Narayan Murthy’s recent call for young Indians to embrace a 70-hour workweek sparked a heated debate among working professionals. Shark Tank India 3’s Namita Thapar joined the conversation, sharing glimpses of her Halloween party on social media and raising pertinent questions about the impact of extensive work hours.
In a note tagging fellow Shark Anupam Mittal, Namita expressed, “Halloween shenanigans are always fun, but if we listen to you & other experts about working 70 hours/week, will we ever find time for family, creating precious memories & most importantly for mental health?”
Anupam Mittal responded, “Better to embrace and find work-life harmony than to continue to be torn between work-life balance.”
Namita offered a befitting reply, emphasizing the potential toll on physical and mental health due to extended work hours. She stated, “How can we, as leaders or companies, ever enforce such demanding schedules? We must help each employee be ‘the best version of themselves.'”
The discussion has sparked reactions from netizens, reflecting diverse perspectives on the challenging dynamics of modern work culture. Share your thoughts on balancing work and personal life in the comments below.

Currently learning about this. I work at an accounting office which works with hundreds of businesses. The work ranges from small tasks that can take 15-20 mins (half of the day) to tasks that require more concentration and time (1-2 hours). Initially all the tasks were fun, while the harder ones challenged you, the easier tasks gave a sense of accomplishment as you felt like you got a lot done. After doing this for two years, it gets difficult mentally. I’m in my fourth year currently and there are days when even a small simple task takes me over the edge and i either act in anger or have tears as I am emotionally drained. I don’t even have the patience for the harder tasks and it takes me days to get through even half of it, major reason being I don’t even want to open or begin the task, the small tasks are now just an inconvenience and I get anger quickly when others also ask me to do their simple tasks (before I helped many people because I could compete it faster than them, now I just don’t want to do it). I am working long hours and they feel like days in one day. We work for a certain number of hours and the work we are given takes more time then what we have. The stress if having work left uncompleted takes a big toll as we take that stress home. I now try to complete my small tasks at home so I can finish other tasks at work. And the next day we have the same thing again, many days we have additional work we need to do, meet clients, meeting etc. but never is the workload reduced, so what happenes we take more work and stress home, I hate this. SO no a 70 hour workweek is not good or a good solution. FYI I work around at least 60 hours a week, most times more.
