Shubhangi Atre fondly recalls Janmashtami celebrations in her hometown
Shubhangi Atre, renowned for her role as Angoori Bhabhi in the popular television show ‘Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai,’ recently took a delightful trip down memory lane as she reminisced about her childhood days in her hometown and the cherished celebrations of Janmashtami.
Janmashtami, an annual Hindu festival commemorating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu, holds great significance in Hindu culture. It falls on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in the months of Shravana Masa or Bhadrapada Masa. This year, Janmashtami is observed on September 6 and September 7.
Talking about her Janmashtami memories in a recent interview, Shubhangi Atre shared, “I recall how all the temples in Madhya Pradesh would be splendidly decorated during this period, and the matki-tod ceremony was truly mesmerizing to witness.”
She continued, “My father used to accompany me to the renowned Laxminarayan Temple, also known as the Birla Temple or Krishna Parnami Temple, where the festivities unfolded on a grand scale as we sought blessings. Back at home, we would paint baby footprints on the floor, symbolizing the strides of Baal Krishna.”
Describing the culinary delights of the occasion, she added, “We would stay awake until midnight for the aarti, savoring homemade delicacies such as Makhan mishri, lauki ki barfi, makhana kheer, and more, lovingly prepared by my mother and Dadi (grandmother), and then offered to Lord Krishna.”
Shubhangi Atre nostalgically expressed her longing to relive those cherished experiences, concluding with a heartfelt wish for Lord Krishna to bestow joy and serenity upon everyone’s lives during this Janmashtami.
