Sanaya Irani’s Surprising Journey to ‘Fanaa’: How She Almost Turned Down a Role with Aamir Khan and Kajol

Sanaya Irani, a household name in the television industry, has made her mark with memorable roles in shows like Miley Jab Hum Tum and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. However, many fans may not know that she also played a role in the blockbuster movie Fanaa, alongside Aamir Khan and Kajol. What’s even more surprising is that Sanaya almost passed up the opportunity—not once, but twice!

In a candid interview with Hautterfly, Sanaya shared the behind-the-scenes story of how she joined Fanaa. Initially, she wasn’t interested in the offer from Yash Raj Films. “I got a call from Yash Raj Films saying they were casting for a movie with Aamir Khan and Kajol, and they wanted me to play a friend’s role. I told them, ‘No, no, I’m only interested in lead roles,’” she revealed.

Despite her initial hesitation, the production team reached out to her again, emphasizing the significance of the film and the importance of her part. Sanaya admitted, “I really admire Aamir and Kajol, so I thought it would be a good experience and agreed.”

Sanaya’s casual attitude didn’t end with the role offer. She confessed that she missed the first script reading session. Living in South Mumbai, far from the meeting location in Juhu, she decided to skip the session altogether. When the production team called to check on her whereabouts, she casually responded that she was sleeping and didn’t plan on attending.

To her surprise, she later found out that director Kunal Kohli had overheard her excuse. Rather than being upset, Kohli was intrigued by her nonchalance and was determined to have her on board.

Despite her unexpected start in Bollywood, Sanaya Irani’s TV career has flourished. She has been part of several hit shows, including Rangrasiya and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. Though her role in Fanaa was a small one, it stands as a unique part of her acting journey, proving that even missed opportunities can turn into lasting memories.

Sanaya’s story is a reminder that sometimes the roles we almost decline can become unexpected highlights in our careers.
