“Angel !!” The sudden intrusion startled both of them causing Ragini to jump in her seat. Wide eyed she stared at the all-too-familiar figure who was currently staring at her with a look that clearly meant trouble.
“Busted!!” Ragini mumbled inaudibly under her breath staring at him sheepishly.
“What. Are. You. Exactly. Doing. Here?” Each word drawled out of his mouth clearly, indicating how serious he was.
Oh no!! Oh no!! What to say? What to say? I can’t even lie. He would catch me in a second.
She panicked, screaming inside her mind to find a reasonable lie.
“A-actually I-”
“Voh. Actually beta, Ragini bitiya was getting bored and she didnt want to disturb you. I saw her here and we started talking randomly. Nothing to worry.” Ragini internally sighed in relief, thanking Ramu Kaka with her eyes who in return gave her a reassuring nod. Sanskar looked at the pair skeptically before reaching out to his skittish fiancee who squeaked cutely when he picked her up in a second.
“Next time don’t go anywhere without me yeah?” His tone was soft yet hard enough for her to know that her overprotective fiancee wouldn’t take no for an answer so she just nodded in response. Slumping in his arms, her eyelids drooped down with her head resting on his toned chest drained out from all the recent happenings.
“Sleep well My Angel.” were the last words she heard before succumbing into darkness.
****/////
Ragini gulped hard staring at the seething man before her who was breathing heavily at the moment to suppress his inflating anger.
“May be it wasn’t such a good idea.” She closed her eyes tightly at the thought.
“What did I told you about stepping in the kitchen bunny?”
“Idiot!! Idiot!! Of course, that wasn’t a good idea.”
“U-Umm t-to n-not to g-go there?” She answered meekly but somehow it came out as a question. Ragini looked at him to gauze out his reaction but the look he gave her had her squirming in her place. He was scaring her.
“And what did you do?”
Ragini shook her head in response hanging her head low to avoid his gaze. She is yanked into a hard chest before she had the time to react, causing a gasp to escape her lips as she squirms trying to get out of his strong hold. He hold her chin in a tight grip making her look into his dark charcoal orbs.
“Move out. I dare you.” His harsh tone had her freezed in her place challenging her to make a single movement.
“Since you didn’t bother listening to me as a punishment you are going to be with me 24×7 and I meant it. Try that stunt again and I’ll chain you to the bed.” True to his words he didn’t left her alone even for a minute. It felt like she was glued to his side. Before, he atleast let her be in the mansion on her own for sometime. She had talked to a doctor about Sanskar’s condition. He is the same man who treated Sanskar after his accident. That man is a well known therapist and Ramu Kaka assured her that he is a family acquaintance from years so no sensitive information would be leaked.
“Kaka told me everything I needed to know so I wouldn’t beat around the bush. See Ms. Suryavanshi, we need to break Mr. Maheshwari’s perception and currently you’re the only one that matters to him the most.”
The doctor informed patiently to which Ragini nodded her head in agreement
“S-so I should talk to Cupy about it right? A-and he would agree with me?” She asked with a hopeful gleam in her eyes to which the man simply shook his head in negative.
“It’s not that easy Ms. You see it’s physchological. We can’t make the patient better until he himself wants to be.”
“So what should we do?” She asked confused with a frown on her face.
“First, we have to make him understand that people other than him are capable to protect you. Mr. Maheshwari at the moment has an unhealthy obsession with you and we’ll help him get over it.” Ragini awkwardly looked away from him at the statement.
“Our first step would be to make him believe that you doesn’t need a constant supervision.” Heeding to the idea, Ragini tried to do a few things on her own. She made breakfast for both of them with the the thought that he would be happy to know that she didn’t get hurt in the process. A little freedom is better than nothing right? But to her utter dismay it ended up her being glued to him the whole day.
****/////
Days passed by in a blur and nothing seemed to work. Though Ragini was trying to stay strong but her resolve was crumbling with each passing day. She even ended up chained for a day.
“You have to leave him.”
“No.”
“It’s the only option left.”
“Listen doctor, no matter what I’m not leaving my Cupy. I love him and there is no way I’m going to leave him alone like that. Are you even listening to yourself? ” Her voice rose with each word as she spoke, enraged with the ridiculous suggestion.
“Listen to me first Ms. Suryavanshi. We have tried everything we could. It’s our last resort and I’m not telling you to leave him for forever, just for a few days. It’ll give him some time to rethink his actions and when he would see you safe and sound it will be easier for him to accept that people other than him, like your brother and friends, can also keep you safe. Do it for him Ms. You love him right?”
Ragini didn’t bother to respond lost in her own thoughts. Her mind, a jumble of emotions.
“We don’t have another choice Ragini.” Ramu Kaka left her alone to make the final decision.
*****/////
Stepping inside his mansion, Sanskar swiftly opened the door, not bothered by the loud voice it made when it’s handle bumped against the door.
“Angel where are you?” He had three meetings lined up back to back and it didn’t give him enough time to check on her through the cameras like everyday and he was getting impatient.
No one answered back.
“Angel?”
His voice echoed through the living room, silence greeting him back. The atmosphere was cold and dark, since he didn’t bothered to turn on the lights. But it was very, very, very quiet. He expected a soft tapping of feet on the marbled floor, running down to hug him like always. He soon realized that she must have fallen asleep but the bedroom was void of any presence. Grabbing his cellphone in a haste, he looked at the video footage stunned as he saw her petite figure exiting the house carrying a suitcase with her.
She left me?
No. She cannot.
She can’t leave me.
“She must be here only.” He mumbled to himself, as he knelt down on the smooth, white marbled floor. He looked under the bed and moved his hand all over the sheets to find a single trace of her. He searched slowly for a few minutes but soon his hands were frantically rummaging through each and every corner of their bed.
“She’s not here.” He breathed quietly.
“Angel?”
“Baby?”
“Princess? What game are you playing? Hide and seek? See, this is not funny sweetheart? Please come out.”
“Come out right now bunny. THIS IS NOT FUNNY!!” He finally shouted. Frustration began to cloud his mind and he tightly gripped his hair in his palm and began to pull it. He tried searching for her like a person searching his precious jewel.
“Angel ?!! FOR FU*K SAKE I DONT WANT TO PLAY ANYMORE GOD DAMMIT!!!” He shouted again angrily hitting the wall creating a large dent, blood smearing his knuckles. He gritted his teeth, trying to endure the pain.
Screaming in rage, he tried to get up and knocked down a few vases in the process. A few shards flied across the room. Some even got on his foot causing it to bleed but he didn’t care. He sat on the bed with a stoic expression. A big photo frame lying on his lap as he gently caressed his Angel’s smiling face with his thumb while a tear leaked down his left eye.
Gasping in shock, he stared wide eyed in front of him when he felt a familiar touch gently wiping his tears. Not wasting a single second, Sanskar pulled her onto his lap and hugged her so tight, it was getting difficult for her to breathe.
“You left me!!!” He complained like a five year old kid resting his head on her lap soothingly as she ran a hand through his hair. Softly pecking his forehead, she made him sit on the bed and carefully bandaged his wounded foot.
“W-why did you left me Angel? A-am I not good enough? D-did I do something wrong? Just forgive me once please? I can’t live without you. I-I promise I’ll cherish you my whole life. I- ”
“Hey, hey!! Ssh.” She spoke cupping his face.
“You did nothing wrong buddy and I’m not leaving you I promise. Together and forever right?”
“Together and forever.” He happily joined their pinky fingers, smiling through his tears.
“P-please visit the therapist buddy.” Ragini whispered lowly, a bit scared of his reaction.
She sighed, not getting back any response. Taking his hand in hers, she rubbed soothing circles on the back of his hand. “I know everything about your past Sanskar.” Sanskar looked at her shocked. It was the first time she addressed him by his name. She needed him to see she was damn serious.
“Listen to me carefully.” She held his chin to look him straight in the eye. “Your mother’s death was not your fault Sanskar. Trust me. We can’t control what fate has in store for us.” She paused for a brief second then continued, “You didn’t hurt your loved ones Cupy. You’re letting your mind think you do when you did not. Before you can live freely, a part of you has to die. You have to let go of what could have been, how you should have acted and what you wish you have said differently. You have to accept that you can’t change the past experiences, opinions of others at that moment in time or outcomes from their choices or yours. When you will finally recognise the meaning of this words you will understand that none of that was your fault and hurting yourself because you accidentally hurt your loved ones is not reasonable. From this point, you will be free from your past demons. I’m not forcing you. Take your time but always remember one thing. Whenever you need someone, just call me once and I would be there, holding your hand no matter what.”
*****/////
It wasn’t easy for him to open up but he needed it. With a deep breath, he told the therapist everything he needs to know with a straight face and all the time she sat beside him patiently, holding hands, encouraging him to face the demons of his past.
“Can you tell me when did the uncharacteristic feelings or urges if I say, started exactly?”
“I don’t know. I was protective of her from the very start but I didn’t want to lock her inside back then.”
“When was the last time you cried Mr Maheshwari? No need to be awkward. It’s completely natural for a human being to feel pain.” The doctor reassured while writing something on the paper.
“Last night when I thought Angel left me.”
“When was the last time you cried before the your fiancee stepped into your life?” The doctor patiently rephrased his question.
Umm.. When was the last time I cried? Samskar racked through his head for an answer but couldn’t find one.
“Acceptance is the first step to get over one’s pain Mr. Maheshwari. You didn’t cry because you didn’t want to accept your mother’s death and that is the root cause. Thank you Mr. Maheshwari. It’s time to end our sitting for the day. I’ll see you in the next one.”
Six months passed away in a blur and the couple couldn’t be more happy. Sanskar finally got out of his therapy sessions and Ragini couldn’t be more proud.
He sighed in content at the feeling of his Angel wrapped up in his arms, with her legs circling his waist and head nuzzling his chest.
“Why didn’t you leave me that day Princess?”
He asked confused.
She moved her head to look up at him and lovingly pecked his cheek.
“You see, when you love someone, you love all of them–the good, the bad, and the ugly. I know the only person that can fix you is yourself but you should know that whether that day comes or not, I’ll be right here and I will love you just the same.” Her smile was so contagious that he could not hold back himself from smiling with the tiny creature in his arms.
“How will I ever repay you?”
“Simple!! Buy me a chocolate ice-cream.” She yelled excited and Sanskar burst out laughing.
“You are something else My to-be-Mrs. Ragini Sanskar Maheshwar.” He whispered shaking his head in amusement, to which she cutely pouted her lips making him kiss her with everything he has.
You can’t just give upon someone because the situation is not ideal. Great relationship are not great because they have no problem. They are great because both people care and love enough about the other person to find a way to make it work.
