe mera choona bhi acha nahi lagta..afterall woh haq toh ab mera nahi hai na…Tumhe pata aaj maine sharab kyun pi…kyunki mujhe dard ho raha ta..dil mein aag lagi hui hai Krishna….aur main chahakar bhi khush nahi ho para hoon…tumhe apne khayalon se apni zindagi se nahi nikaal paa raha hoon….tumne kaha ta ki tumhe mujhse pyar hai..kaisa pyar…pyar main koi kisi ko itna dard deta hai kya…koi kisi koh apne aap se itna door karta hai…itne dino tak main yeh samjh ne ki koshish kar raha ta ki tum muhjse sach mein pyar karti ho ya nahin… aur itne dino se mujhe sirf tum aur raj hi dikhai de rahe ho. Kabhi ek saath baate karte hue kabhi Mazak karte hue..kabhi ek doosre ki baahon mein aur aaj…Aaj uski naam ki mehendi kharab na ho jaye isliye tumne mera haat hata diye…Kehene ko to tum natak kar rahi ho..par kya ab bhi tum yahi kaho ge ki yeh dikhawa he. Ki tum mujhse pyar karti ho..(Why are you here. Just now when I called you, you had no intention of coming here..is it really that easy for you to kick me out of your life..and now you don’t even like it when I touch you. After all that is someone else’s right now isn’t it. Do you know why I got drunk today..because I was in pain, there was this burning feeling in my heart Krishna..and im trying to be hay for you but I cant..i cant get you out of my head..out of my life..you told me that you love me…what kind of a love is this..do you cause each other pain when you’re in love, do you push that person away when you’re in love..all these days I was trying to understand if you really do love me, but all I kept seeing was you and Raj. Sometimes you’re chatting or laughing..sometimes you’re embracing each other..and today..you pushed my hand away so that the mehendi you put in his name wont get spoiled…You say that you’re just pretending..but will you still day that this is all fake..that you still love me)
Krishna stood still.She felt so many emotions in that one moment..she wasn’t sure what to say..
Krishna: Chalo ek baat toh tumne sahi kaha..maine tumhara haat apni mehendi bachane ke liye hata ya tha…woh mehendi jis mein maine apne jeevansaathi ka naam likha hai..woh mehendi jis main sirf aur sirf ek insaan ka haq hai…( Well atleast you were right about one thing… I did move your hand away to save my mehendi. The mehendi in which I wrote down the name of my soulmate..the menhendi that only one person has his right on)
Saiyyam felt a rush of anger..he thought to himself why Krishna was torturing him even more…He was about to approach her when she slowly held up her hand revealing a large S on the lower right corner of her mehendi…His expression immediately changed..He flashed Krishna a smile then immediately started brushing his hair through his head…. He came and stood really close to Krishna grabbed and grabbed her arms..
Saiyyam: Main haar gaya Krishna…tak chukka hoon main apne aap se ladte ladte..bohot koshish ki apne aap ko samjhane ki..ki main tumhare layak nahi hoon. Tum meri zindagi se chali jao yahi yumhare liye behetar hai..main tumhe khush nahi rak sakta…tum mujhse pyar nahi kar sakti..Aur shayad yeh sab..ab bhi bhi sach hai…Par Krishna ek aur sach hai..jisse maine baag ne ki bohot koshish ki…MUJHE TUMHARI ZAROORAT HAI…main tumhare bina nahi jee sakta..KRISHNA I…..( Ive lost Krishna .im tired of fighting with myself trying to convince myself that I sont deserve you, that its best for you if im not in your life..that I cant kee you happy that you cant love me..and maybe all this is true..but there’s another truth that ive been trying to run from I NEED YOU..i cant live without you..KRISHNA I…)
Krishna put her finger on his lip..She was in tears…she had been longing for this moment for so long..but it didn’t feel quite right..
Krishna: Saiyyam, yeh sune ke liye maine bohot intezaar kiya hai…par aise nahi..tum nashi mein ho..Tumhe mujhe poore hosho hawaaz mein sache man se apna na hoga saiyyam….( Saiyyam ive waited a long time for you to say these words..but not like this..you’re drunk. I want you to accept me when you are sober and fully aware of what you’re doing….)
She then moved towards the bed and gestured him to come. He went obediently and she tucked him in bed and kissed him on the forhead..
Krishna: Main tumhara intezaar karoongi saiyyam…iss baar please apne dil ki sun lena….( I’ll wait for you saiyyam Please listen to you heart this time)
