Kartikeya engaged in a fierce battle with the asur Kronch, who taunted him by claiming superiority due to his age. Despite Kartikeya’s initial attacks, Kronch defended himself confidently, asserting that he could counter all of Kartikeya’s weapons and threatening to kill him. As the fight intensified, Kronch attempted to overpower Kartikeya by transforming into a massive hill, symbolizing his formidable strength.
In response, Devi Parvati summoned Pilani, a divine protector, to shield her son. With Pilani’s assistance, Kartikeya gained the upper hand and urged Kronch to surrender. However, Kronch refused, choosing to fight until his demise. Ultimately, Kartikeya’s prowess prevailed, and he struck Kronch down. This act purified Kronch of his sins, reverting him to his original form. In gratitude and recognition of Kartikeya’s righteousness, Kronch praised him and chanted “Har Har Mahadev.”
Following the battle, Sage Agastya, with the blessings of Mahadev and Devi Parvati, initiated the creation of the sacred Kaveri River. He placed consecrated ice cubes on the ground, which melted to form the river, bringing life and prosperity to the land. This event underscored the divine intervention and the significance of the Kaveri River in Hindu mythology.
However, the asur Jimrasur, enraged by Kronch’s defeat and the emergence of the Kaveri River, sought vengeance against Kartikeya. He attacked Sage Agastya, attempting to thwart the river’s creation. Despite his efforts, the divine powers protected the sage, and Jimrasur was swept away by the newly formed river. Mahadev then declared that the hill (formerly Kronch) and the Kaveri River would stand as eternal testaments to Kartikeya’s valor and Sage Agastya’s devotion.
