BECOMING MRS. RAISINGHANIA – EPISODE 32: SMUDGES AND SMEARS

Riddhima exhaled a sharp breath and stared at the blank wall, thinking of the different possibilities. She pulled out the phone from her pocket and swiped through the moodboards she’d developed the previous night. Over the last hour, she’d tried to implement the several ideas in her head, but she’d disliked the outcomes.

With a frown outlining her lips, she stared at the wall with her arms akimbo. She couldn’t understand what she’d missed in each of the designs she’d worked on. It was how she’d imagined this place to be, after all. When a wave of wind filtered through the wall-length window moments later, she heard the sifting of the key through the main door.

“Here’s more of the paint you’d asked… Wait, what’s wrong?”

She turned around to his and shrugged her shoulders, slowly beginning to slump. She’d decided to finish painting the wall by the end of the weekend, but she was beginning to feel frustrated. She’d spent hours conceptualising the idea, but none of the ideas had seemed right. They hadn’t seemed like they were own.

Riddhima: I don’t know. I think I’ve very little experience to do this on my own. (turning back to the wall) This was a bad idea, Vansh.

He shook his head and stacked the paint can atop the others. Over the last year, he’d noticed how particular his wife was about her designs. There were days when he’d found her sleeping upset due to work and he’d almost wanted to laugh.

However, he knew it was her love for the work that had helped her achieve success so quickly. She’d told him the past week that if things at work favoured her, then she would receive her promotion by the end of the next financial year. He wrapped his hands around from behind and stared at the wall with her. It was not that he understood her work, but he knew her aesthetic sense.

Vansh: What’s wrong with this?

Riddhima (pulling her lip between her teeth): This feels very cold. Like, very uninviting, you know. It’s like, um, when I enter your office, this is the kind of feeling I get. But that’s not how I want the studio to feel.

Vansh: You do realise you’re ridiculing my choices. You’re one of my choices too.

Riddhima (craning her neck over her shoulder): Offo, Vansh, I’m not in the mood for your cheesy lines at the moment. A corporate office is always uninviting, that’s an interior décor rule. But I wanted this wall to be different – something that could spark creativity when someone’s working here.

Vansh: Then, do something that would be the opposite of corporate. You can do whatever inspires you, maybe?

Riddhima stared at the wall thoughtfully, Vansh’s words echoing in her mind. As the words hit her, she realised what she’d missed in all the previous concepts. None of her conceptualisations offered her personal touch. As Vansh moved away from her, she slammed her forehead.

Riddhima: I get what’s wrong here. (turning to him) I’ve to reconceptualise, but you’re right. I should add some personal touch to it, so it inspires me above all when I work here.

Vansh: So, what are you thinking of doing?

Riddhima stood before the paint cans and stared at them, looking for colours that inspired her. As the question hit her ears, she shrugged her shoulders and craned her neck to look at him.

Riddhima: Something fun is what I know as of now. Thanks for giving me the direction, though!

Vansh: So, do I get treated for helping you?

Riddhima (chuckling): What are you, Vansh? A seven-year-old kid, huh? Plus, it’s not like you’ve given me the idea. I’m still the one who needs to think.

Riddhima bent down and picked some of the scarlet paint onto the brush in her hand to examine the shade. When she stood up seconds later, Vansh turned her around and held her against the wall. He pressed the centre of his palm against the wall and looked at her, wanting to convince her of his words.

Vansh: You don’t like my ideas, so that’s your problem. But I need a treat for what I did.

Riddhima (smiling softly): Don’t be a kid, Vansh. Let me finish doing this.

Vansh: I’ve not stopped you. Just agree for…

However, Riddhima pressed the brush against his face and smeared the crimson paint over his face to interrupt him. As the paint stuck to his skin, he looked at her with a wave of surprise whirling within him. She stared at him and laughed, her voice echoing in the emptiness of the studio. She looked back at him again and as he continued staring at her in shock, she couldn’t stop laughing.

Vansh (a few seconds after): YOU! I’m not leaving you.

He picked up another brush from the floor and soaking the pain onto it, he ran behind her to avenge her. Riddhima laughed and ran before him in circles, trying to escape his clutches. Each time she looked back at him, she remembered his expressions and her laughter continued echoing within the studio.

Minutes later, when Vansh couldn’t catch hold of her, he drizzled the paint from the brush onto her and let it stain her clothes. As the cold of the paint hit her skin, she paused and looked at her clothes in shock. She’d only sprawled paint on his face, but he’d stained all her clothes. She looked back at him with furrowed brows and huffed in anger.

Riddhima: Vansh Raisinghania, you’ve done very wrong. Now, you’d see my A-game.

Vansh: Arey, jao jao. Hum darte hain kya

Riddhima picked up a can of paint from behind her and splashed it on him as he started speaking. She began laughing as the teal paint started dripping from him and he blinked his eyes to avoid the paint from getting into his eyes. His hands had stopped midway in the air, and he looked at her in disbelief.

He couldn’t understand how his wife had stopped conceptualising ideas for the wall and instead began painting him. Although, he wasn’t going to leave the situation at this. She’d now begun a war and he wasn’t going to back away. He shook her head at him challengingly and walked toward her to pick up another can.

Riddhima ran away from him and as she continued laughing, Vansh splashed a can of white paint on her and the sound of laugh in the studio was quickly replaced by his. She stared at him for a moment before laughing with him.

Vansh: You look like a ghost…

Riddhima splashed more paint on him and as the yellow began dripping from his shoulders, she saw the paints mixing swiftly. In the spur of that moment, she knew what she wanted to do on the wall. As she stared at the wall though, Vansh splashed more paint on her and the two of them began splashing colours from different cans onto each other.

Several moments later, when Riddhima tried running away from Vansh, she slipped on the paint and fell upon the puddles of paint. She did not hurt herself against the marble due to the layers of the paint, but when Vansh neared her worriedly, she pulled him next to herself and drenched him further in the paint.

Riddhima (laughing): I don’t remember the last time I laughed so much.

Vansh looked at her and rolled over on the paint to lessen the space between them. With different shades of paint smeared all over her, she looked different but beautiful. He stared at her for a moment as she laughed loudly, letting the paint unravel from her lips to her neck. He couldn’t stop seeing how beautiful she looked.

He raised his hand and moved the strands of hair from her face, the different shades of paint from her face quickly covering his fingertips. He slowly moved his finger on her face, feeling the contours of her face below the paint. She looked absolutely magical. He stared at her for another moment and as she looked at him with a smile sprawled on her lips, he couldn’t stop feeling the way his emotions fulfilled him.

Vansh: I’d do everything to keep you this happy, Riddhima. Literally.

Riddhima (smiling softly): Thank you, Vansh!
