Dusk had fallen when Kavita walked out of the exit gate of the busy Mumbai airport. A chilly winter welcomed her for the very first time to the-City Of Dreams. The temperature must have been very close to 8 degrees. Adding to the winter chill was the cold breeze which was blowing that evening , compelling everyone to pull out their jackets. Enjoying the initial few moments, Kavita let her body feel and embrace the cold surrounding her, but she could not bear it for long. Soon she pulled out her jacket and jipped it up to her neck. The foggy breath that she exhaled was visible. It was that cold.
“Kidhar jaana hai madamji?” a taxi driver halted from back.
“Annata Humanversity, Gulmnohar road le challenge bhaiya?” Kavita spoke.
“Haan madamji”, the taxi drivers said while keeping her bags in the taxi.
After ther taxi reached her destination, Kavita paid the driver and got off the taxi. She looked at the big cream colored building before getting in. she walked towards the reception and exchanged smile with the receptionist.
“Good evening madam! How can I help you?” asked the receptionist with a sweet smile.
“I want to meet DR. Sanjay Verma”, said Kavita politely.
“Do you have any appointment fixed with him?” asked the receptionist.
“I am Kavita Roy from Grant Medical college”, said Kavita.
“I am extremely sorry madam. I could not recognize you. come with me, I will show you DR. Sqanjay’s cabin”, the receptionist spoke apologetically.
“Ma’am here’s the cabin”, said the receptionist before leaving.
“May! I come in sir” ,Kavita knocked on the door.
“Oh yes! Kavita come in. I was waiting for you only”, said DR. Sanjay Verma.
“Sir are you sure that I can handle him?’ Spoke Kavita nervously.
“Addiction is a stage when people do not have control over what they are doing, taking or using. Their addiction may reach a point at which it is harmful and it requires immediate attention from drug addiction treatment. Moreover he was not a drug addict from the beginning. That incident made him alcoholic”,Dr.Sanjay spoke in a sigh.
“Sir can I see him?”Kavita asked.
“Ya sure! Come this way”,Dr.Sanjay said showing her the way.
Somewhere in the silence of a barely visible foggy evening, he was sitting on the staircase in front of the room. There is a row of rooms and in front of those rooms is a huge lawn. He is wearing a heavy blanket to text protect himself from cold. He has long hair and a beard which he hasn’t shaved for months. It appears he is not doing well. He was sitting still and hia gaze was on something which he was holding in his hands. There is no one around him. A dead silence persists and the only audible sound is the sound of the night. He then walked to hia room and slept Covering his head. He slips into his blanket squeezing his hands in between his legs and sleeps.
Kavita and Dr.Sanjay walk back to the cabin.
“Sir! To be his counceller,I.must know his past”,Kavita said.
“His past is very painful”, DR. Sanjay said looking at the ceeling.
“Sir if you don’t want to say then it’s okay”, Kavita said.
“No! You must know about him. But don’t blame me if your trust on love disappears after listening this”,Dr.Sanjay spoke harshly.
Kavita just nodded and sat on the chair.
Flashback
Three years ago
Sanskar was sitting in his office desk when his eyes caught someone’s back. She was the girl who entered the manager’s cabin. Sanskar was recited by her white shirt under a black over coat and blue denim, those earphones wires which ran across her united hair that danced in sync with her shaving head and her tapping legs. He could see only her back and he felt a sudden rage to look at her face. Finally after some time she came out with the manager. Sanskar looked at her- her black eyeliner made her look even more beautiful. She blinked her eyes and smiled. Sanskar looked at her. His heart skipped a beat. Was it a dream? Some strange feelings went through him. She looked at him, their eyes met and it was as if their souls joined. She smiled at him. . It astounded him. He felt something that he had felt never before. Sanskar fell for her at the very first sight. There are no words to describe her beauty. There are no words to describe how special she or his love for her is. Putting those feelings into words will mean defining it and that would also mean limiting it. The truth is there is neither a limit nor a definition for love. The manager introduced her as the new employee. That girl was allotted the desk in front of Sanskar. Sanskar was standing in the basement when he heard a voice from back.
“Hey! How are you?” the same girl chirped from behind.
“Hello I am fine. I am Sanskar Maheswari and you?” Sanskar asked forwarding his hands.
“I am Swara Gadodia. I have recently shifted here from Kolkata. Mumbai is a completely alien city for me. Eh-will you do a favor on me?” Swara said shaking his hands.
Swara and Sanskar-Made for each other.
“Yeah sure consider me as your friend and say what type of help do you want?” Sanskar said.
“Can you drop me my house?” She asked.
Sanskar was blank. He was not able to reply also. He was just watching her lips move. She was staring him. He lost control over his heart when he saw that beautiful lips smile that spread across her face. The depth in her face. He had really started loving her. The feeling of romance. The feeling of being together. He loves her. He was sure that he loves her. The moment he saw her, he fell into his trap, he has lost.
“It’s fine if you can’t drop me”, Swara again said.
“Ya! Sure! I will drop you”, Sanskar smiled.
Sanskar drove to Aerol where her home was. Swara bid bye to him and got off the car.
~~~~~~~~~~~
“So are you single?” Sanskar asked Swara in the cafeteria during their lunch time.
“Yes! But what happened?” Swara said innocently.
“Nothing”, Sanskar just nodded his head.
“What about you?” Swara questioned back.
“Yes! I had one girlfriend in junior college but we broke up. Now I am completely single”, Sanskar said.
“Say more about you”, Sanskar added.
“I don’t have much to say. I am originally from Kolkata,I did my schooling there. I shifted here after my Dada got unwell and I got a job here. I have a younger sister and I have to look after her education. My family depends on me”, Swara said softly.
“Do you share your everything with everyone or am I special? ” Sanskar winked.
“Shut up! You are my best friend. Okay bye! Now I have to go”, Swara said getting up.
She took out her IPod and plugged it into her ears and slipped her white purse on to her right shoulder. She pulled out her band and loosened her hair. Sanskar stood there noticing Swara going away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Our company is going to sign a contract and for that five of our employee will go on a trip to Manali where the contract will be signed”, said the Manager in the conference room.
“I want all of you to strictly follow the official dress code. Many of you are violating office rules; I will take strict action against them. And yes the five employees who are going on the trip are Sameer,Riya,Mohit,Sanskar and Swara. The guidelines will be shortly put up on the bulletin board,have a look at it. Remember, I don’t have any complain from the HR”, the manager yelled at the team and went out.
“I hate this manager. He is a utter moron. Where does he get the energy to speak so much?” Sanskar said in frustration.
Swara handed him lemonade and she too took one sip of it.
“Its okay,chill!” She said squeezing her eyes as she pronounced chill because of the tangy lemonade.
“So are you ready to go in the trip?” Sanskar asked.
“Do we have any choice?” Swara replied sternly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They boarded the train and took their seats. Sanskar kept the luggage under the berth and settled down. Swara was wearing blue denim and a loose white T-shirt. She was looking gorgeous. A cool breeze blew through the open window which lifted a few strands of Swara’s hair and brought them to her face. Sanskar slowly pushed them behind her neck and gently ran his fingers through her hair. Swara looked at him shocked and Sanskar realized what blunder he has done.
“Sorry! I just did it as a friend. Believe me I had no bad intentions”, Sanskar stammered.
“It’s okay”, Swara said in a low voice.
As they sat next to each other, Sanskar noticed that she was looking visibly uncomfortable. He could see the discomfort in her face, in her body language, in her exaggerated smile and even in her gestures as she repeatedly smoothened her hair. So Sanskar wished her good night and went to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The contract was signed and everyone was in a jolly mood. They had organized a small party for celebrating their success. But Swara and Sanskar skipped going to the party as Swara was unwell. Swara insisted Sanskar to go the party but Sanskar denied. Both of them were in Swara’s room.
“Sanskar! I am feeling very bored”, Swara said in a childish manner.
“So? You had headache right? You take rest”, Sanskar said.
“Haan but its okay now. I am completely fine. Let’s go to the party”, Swara said with a smile on her face.
“Party must be about to finish now”, Sanskar spoke.
“So kya karien? Let’s play truth and dare”, Swara said folding her legs and sitting on the bed.
Sanskar nodded his head indicating a yes.
“What’s your best moment in office life?” Swara asked.
“The moment I saw you”, Sanskar answered.
Swara looked at Sanskar and she got a hint about his feeling and deep somewhere in her heart she too had some feeling for him.
“Really?” Swara asked.
“My turn now. Do you have a boyfriend?” Sanskar asked.
“I knew this would be your first question. No I don’t have any boyfriend”, Swara answered.
“Do you have any crush on someone?” Sanskar again questioned her.
“Umm not crush, I am in love with someone”, Swara answered smartly.
“Which type of girl do you want?” Swara questioned back.
Like you’,Sanskar said.
“I want you”, he muttered slowly but it was audible to her.
Her heart was happy to listen this. But she was sad that Sanskar was running away from his feelings. She decided now she will jump straight to the point. She got a golden opportunity to make Sanskar propose her when Sanskar choose dare.
“Sanskar! I know you love me and you want to propose me but you are afraid. Now it’s your dare to propose me”, Swara said in one breath.
Sanskar was looking at Swara with dropped jaw.
“I never believed in love at first sight but I fell for you at the very first sight. You are my sweet friend and I love you exactly for who you are. Your presence had added value to my life and I hope it continue like this forever. You are special to me,you make me feel completed. I will never leave you alone. I love you Swara”, Sanskar said.
When you set your heart on something and put all your efforts into making your dream turn into a reality, nothing can achieving it.
Swara had tears of happiness in her eyes. Words failed her. She just managed to say- i love you too.
Tumhe apna banane ka junoon
Sar pe hai, kab se hai
Mujhe aadat bana lo ik buri
Kehna ye tumse hai
Jism ke samandar mein
Ik lehar jo thehari hai
Usme thodi harqat hone do
Shayari sunaati inn do nasheeli aankhon ko
Mujhko paas aake padhne do
Ishq ki khwahishon mein
Bheeg lo baarishon mein
Aao na…
Tumhe paakar na khone ka junoon
Sar pe hai, kab se hai
Mujhe nazron mein rakh lo tum kahin
Kehna ye tumse hai
It was one of the magical mmoment for them. It was one of those moments that get etched in your memory for lifetime. They looked into each other’s eyes for one more time before their lips met. His arms envolved her into a hug. If anything could make her feel safe,it was a hug from him. She broke then kiss as quickly as it began. He leaned forward again as if seeking her approval. This time she too leaned closer and kissed him passionately. Everything else seemed inconsequential that moment. It was a moment that that would treasure all their lives. That kiss was to be a start of their beautiful relationship.
Tumhe apna banane ka junoon
Sar pe hai, kab se hai
Sar pe hai, kab se hai
Hmm.. rokna nahi mujhko
Zidd pe aa gayi hoon main
Iss qadar deewanapan chadha
Dekho na yahaan aake
Mera haal kaisa hai
Toot ke abhi tak na juda
Ab sambhalna nahi hai
Jo bhi hai wo sahi hai
Aao na…
Tumhe khud se milaane ka junoon
Sar pe hai, kab se hai
Mujhe rehne do apne paas hi
Kehna ye tumse hai
Tumhe apna banane ka junoon
Sar pe hai, kab se hai
The next morning Swara woke up in Sanskar’s arms content.
“I will never forget last night that we spent together. When we will be old together, I will look back at my life and remember this trip as one of the most memorable”, Sanskar said.
“I want to marry you”, he added.
“What? It’s too early for marriage”, Swara said as she felt little uneasy at the mention of marriage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was almost three months of Sanskar and Swara’s relationship, but there were many conflicts in their thoughts.
“Why do always girls have to change their surnames and go to the groom’s house?” Swara said.
“It’s a custom Shona. We cannot change it”, Sanskar said holding her hand.
“But I don’t want to leave my parents. Moreover my sister’s education depends on me”, Swara said.
“But we have to settle back with my parents after our marriage”, Sanskar said making her comfortable.
“Why don’t you come and stay with us”? Swara asked.
“It’s impossible!”, Sanskar answered.
“Then let’s leave at our own house”, Swara said.
“No! My parents need me at this stage of their life! I can’t leave them alone”, Sanskar said.
“Then forget about marriage. Let’s be in normal relationship like this”, Swara spoke.
“No! We have to give a name to our relationship. Let’s do court marriage and after that we will think what we have to do next.
Tough not convinced but because of Sanskar Swara agreed for the court marriage.
They used to fight each day and cried blaming each other. It was an undefined state they were in. The start of their relationship was beautiful nut at the end; they found both of them were opposite sides of a wide gap. Love like life is so insecure. It moves in our lives and occupied its sweet space in our heart so easily. But it never guarantees that it will stay there forever. Probably that’s why it’s so precious.
Some days passed in a blur and the day of their wedding arrived. No boundaries could separate them now. The anxiety was finally over. Sanskar reached the registration office and called Swara but she did not pick up the call. Sanskar looked at his watch and saw Swara was running late. She should have reached by then. He got tensed. The clock strike 5 and they were late. Sanskar again called her but she did not answer. Sanskar was completely broken. She betrayed him. He trusted her a lot. He had many dreams but everything seemed futile now.
Paas aaye..
Dooriyaan phir bhi kam naa hui
Ek adhuri si hamari kahani rahi
Aasmaan ko zameen, ye zaroori nahi
Jaa mile.. jaa mile..
Ishq saccha wahi
Jisko milti nahi manzilein.. manzilein..
Rang thhe, noor tha
Jab kareeb tu tha
Ek jannat sa tha, yeh jahaan
Waqt ki ret pe kuch mere naam sa
Likh ke chhod gaya tu kahaan
Hamari adhuri kahani..
Hamari adhuri kahani..
Khushbuon se teri yunhi takra gaye
Chalte chalte dekho na hum kahaan aa gaye
Jannatein agar yahin
Tu dikhe kyon nahin
Chaand suraj sabhi hai yahaan
Intezar tera sadiyon se kar raha
Pyaasi baithi hai kab se yahan
Humari adhoori kahaani
Humari adhoori kahaani.
Devastated with this, he reached his home. after an hour he got a message. It was from Swara.
“ I know you were waiting for me but I did not came. I could not find the courage to do so. You are very diffeternet from me. I am not ready for marriage now. Recently we are fighting every day. So it’s better if we end our relationship here. Let’s break up. I will not be able to live with you but I can never for get you. I love you and will always love you. But I am sorry Sanskar this is the end of our relationship. Hamara saath yahin tak likha tha”.
Pyaas ka ye safar khatam ho jayega
Kuch adhura sa jo tha poora ho jayega
Jhuk gaya aasmaan
Mill gaye do jahaan
Har taraf hai milan ka samaa
Doliya hain saji, khushbuein har kahin
Padhne aaya Khuda khud yahaan..
Hamari adhuri kahani
Hamari adhuri kahani.
The sand clock had dropped on the floor and broken. Sanskar cannot believe this. He called her but her phone was switched off. He even went to her house but it was locked.
Passing days made Sanskar alcoholic. He used to sleep drugged by alcohol but even alcohol could not help him forget Swara. He sinked into depression and his mental conditions were bad. One day some people found him lying unconscious on the road drugged and brought him there to the rehabation centre.
Flashback ends.
The final words of DR. Sanjay brought tears in Kavita’s eyes.
“It must be very painful for him”, Kavita said.
“Yes! But we have to bring him back to realty soon”, DR. Sanjay said.
‘He will soon be back in colors and I promise you that I will make him well soon”, Kavita said while getting up to leave.
Love is pain! Love is pure! Love is sacrifice!
