I was initially thinking of writing this one after 3-4 days due to my busy schedule, but your comments made me so happy that I decided to give you this episode as a treat! Hope you like it!
Guys! I mean, the SILENT READERS, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COMMENT! Even if you don’t like. “Err.. Ragini beta.. Actually.. We.. We want to ask you something..”
“Yes Ariba bi! What happened?”
“Wo.. Actually.. We.. We.. You..”
“Bi?? What happened?” Ragini asked, calmly.
Ariba bi looked at Laksh and Mamu until she blurted,
“The weather is so good! Isn’t it?”
Laksh and Mamu facepalmed themselves.
“Huh? Oh yes! You know, I’m here… As in Mumbai, for the first time!” Ragini spoke excitedly.
Laksh knew that there wasn’t any point in staying there anymore. He knew Ariba bi and mamu won’t ask anything, and she won’t give a straight answer to him, if he himself asked. He stood up and went to his room, which Ragini deliberately ignored.
After an hour, everybody went down. Ragini went to her room, Mamu had some work so he left, and Ariba bi proceeded towards the kitchen to prepare the dinner.
“Ariba bi! Why didn’t you ask her?”
“Laksh baba, I tried! But.. You know na.. She’s a tigress! She would have eaten me raw if I asked her! I’m afraid of her! Did you forget what she did with you? How she blackmailed you to stay here? Ya Allah! No no no! I have a daughter! I’ve to get her married! I don’t want to die so soon! She..”
“Okay okay! Let it be! Just.. Leave it!”
The clock struck 2:45 when Laksh felt restless. He had always been a deep sleeper. His friends called him panda because of that. But tonight he wasn’t getting sleep. He felt as if someone close to him needs him.
2:52. Laksh got up and decided to go to the terrace. Maybe the soft night breeze would ease him. His decision seemed to be appropriate to him as he felt the breeze once he entered the terrace area. He walked further. Feeling much better. His steps stopped at seeing a silhouette. Is it a silhouette or? He slowly walked towards it.
“What are you doing here so late?” Laksh asked astonishingly.
“Uhm.. I.. I was just.. Nothing.. Just.. No.. Nothing!”
“Ms. Runaway, are you crying?”
Ragini turned to the other side, to prevent him knowing the obvious.
“N.. No! I.. I’m not.. Crying! Why will.. Why will I cry? I make people cry!” Ragini tried to compose herself.
“Well, that’s true! You make people cry! That’s why I’m surprised that there exists someone who can make you cry!”
Ragini laughed a little but that didn’t stop the tears from falling down, and this was not unnoticed by Laksh.
“Hmm! So this is how trouble cries!”
“Mr. Future! Do you want me to convert you into history?”
“I bet you can’t! Atleast not like this!” Laksh mocked while pointing at her tears.
Ragini looked at him angrily and after a while started laughing heartily. Laksh too joined her. She looked different right now. Vulnerable. Innocent. Beautiful. Laksh smiled.
“So, what happened? Why were you crying?”
“No.. Nothing.. Just..”
“Don’t lie! I know I’ve been a pighead since yesterday, but I’m not that bad! You can share it with me. Moreover, I’m a really good listener!”
Ragini smiled as tears again started brimming. “I was.. Just thinking.. What is happening! I had to be in Delhi, infact, right now I would have been in New York, but here I am! At a stranger’s place! Forcefully! Against your wish! All I had planned.. Just..”
Ragini choked at her words. She knew she couldn’t pretend to be that strong Ragini Sharma anymore. Atleast for now. Tears flowed down her cheeks as she stared at the moon.
“You know, life is very unpredictable! At one time, it will give you everything, every happiness! A second later, you’ll be struggling to get that happiness back!” Ragini continued as Laksh patiently listened to her.
“Do you regret running away from your..”
“No! Not at all! I’m very proud of myself instead! I would have regretted my whole life had I married that moron!”
“Hmm! Strangest! By the way, yesterday you were saying that I kidnapped you. You also called some Veeru’s man. Why? I mean..”
“That was a misunderstanding!”
“I know. I mean.. Who’s Veeru? Sholay?”
“Hell no!” Ragini laughed hard at that until she was out of breath. “No no! This Veeru is a useless moron! Unlike Sholay’s! God!”
“But who is he?”
“My so-called ex-fiancé! Virender Chaddha!”
“But why will he kidnap you?”
“Mr. Curious Case of Future Maheshwari, I think it’s enough for today! I’m feeling very sleepy! By the way, when will your phone get repaired?”
“It’s done. I’ll pick it tomorrow!”
“Hm! Anyway, goodnight!”
“G’night!” Laksh smiled.
•••
*Splash*
“What the f**k! How dare you?”
“Morning Mr. Future!”
“f**k off!”
“Wake up! And go fetch your phone!”
“It’s my phone! I’ll go as per my wishes!”
“Do you want me to cut this into pieces?” Ragini held a green shirt and pointed a scissor to it.
“How dare you?”
“I’m very daring!”
“You..”
“Now you’re awake, anyway! Fetch your phone as soon as possible and come take this shirt from me!”
“Why are you so bothered about my phone?”
“I’ve to make a call!”
“You can use Ariba bi’s phone for that!”
“International call!” Ragini retorted and walked out of his room, with the shirt.
•••
“Here! Call whomsoever you want and just go with him or her!” Laksh exclaimed as he handed his phone to Ragini.
Like a small child, she immediately grabbed the phone and dialled a number which was stamped in her mind and on her fingers. Excited would be the most underrated word for what Ragini was right now. But soon, the excitement over her face turned into disappointment as the number could not be reached. Sadly, she handed his phone back to him.
“What happened?”
“It’s still unreachable!” Ragini replied sadly.
“Still?” Laksh asked questioningly.
“Hm. From the past two months, I’m not able to contact him. He’d informed me, though. He had told me that he would be unavailable for a few days. And now..”
“He’s your?”
“Everything! My life, my love! My Sanskar!”
