The TV show “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” (QSQT) on Colors, produced by BBC and MAJ Productions, will go off the air on May 24. Despite efforts to deliver a complete story to viewers, the producers acknowledge the impact of the ongoing IPL season on the show’s TRPs.
Abhigyan expressed mixed feelings about the show’s early conclusion, noting, “It is always sad knowing the show is going off the air a little quicker than you expected, but it’s something very common these days. It’s especially during the IPL season that someone or another gets in trouble, and this time, it was our turn. But I don’t feel bad about it; it was a great story in the 90 episodes we covered, and along with the extended episodes, it went up to 100 episodes. We aired the main story in the ongoing episodes so that the audience doesn’t feel cheated.”
Mrinal added that the 45-minute time slots allowed most of the story to be showcased, pushing the show past 100 episodes. Abhigyan emphasized that “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” was a unique offering, though ultimately affected by the TRP game. Mrinal remarked, “I will only say that it is a love story, so an early 8–8:30 pm slot would have done better because it is not a heavy family drama show, nor is it a dark horror show. So getting an early slot would have helped.”
The producer couple also supported the idea of TV shows streaming online, citing it as a beneficial move for recovering costs. They explained, “Even if it runs online, it makes millions of views, and about half the cost is recovered from episodes. Though I don’t think online affects because both mediums have different audiences, people who watch TV still watch it.”
They pointed out that viewership preferences vary, with some audiences favoring traditional TV over personal devices. “For example, people like to switch on a TV and not watch on a personal device. The most viewership online is on mobile devices, and there are people who prefer TV more. During ‘Pishachini,’ we were told that it was a hit on Voot, for ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ we don’t know the numbers,” they concluded.
As QSQT wraps up, it leaves behind a legacy of compelling storytelling and the challenges of competing with major events like the IPL.
