You may not always have a comfortable life, and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once, but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have. Because history has shown us that courage can be contagious, and hope can take on a life of its own.

Author’s POV
The eventide comes as a welcome lull in a fine opera.
The evening sun cast long shadows on the ground. The slanting rays of the setting sun gave a warm orange tinge to the sky. The atmosphere is filled with the faint chirping of the birds as they head towards their respected homes.
Standing by the window, Riddhima aimlessly watched all the shades of reds and oranges getting mixed with the blues and yellows. How they washed the buildings and trees with a gentle, golden glow. How they spread their beauty everywhere.
She shifts her gaze to a nearby park which is filled with the laughter of children. Some children running here and there while some with their parents heading towards their home. Her face aglow with the last orange rays before twilight beckons the stars. Her eyes full of tears, her lips bearing a lugubrious smile, just enough to show that she is sad, whatever the reason may be.
Making her way towards the bed, Riddhima watched the doctors and nurses in their white uniforms moving hither and thither her ward making arrangements for the new patient adjacent to her bed.
Hearing the vociferous, shrill and piercing cries of the new born babies at a distance, her eyes got welled up with tears. She could hear people happily congratulating each other while here her situation was totally opposite.
There is a day when someone gets a new life, but then comes a day which takes someone’s life.
“Sejal” she whispered as she brought her knees close to her chest and a lone tear escaped her eyes followed by many more.

The surgery was successfully completed. The doctor was busy giving instructions to the patient who underwent the surgery while the nursing staff was busy making the necessary arrangements to shift the patient in the new ward.
“Do not engage in prolonged periods of standing or walking during the first 7-10 days after surgery” the doctor said as Vansh absent-mindedly stared his left leg which was now covered with a white plaster cast.
“Get well soon” saying this the doctor went while Vansh was still the same, looking purposelessly at his plastered leg.
His life was going so smoothly, but his destiny played a game with it. In no time, his dreams got shattered and so was he, shattered.
“Vansh” called his father but there was no response from his side.
His name was called so many times but he became deaf ear to it as if he was hypnotized.
“Vansh” this time the voice was loud enough that broke his trance.
“What happened Vansh?” asked his mother in a concern-laced voice.
“Mom!” saying this he broke into tears.
His mother hugged him rubbing his back trying to calm him.
Seeing him crying, she felt very bad.
The one who could not tolerate someone’s sorrow was now lying in the pool of sorrow. Her Vansh who would always have an ear-to-ear smile on his face was now deprive of any emotion.
“Why are you crying?” she asked knowingly.
Vansh looked at his mother startled.
“Tell me” she urged him and further added, “Instead of keeping all your emotions in your heart, it would be better you pour them out. You will feel better.”
“Mom.. my.. dream.. my.. career.. everything.. everything.. shattered” he spoke between his sobs.
Her heart was pained seeing him such a broken condition.
Why won’t it pain? She was his mother and a mother can’t tolerate the tears in her child’s eyes.
“Cry as much as you want but remember this is the last time you are crying” said his mother as tears involuntarily made their way out of his eyes.
.
That day two souls cried their heart out.
They didn’t cry because they were weak, they cried because they have been strong for too long.
They cried because they knew that from now onwards the things won’t remain the same.
They cried because their lips couldn’t explain the pain they felt.

At night…
As night fell the blue haze of day lifted to reveal the stars underneath. Silvery white moonlight sprinkled on the ground. Stars shone as sugar spilt over black marble, glistening in the sun. The night’s aroma pervades the air, woven into a soft net, covering all the scenery inside.
The night sky was such a welcome sight.
Sitting by the window, Vansh gazes at those bright friends of the moon and their pattern that seems so fixed and yet ever-changing, distant lights to call his heart, to inspire dreams of other worlds.
His family looked at him from a distance. How he sat there emotionlessly, gazing the sky continuously without paying any attention to his surroundings. They couldn’t see their cheerful Vansh anymore but they can’t afford to see him him like this.
Feeling a weight on his shoulder, Vansh moves his head only to see his mother standing next to him keeping her hand on it. Shifting his eyes back at the night sky, he began gazing it again.
“Can you see those stars?” her mother asked.
“Yes, some of them are twinkling while some are moving around the moon, chasing the moonlight” Vansh replied in an unemotional tone looking at a night sky dotted with zillions of stars
“I can also see them break from the sky and falling down, just like me” he further added pointing his finger at a shooting star.
Hearing his broken reply, Uma’s motherly heart was screaming. But she needs to stay strong for her Vansh.
Taking a deep breath, she spoke,
“You know sometimes we are just like these shooting stars. We fall so that someone’s wish can come true. But that doesn’t means that you’ll give up.”
“I’m hopeless” came his instant reply.
“You have lost your dream not your hope!” exclaimed his mother.
“My dream was my hope. My dream got shattered and so is my hope.”
“Our dreams are not always our hope.
Hope is when we see the light despite all of the darkness.”
“Hope is when we see the beauty of the black night, how it embraces the stars as its family of the heavens.”
“Hope is when we realize that we have the power to see such beauty, to reach toward it with naked hearts and be elevated into better ways.”
“But I can’t” said Vansh getting teary-eyed.
“Even I thought the same when I lost my dreams” said his mother eyeing the moon.
To this statement Vansh looked at his mother quizzically who nodded her head and continued,
“I always dreamt to become a doctor but that dream remained a dream.”
“I hailed from a conservative family where good daughters never said no to their parents. When I completed my high school, I wanted to study further and make my dream come true, but my parents wanted me to get married. I couldn’t deny them. I happily gave into their demand but deep inside I was broken.”
This came as a surprise to Vansh. He looked at his mother as she narrated him her story.
“When there was no light, when there was nothing beyond the boundaries of my skin, your father came as my hope. He gave me love and respect. But the most precious thing he gave to me were you, Ishani and Sia, who strengthened my hope. That day I realized that sometimes god closes one door because he knew that you are worth so much more.”
Vansh was stunned after hearing this. His mother was also the one who went through the phase he was going through, but she stood strong and never left hope.
His mother, whom he believed to be strong was the strongest. If she can try then why can’t he. He will try and hope, hope for the best.
That moment he made his mind to stand strong.
“Now tell me, will you give up? Are you still hopeless?” she asked sadly and he mentally blamed himself for refreshing his mother’s wound.
Vansh shook his head.
“Words Vansh, I want words” she mimicked Vansh.
“Mom! I’m full of hope” he said as he smiled teary-eyed and took his mother in a bone-crushing hug.
“Are we free to join you both?” asked Ishani and Sia like a child.
Uma extended her hand welcoming them to join.
“Between you are fully free to join me and Angre in business” said Ajay as he moved towards the mother-child duo and.
“Yes, then I will have the full authority to call you boss” added Angre happily.
“And Vansh you were saying me to find a new name. I’ve thought so many names like Rohit, Ishaan, no that sounds similar to Ishani. What about Advik, or Aarav, Ekansh, Darsh…” chirped Ahaan.
“Your namkaran (naming ceremony) can be done later, for now join us” said Vansh as he asked him to join the family hug.
“And what are you waiting for Angre. Come and join us” Vansh told Angre and they all came together for a family hug.
The entire family embraced each other promising to support each other in every thick and thin of life.
It might not be a perfect family, but they were perfect for each other. They were united.
Families are the compass that guides us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter.
Giving up is not an option when you have a family to support you.
Family is the place where hope survives.
In his gloomy life, Vansh’s family came as his hope, who enlightened his dark world.
His hope who glued his broken dreams.
His hope who made him.

.
Don’t cry when the sun is gone because the tears won’t let you see stars.
Don’t ruin your life by grieving over what you have lost, instead grab the opportunities to get what you deserve.
Aim high.
Work hard.
Never give up.
Never loose HOPE.
Have faith in god.
Have faith in yourself.
And LOVE YOUR FAMILY.
