Recap : Manik slapped Nandini
Let’s continue
When Aliya comes down, (Manik) “I will drop you home, Aliya. By the way, how is she doing?”
She took a deep breath. She screamed in my ears instantly.
(Aliya) “Just because, other than your mom, your cousins and I, you have never been around a girl, doesn’t give you the right to treat a girl like that. I heard from Madhyam that even
Mr.Roy (manager) complained that your PA’s male or female or unable to tolerate your hot-headedness. Try to be more patient.”
(Manik) “Hey, what hot-headedness? They were incompetent. If I was hot-headed, none of the directors would have Approved of me taking over from mom. Anyway, how is she doing?”
(Aliya) “Sigh. I have given her a sedative. She is shocked by your actions. Obviously, no one would have treated her like this. I suggest you be gentle with her. Don’t create any problems.”
(Manik) “Ok.”
(Aliya) “Manik, Do you care about her?”
(Manik’s POV) I knew she would ask this. My actions were a surprise to me. I don’t even know if I was myself when I rushed to the hotel.
(Manik) “I don’t know, Aliya. I just don’t know what I was thinking. She is the only girl to have made me do this. I never cared about other girls and what they do. I don’t know why I did that.”
(Aliya) “Think, Manik. She may be the one for you.”
(Manik) “Don’t nag like mom. You have been having way too many dinners with mom. She wants me to get married already and that is precisely why Nandu is staying here.”
(Aliya sarcastically) “Nandu, eh?”
(Manik) “What? Why is it that all of you have problem with me calling her Nandu? It sounds better than Nandini.”
(Aliya) “Even after, she told you to call her Nandini?” Annoying Aliya!
(Manik) “Yes. I like the name Nandu better than Nandin and please chuck this topic Aliya. Don’t play matchmaker here.”
(Aliya) “But, did aunty send her here? Aunty is not the type of person to play matchmaker without discerning about the other person? Does she know her personally?”
(Manik) “Apparently, she hasn’t even seen Nandu. What I heard from Mr. Roy, she was a child of an acquaintance. She feels Nandu is the better candidate for me. Here you go. We have reached your place. Bye. Take care. See you later.”
(Aliya) “See you later, Manik. You are a perfect nincompoop, remember that. Bye.”
(Manik) Seeing her go inside, “Like you are any better! You never realised it until I told you, that Dhruv loves you and you love Dhruv. Now, got to go home and get some sleep. A long day it has been.”
(Manik’s POV) The next day morning, I was waiting for Nandu eagerly as it was her usual time to come down. But today the case was different. What was it?
As I was thinking, this unusualness made me scared. So I decided to run upstairs. But then as it is said “THINK OF THE DEVIL AND DEVIL APPEARS”. Same thing happened with my Nandu. She came down. She seemed dull. Maybe, she cried. She is coming to the breakfast table. It might rain today.
(Manik) “Hi, Nandu, How are feeling?
(In a low voice Nandini spoke) “Mr. Malhotra,”
(Manik) “Until you call me Manik, I don’t plan on responding.”
(Nandini) “I don’t plan on calling you that.”
(Manik’s POV) She didn’t make her voice sterner like she usually does.
(Manik) “Then, I am not talking.”
(Nandini) “How Old Are You Anyway To Act Like A Child? Fine, Manik, is there a medical shop nearby?” She looked wobbly. She supported her head.
(Manik) “I Am twenty five. You act too much of an adult to say I act like a child. Nope. You need to go some blocks away for it. Why?”
(Nandini) “I need some medicines. Can you tell me where it is?”
(Manik) “I have some. For what do you need medicines?”
(Nandini) “Fever.”
(Manik all worried) “Fever? You have got fever? Here, let me check. (Fever! No wonder she was quiet and is eating breakfast here.) Nandu, you are burning up. What are you doing moving around? You should be lying in bed.”
(Nandini) “It is nothing. 102-103 F is tolerable. I need to go out. So, can you give me the tablets or tell me where the pharmacy is?”
(Manik) “102-103 F! Wait. Let me get the thermometer. Here, check it. Eat at least four bread toasts and go to bed. I will bring you the tablets.”
(Nandini as usual being stubborn was about to get up and she said) “PLEASE DON’T MAKE A FUSS… (Thermometer pushed into the mouth) I NEED TO GO OUT. I CAN’T STAY AND SLEEP.”
(Manik’s POV) She was angry but she sat down immediately after she shouted. She must be feeling dizzy with the fever.
(Manik immediately) “Don’t talk. Tablets, tablets, where did I keep them. Yes I got it,Now, your temperature, 104 F. If it keeps increasing, you might die.”
(Nandini) “Don’t worry. I won’t die so easily. Anyway, I need to get going.”
Manik blocked her way.
(Manik) “No. You are not going anywhere. Get to bed, Right Now. Who will answer Rishabh, if you faint on the road? Here, eat them.”
(Nandini) “Thanks. Bye.” She pushed me off.
(Manik) “Nandu. Listen to me.”
She turned around, her face showed her annoyance.
(Nandini with all anger) “YOU LISTEN TO ME, I CANNOT MISS WORK. I HAVE NEVER CANCELLED A MEETING AND I DON’T INTEND TO. YOU CAN STAY HERE AND DO WHAT YOU WANT. YOU HAVE PEOPLE TO COVER FOR YOU AT WORK. I NEED TO WORK AND CAN’T SEND A SUBSTITUTE, OK?”
She looked like she was about to fall.
(Manik with full concern in his voice) “Nandu!!!”
(Manik’s POV) She couldn’t stand on her feet. She supported herself but holding the wall. She can get me angry and worried at the same time. She turned her back to me and started walking ahead. I stopped her.
(Manik asked) “Where do you have your meeting?”
(Nandini) “Just one. Why do you ask????????”
(Manik’s POV) Before she could finish her sentence, I carried her to the car.
(Manik) “Since you said I have people to cover for me, I am going to use them. I am staying with you all day.” She looked baffled.
(Nandini fidgeted) “I don’t need your help.”
(Manik’s POV) She tried to get out of the car but, I stopped her.
(Manik) “Sick people should just accept what is offered to them. Where are you meeting them?”
(Nandini) “Do you do this to all the sick people?”
(Manik’s POV) I could understand her sarcasm but somehow, I just don’t know why I am doing this. I must say, I am hopeless.
(Manik) “I just don’t like it when people are sick. So, where is the meeting?”
(Nandini) “In their office. Here is the address.” She pushed back the car seat and closed her eyes.
(Manik with a smirk) “We aren’t resisting now, are we?”
Nandini didn’t even move and then spoke “You are not going to listen to what I say. So, why should I waste my precious energy fighting you? I might as well use it in the meeting.”
(Manik) “Sleep till we get there.”
Manik drove her where she was having meeting and was waiting for her in the car.
