Comedian Rajiv Thakur has been a key member of The Great India Kapil Show, a popular comedy series that enjoyed a successful run on Sony Entertainment Television, previously known as The Kapil Sharma Show. Earlier this year, the show transitioned from television to Netflix, a move that has sparked discussions about how the change affected its ratings.
In an interview with Telly Chakkar, Rajiv Thakur shared his thoughts on the show’s performance following its shift to the OTT platform. While the show was a hit on television, its success on Netflix has been questioned by some. Addressing these concerns, Rajiv stated, “There’s a misconception that the show didn’t do well on Netflix. On TV, it was accessible to everyone, but if it hadn’t performed on Netflix, a second season wouldn’t have been commissioned. Netflix is a highly professional company that relies solely on figures.”
When asked about the challenges he faced as an artist during the controversies surrounding Sunil Grover, Rajiv remained tight-lipped. However, he passionately defended the show’s performance on Netflix, despite the skepticism. He emphasized, “Netflix’s figures for The Kapil Sharma Show are strong. Those who love Kapil Sharma followed him to Netflix, and that itself is a success—being able to shift your audience to a different platform.”
According to online reports, The Great India Kapil Show Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on September 21 on Netflix. Alongside Kapil Sharma and Rajiv Thakur, the show boasts a stellar cast, including Archana Puran Singh, Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek, and Kiku Sharda.
