Renowned for his portrayal of Manmohan Tiwari in the beloved show ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai,’ Rohitashv Gour has carved a distinct niche in both Television and Bollywood. His impeccable comedic timing has solidified his status as a versatile and talented actor within the entertainment realm. Gour recently made a striking appearance in Rajkumar Hirani’s movie ‘Dunki,’ embodying the character of a cunning Visa Agent. In an intriguing revelation, he unfolds the captivating story behind landing this role.
Reflecting on his involvement in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Rohitashv Gour shared, “It’s incredible how this opportunity swiftly unfolded, surprising me with its significance. It all transpired within a single day. While shooting for ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’ in Naigaon, unexpectedly, I received news of a week-long hiatus. Usually stationed near the set due to the commute, I decided to head home to Goregaon during this break to spend time with my family.”
He continued, “En route, I received a call from Rajkumar Hirani Ji inquiring about my location. Upon learning I was en route home, he urged me to head directly to Goregaon’s Filmcity without further explanation. Upon arrival, I was awestruck to find a bustling set teeming with numerous individuals. Mr. Hirani revealed they were filming a scene featuring a distinguished theatre artist from Punjab who, unfortunately, couldn’t make it. It was the inaugural shoot day, and Mr. Hirani, determined not to halt proceedings, thought of me due to our past collaborations. He promptly offered me the role of Laltu, a deceptive Punjabi visa agent, in his film ‘Dunki.’ Enthused, I embraced the impactful character, and after a briefing, I practiced the Punjabi accent. Post the shoot, Rajkumar Ji graciously sent a large bouquet to express his appreciation—a heartfelt gesture.”
Delving into his connection with Rajkumar Hirani, Gour reminisced, “My initial encounter with him dates back to 1997 when I auditioned for one of his DD1 shows, which unfortunately didn’t materialize. Yet, Rajkumar assured me of future opportunities, and ‘Dunki’ stands testament to that promise. We previously collaborated on his acclaimed anthology series ‘The Bestsellers,’ where I played a pivotal role. Our bond has remained unwavering. The day of shooting for ‘Dunki’ was delightful; I was introduced to Abhijat Joshi, the film’s writer, and Taapsee Pannu. Taapsee’s recognition from ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai’ was a delightful surprise. Landing a role in such a significant film happened unexpectedly, unfolding swiftly—a truly exhilarating experience.”
In summary, Rohitashv Gour’s journey from the sitcom realm to Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ stands as a testament to both his versatility as an actor and the unpredictability of serendipitous opportunities in the entertainment industry.
