Ranvir Shorey Clarifies Stance on Jaya Bachchan’s Nepotism Debate

Bigg Boss OTT 3 star Ranvir Shorey had previously voiced his frustration when Jaya Bachchan supported Bollywood’s nepotism debate during a Parliament session at the height of the COVID-19 lockdown. Recently, the actor revisited this topic, offering a clarification that sheds new light on his stance.

In a candid interview with Siddharth Kanan, Ranvir Shorey explained that his earlier comments were not intended as an attack on Jaya Bachchan regarding the nepotism debate that was swirling in the Bollywood industry at the time. He stated, “I did not say it in response to Jaya ji’s remarks. Whatever she said back then was everywhere on the internet. Everyone was discussing that ‘thaali’ statement. So, I too shared my opinion, but it wasn’t directed at her specifically.”

Shorey went on to admit that he must have been quite upset when he made those posts, acknowledging that some had accused him of having ulterior motives. However, he also reflected that if he were to express the same thoughts today, he would likely do so in a less sarcastic manner.

Reflecting on the four years that have passed since the nationwide lockdown, Shorey and many other stars, including the Ek Tha Tiger actor, felt frustration when Jaya Bachchan criticized the Hindi entertainment industry. Jaya Bachchan had implied that some stars were biting the hand that fed them by speaking negatively about the Bollywood platform that had supported their careers.

Jaya Bachchan had famously stated in Parliament, “Jis thali mai khate ho ussi mai ched karte hai” (They bite the hand that feeds them).” In response to this, the Sonchiriya actor wrote in 2020, “They decorate plates (thaalis) for their kids. We pack our own tiffin by ourselves and go to work.”

Professionally, Ranvir Shorey gained significant attention after his participation in Bigg Boss OTT 3. The controversial show, hosted by Anil Kapoor, saw Shorey frequently clashing with Sana Maknu, who ultimately won the coveted trophy. Although Shorey did not emerge as the winner, his spirits remained high. Shortly after leaving the show, he excitedly announced his next project, Shekhar Home, alongside Kay Kay Menon, which is now available on Jio Cinema.
